discharge from a Sitz bath? any experience with this?
Has anyone experienced this? I use a sitz bath about 3 times a day (the one that goes in the toilet). It helps symptoms, but I had a question. Most of the time when I do it I have a feeling like I have to defecate (like I need to push), and a discharge comes out of my anus. Sometimes it is white like semen, sometimes it is a bit darker (brown). Does that mean this is definitely bacterial? I have done rounds of Cipro, Bactrim, and Levaquin. I'm not sure which route to try now: either keep treating it as an infection, or start treating it like a neuromuscular problem (and do the relaxation/stretches).

Nothing to do with bacteria. Do you have diarrhoea or constipation, or IBS? Anyone in your family have Crohn's or ulcerative colitis?
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

No diarrhea, but definitely constipation (a lot of times I have to defecate in the sitz bath, and when I do that same discharge is mixed with my stool). I am not sure if I (or anyone in my family) have IBS, Crohn's, or ulcerative colitis. There are so many routes that I am feeling slightly overwhelmed right now. I have been doing the sitz baths and self prostate massage for about a year now, and I am better than when this thing first started. All symptoms have lessened in that year, but never cured to the point where I feel I can live a normal life (my mental state has suffered considerably).
One thing to note. The pain is more when I sit. Also, if I walk for a considerable amount of time it gets REALLY bad, and then when I do the sitz bath, eventually a lot of discharge comes out (after much straining).

Feanor - When you say "discharge" - is that a mucousy - stringy discharge?
Also - if you are experiencing digestive/ colon issues - seeing a gastroenterologist would be the best thing.

Feanor, have you taken this bowel issue to a doctor yet, and if so, what was the diagnosis?

HI feanor777, just a quick question. How often do you perform prostate massage? DO you get discharge (from penis) each time? I am asking this because I am doing the massage as well once after every 2-3 days and it definitely helps me with my symptoms. I've been doing it now for almost 2 months. But I am bit afraid as I do not know how much is too much. Some doctors have said that do it 3 days a week for one month and then take a break for 1 month. In some pages, I've read that some people do it on a daily basis, sometimes twice a day. Figure it out. Anyway, I never apply such a pressure as uros do and usually I do not have discharge but I can definitely feel liquids moving in my urethra. Most probably it is flushed out with urine when I pee after.
Age: 31 Onset Age: 31 Symptoms: Occasionally fullness feeling in rectum, usually after long sitting on hard surface or after intensive training. This is sometimes accompanied by lower back pain (in the end of tail bone), sometimes clear morning discharge. Diagnosis: Chronic Prostatitis. Helped By: Exercises, stress management. Worsened By: Sitting for prolonged period, stress, intensive exercise. Current Medicaments: Quercetin, Zinc Selenium, Prostamol Uno (Serenoa of repens)! Pumkin seed oil.

The discharge is definitely muscousy. I don't think that it is ulcerative colitis or Crohn's because I have no other symptoms of these two diseases. My symptoms are painful urination, painful ejaculation, that feeling of fullness in the prostate, burning in what I guess is my bladder(?), and occasional constipation (though not severe). Also my sex drive is basically dead which is the worst part for me. I did got to a gastroenterologist, and he wanted me to do a colonoscopy, which I never went through with.
As far as the prostate massage I am doing it once a day at least 4 times a week. I do get discharge sometimes, but when I do it is not as much anymore (as when I first started). I think it may be that the fluids are too deep inside and I need a professional to really reach them.

A colonoscopy may be a good idea if you are having unusual discharges per anus. Either something is going on (?spastic colon), or you are interpreting normal bowel functions as abnormal because of hypervigilance. Worth checking it out.
As for the rest, it sounds like typical CPPS.

Why do you massage the actual gland? Do you have a reason for doing so over working the muscles?
See a doc but my guess is your way way way OTT on the massages of the gland.

Yes, after spending the last few days reading this forum, I realize that I have been going about this the wrong way for the last 2 years. I guess a lot of us have gone through the initial antibiotics/massage nonsense. I am going to the urologist to get some of the drugs that have worked for a lot of people (Elavil), but even more important than that ,I am shopping around for a physical therapist. I have a few options, but some require a referral, which I will get from him. I also have the option of going to Pamela Downey here in Miami who I have read many good things about on this site. I finally feel like I am on the right path thanx to this site!

I sure will! Should be going to a physical therapist in 2 weeks or so. I wouldn't wish this condition on my worst enemy, and I hate the thought that there are probably so many people out there with this and are just living with it without the proper guidance. Thanx for the words of encouragement!
