Anterior Levator Ani Superior

Post by Mike Kavo »

This is the only area I have issues with. Should I concentrate myofascial release of this area alone or should I work on all areas of the Anterior Levator Ani?

Is that according to your own assessment, Mike, or was that from a therapist?

Mine of course webslave you know me lol! ;)

To set minds at ease, I did study all the diagrams and spent a great deal of time palpating all the areas in the Wise-Anderson Protocol book one by one carefully seeking trigger points.

This area is "very" sensitive. When I work other areas I get NO change in symptoms. I tried working other areas and waited the next day to see what happened NOTHING happened to symptoms. This is a slow process and I am just curious not trying to treat myself.

I know I am on this exact area. I did follow anatomy diagrams.

On gentle palpation of this area ALONE pain/sensations shoot to my knees, back of my ass, bladder/prostate fullness, and a sort of like needing to urinate or are urinating sensation thing shoots down the urethra (hard to explain). This pretty much recreates my general symptoms on palpation to much a more intense level.

It does not make symptoms worse only better and gives a bruised feeling thing (like after weight lifting sensation) the next day with pain free windows. Can't seem to make myself worse doing this it will just reset if left alone 3 days or so later.

This sounds weird but the day after palpating this area I can't sense the muscles the same way during relaxation. It is like the muscles have gone quiet. That is what I use relaxation to do so it is pretty weird when I can't do it as they are already quiet. I guess I may have interrupted a very local spasms in a certain area of the muscle.

As I had this more or less go away I am really thinking I had a trigger point(s) going on here that somehow reactivated under stress I highly doubt they ever went away.

So next step yeah I will get a therapist involved but you know me I am too curious not to have a look myself.

To anyone trying this solo let me be clear I studied the Wise-Anderson Protocol book carefully, watched many you tube videos on physio therapy, got some books/articles on myofascial tissue and trigger point theory...and tested a Theracane/palpating away from my pelvis long before I got to it. I also have my wife to help me. I did not randomly shove things up my ass! Please do not do that. :p

The insertions of the anterior levator ani are the culprit for many men, yes, so the fact that you find trigger points there is not unusual. It's the most common site for trpts.

You could concentrate on that area and proceed with caution. Do not neglect the external areas too: lower abdomen, even thighs. Some people have found key trigger points in these areas.

Webslave, what's up with the lower abdomen, when I push on it, its excruciating at times. But I dont know if its trapped gas and hard stool, or trpts... is there any way to tell?

Trpts are discrete, isolated lumps, whereas gas is more diffuse. Hard stool are not, on their own, painful.

I can't necessarily feel any lumps, but when I feel those muscles stretch it feels like sore muscles you know? Like when you hammies or quads are sore and you stretch them it hurts, that's what this is like. I always associated it with gas. It may partly be, but god there is some tension there, and the fact I can feel it in other areas makes me think its all connected.

It's hard to tell what's happening over the interwebs, Brett. See a good therapist and follow the other advice — that should see the situation resolve.
