A quick update. Yesterday, the entire day I felt almost normal with next to no discomfort at all. I had a similar experience about a month ago. Prior to that, it's been years. Between 9am and 7pm I was at work and needed to urinate once in the morning, once at lunch and once before going home. Normally in that time span I would go 6 or 7 times. It was an amazing feeling to be walking around without the constant sensation of needing to urinate. Today the sensation has returned, but I hope that yesterday is a sign of things to come. I remember what Dr. Wise said, that when you feel good it proves that your body is capable of feeling good. So perhaps there is some light at the end of the tunnel.
Age: 39 | Onset Age: 17 | Symptoms: Constant feeling of needing to urinate felt in the tip of penis. Frequency. Urgency. None of the typical pain associated with CPPS. | Helped By: Valium, Klonopin, and very hot baths, followed by lying down still/doing relaxation. Also made almost symptom free for a few seconds following a bowel movement. | Worsened By: stress, anxiety, skipping meals, lack of sleep, extended sitting, coffee, alcohol. NO other pain or discomfort although after ejaculation symptoms will usually get worse unless I lie still for 20 minutes or so. | Other comments: Symptoms began at the moment of ejaculation, disappeared after a few months and then returned a few months later and have not gone away since.

I hadn't heard that from Dr. Wise, but I've heard that the body wants to heal itself. I like the thought that if you feel good then your body is capable of feeling good.

Hey CM23 that's great! I spoke to Dr. Wise yesterday and he told me at one point he was urinating every fifteen minutes and that he had just returned from somewhere and it was a fifteen hour flight, he had to use the bathroom only once. And he said even a half hour of feeling good is a good sign. I have a question for you, what all areas are you treating (what positions internally)? Anything externally besides stretching? When I go internally and hit 11it & 1 I recreate my symptoms only for a second at about a 3 and it immediately passes so I go up to around 20 but I don't really feel the same as that second at a 3. I guess next treatment I'm going to raise the numbers but I've been scared of flaring up. Also are you just going in the set length of the wand about finger length? Glad your seeing some positive results!

Hi Gary. Since my day of almost no symptoms it has been up and down. Sometimes feeling decent and sometimes not at all. I haven't had the no symptoms at all feeling again yet.

Internally I treat either side of the prostate high up at 11 and 1. I then stay at that level and go out a centimetre and then another centimetre. The spots at 11 and 1 replicate my symptoms exactly. I then pull the want out slightly and repeat. These spots hardly replicate my symptoms at all.

Yes, I don't go beyond the stop on the wand. I have worried some about 'what if there are spots higher up that aren't being reached?', but Tim set it at this level and since I can still replicate my symptoms at this level I guess I still have more work to do. If I get to the point where these points no longer cause any discomfort at all yet I still have symptoms, maybe that means that I need to work further up. Hopefully that's not what happens.

I do the stretching and then hit the psoas and abs with the Theracane.

On days when I feel very bad, I consider trying a round of various medicines that have proved helpful for some people: Tofranil, Xatral, Baclofen, Flexeril, Lyrica etc. But then when the sensation becomes more bearable I decide that I want to see if I can get over this without experimenting with meds. (If I knew that a certain medication would eliminate my symptoms I would be at the pharmacy now. But we all know that it's not that black and white).

Also in the back of my head I sometimes worry that I have done the Wise-Anderson Protocol for nearly 7 months and I am not recovered - so what if I do this for 2 years and still feel like I do now? Will I be able to handle the disappointment? But then that's not especially productive so I try to just focus on the day to day. Certainly when it's feeling really good it's easy to think that all my hard work has paid off and I am starting to get better.

I'll keep you updated.

Re: No pain - just constant sensation of needing to urinate

Another quick update - I've been doing the protocol religiously for 7 months now.

I still find myself thinking during relaxation. I guess that takes time to master.

Internal trigger points that I could apply a pressure of 1 on at the beginning (causing me extreme discomfort) now take a pressure of 37 or 40 to elicit the same sensation.

There are days and moments within days where I feel very good and then suddenly and without warning I feel very bad. I had two days in a row last week where I felt only a twinge of discomfort. Then out of nowhere the sensation appeared again and has been intense for the past 3 days.

I still haven't committed to experimenting with any more medications. Every time I feel better, I think I am on the right track and medications are not the right way (I would however take them in a second if they were guaranteed to provide relief), then when I feel bad again I wonder if everything that I have been doing is helping or not.

As usual when my energy levels are high and I am feeling strong, my symptoms tend to be less. When I feel tired and worn down, the intensity increases dramatically.

I'll keep you updated.

7 months and you're now having days where you feel very good is about right for most men. Take heart and continue without expectation.

I slowly improved for years too.

Thanks webslave. When I think that I am 33 and I have had constant symptoms for 16 years, it seems very reasonable that it could take a few years to correct itself. But when it's extremely uncomfortable, sometimes it's difficult to hold that same point of view and I find myself wondering if I have made any progress at all. Of course when it is feeling good, then I am convinced that the protocol is paying off. So it's a bit of a mind game.

Anyway, I will carry on as this is the only thing in 16 years that makes sense to me - and I have heard it all and tried just about everything out there.

Well after 8 months of the protocol, I don't have anything amazing to update. There are days and moments when I feel good and other times when I feel pretty bad. As long as I control my environment exactly - get enough sleep, take hot baths and lie down often, exercise etc. the symptoms don't get too out of control. But it doesn't take much for the symptoms to become intense for days. I had three small glasses of wine 5 days ago. After about an hour of immediate relief that often comes with alcohol, I have been in pretty serious discomfort for 5 days, which is disheartening. At the same time, I have to remember that there have been days in the past month where I have felt pretty good.

I haven't tried any meds since I started the protocol. Not big on side effects.

On the internal trigger points I can get up to between 30 and 40 in order to replicate my symptoms. That was at about 1 when I first started.

I'll continue and keep you updated.

You've created the situation in which the nerves can slowly heal, by removing trigger points and keeping the pelvic muscles relaxed. Now it's a matter of time to reverse the allodynia and windup.

Hey CMT23,
I hear you friend! I'm 7 months into the protocol, and I'm doing *better* but not *cured*. I will admit that I feel like I'm having more good days than bad, and my bad days are...different...now.
7 months ago, when I had bad days, I would be in incredible pain and frequency. It was all I could think about. It was *paralyzing* in it's severity. Now when I have bad days..it's usually simple frequency and not really an issue of pain. However I am still struggling with one very weird tangent to my symptoms...and that's insomnia. And not regular insomnia, either. I'll explain.

When things were at their worst for me, I had trouble both eating and sleeping. I lost 10-15 lbs. Some nights I slept only 90 minutes or two hours. It was literally torture on my body. Well as my symptoms slowly got better with the Wise-Anderson Protocol, my appetite (and my 10 lbs) returned, and sleeping *sorta* improved. On 90 percent of the nights now, I can fall asleep within 20 minutes. But for the last 5 months straight, I almost always have to wake up to pee at least once...usually about 4-5 hours after I've been sleeping. So I get up to pee (and I still feel very very tired) and return to bed. However, my body simply refuses to go back to sleep. My pelvic symptoms strangely get more severe at this point in bed (often a feeling of needing to go urinate again shortly after getting into bed) and my stomach muscles feel tight, and my stomach itself feels all nervous. The feeling in my stomach is not unlike the feelings I would get when I was a student in high school and I was worried about a big test. All this culminates in an inability to fall back asleep, despite a great feeling of fatigue in my body (and in my eyes. My eyes always feel tired at this point). Sleeping 4-5 hours a night is definately not enough for me, and I'm constantly fatigued as I go about my business during the day. It's awful. I've felt like a zombie for more than 6 months. It's such a strange situation that my body is in at this point. I'm having trouble finding anything online about it or even finding someone who understands. I have no idea if this is a physical problem I'm having or a problem of mental anguish about CPPS.

In terms of my Wise-Anderson Protocol and trigger points and whatnot. I dunno about you, but I'm in a good rhythm with the Wise-Anderson Protocol. I do internal work every Monday and Thursday. I do light external work every day, with a longer external work on the Mondays and Thursdays that I do internal. I do PR every morning and every night. My internal soreness is vastly reduced. I really have very little or no pain when I press on 90% of the areas inside my pelvis. I've stopped pressing directly on the 12 o'clock position (partly on webslave's advice) and I've found that I feel MUCH better now that I don't do that. I think that was actually making my prostate painful and sore so I've stopped that practice all together.

I'm thankful that I can eat normally...I just wish I could find a way to sleep normally. I used to be able to sleep 12 hours straight, even with CPPS. I never had to get up to pee in the middle of the night until I had my major flare in September. My life hasn't been the same since. :62_58_40:
Age: 35 Onset Age: 31
Symptoms: An almost constant feeling of the need to urinate all the time. Pain in the penis, at the tip, and "behind" the penis inside the pelvis. Also urethral pain after ejaculation. No rectal pain or symptoms at all.
Helped By: Hot baths, Dr. Wise's relaxation tapes. Internal trigger point work every two days with the Wise-Anderson Protocol wand.
Worsened By: Ejaculation (changes the pain to a burning sensation most times) Alcohol increases urinary frequency greatly. Falling "off the wagon" and not following the Wise-Anderson Protocol protocol.

"I almost always have to wake up to pee at least once...usually about 4-5 hours after I've been sleeping."

Almost the same as me, but I usually fall asleep soon after if its not daylight already. For example today I went to bad around 1:40 and fell immediately asleep as I was really tired. The clock woke me up at 6:45 for work and the usual urge to urinate came right after although with little output. I might sleep for 1-2 hours around 6:00pm after work but that would made me sleep late at night again.
Sometimes its impossible to avoid this "nap" as I feel very very tired like you say.

Logically we could cope much better with our symptoms with the proper sleep amount and quality
Onset Age:26 | It was probably due to Upper Cervical Instability and a connective tissue disorder like EDS

Yoink, I've had the strange uncomfortable-in-body feeling disturbing sleep too. There's actually a medical word for it, just can't remember it. In my case it's usually some element of my diet that I have to discover by trial and error. Caffeine was one cause, even if I'd only had it the morning before.

To help with sleep, play Jeffrey Thompson music. Seriously. I challenge you to stay awake during that. :-D

Check your meds some meds will give you insomnia (audit them for it in google). Take no caffeine in your diet at all. Starbucks certainly NO it is far too high in caffeine. Even if I take a Starbucks in the morning I am hyped for like 20 hours - so even if they want to know my name I try to stay away. Alcohol is bad also avoid it.

Keep your exercise up daily - very important to a good nights sleep. Walk walk walk - get out the car as much as possible and walk over driving if it is possible.

If you are lying in bed and just can't sleep and an hour passes still no joy - STOP - GET UP - forget the time and go and do something. Do house housework...anything un-stimulating but enough to keep you out of a sleep state. Then when you feel you are falling down into sleep and ready go back to sleep but wake up at your normal time to protect your next nights sleep. Okay you will be tired next day but half a good nights sleep is way better than a full night of tossing and turning all night long and then risking oversleeping your natural waking time.

The thing is these insomnia nights, which everyone gets, are bad for chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome via stress and losing that relaxation which calms down the nervous system and relaxes spasms. Parts of sleep are kinda like deep meditation really. If you can't get your freebie relaxation it would be difficult to control chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome I would think.

Yes white noise or someone talking rubbish on your ipod is good to knock you out. :)

Thanks webslave. I hope that you are right. I have to admit that I was hoping that after 8 months I would be feeling much better all the time. I've basically felt pretty bad for the past 10 or 11 days. That's hard to take when I spend so much time on the protocol. Then again, it's 17 years of symptoms vs just 8 months of protocol if you want to look at the big picture. I hurt my back slightly and haven't been able to exercise. That seems to contribute to the flare. Anyway, it is very frustrating, but nothing I can do, but keep at it and see what happens. Every time it feels really bad, I start wondering about experimenting with medications, but I have tried so many without luck and I just hate the side effects.

Webslave, is Uroxatral worth trying even though the size of my prostate is normal? I took one pill in the morning a year ago and could barely get out of bed I was so dizzy and tired. Apparently that passes as you continue to take the meds and I am considering taking it at night with the hope that that side effect wears off by the morning.

It's amazing how it can go from feeling pretty okay to horrible so quickly. That of course adds to the mental torment - because I know even when I am feeling okay, at any time, that can change. And then I have no idea for how long it will be so uncomfortable. At least now if I really can't sleep I take Clonazapam. But that's the last thing I want to be hooked on.

Yoink, it sounds like you are on track. I do similar to you, 30 minutes relaxation 2x day (I manage that about 80% of the time), stretching 2x day, and internal 3x week. The only thing that I can say has definitely changed is the pressure that it takes to replicate my symptoms. As I have said, when I started the internal work, just 1 at a level high up to the left and right of the prostate was enough to send me through the roof. Now it takes 30 or 40 to elicit that same sensation. So I am happy that there is proof of a physical change. Now I just want my symptoms to disappear!

I will continue on and continue to update here.

If you try Uroxatral then give it a go for 3 months before deciding it's not helping. Don't drive for the first week while taking it because it can really mess you up for a while.

If you live in Bangkok, I wonder what sort of diet you are following? Thai food is some of the hottest in the world. That's a big problem if you are trying to get an inflamed area in the bladder or urethra to settle.
