I am a 33 yr. old newbie and was recently diagnosed with prostatitis. I am also a Canadian living in Japan so my ability to discuss the problem in depth with my urologist is severely limited. The main symptom that led me to a urologist in the first place was the fact that I noticed that my testicles had been moving quite a bit...no pain, just a little uncomfortable and rather strange. She gave me an ultrasound to check for any problems (I thought it might have been some kind of hernia) and found nothing and declared my symptom the result of a bacterial infection. After taking my prescribed antibiotics, the moving testicles problem continued. I also developed more of the typical prostatitus symptoms such as low back pain, frequent urination and dull pain in my testicles. I returned to the urologists office and a new urologist told me I had Prostatitis.
So.... I have been reading over this site and it has been both helpful and frightening. I have also ordered "A headache in the pelvis" and am looking forward to receiving it as it feels like the moving testicles might be caused by some sort of muscle tension/muscle spasm in my lower abdomen.
In any case..I am wondering if anybody else experiences the moving testicles phenomenon as I have never seen any mention of it on any of the websites about prostatitis
Dan,
I'm not sure what happened as my previous reply to this in the muscle forum seems to have disappeared.
Anyway, I have experienced this symptom on and off for a few months.
I discussed this with a few urologists who basically told me it's absolutely normal (even though I described to them how abnormal it felt).
A doctor who believes in the muscle tension theory told me that the cremasteric reflex (which is the movement/ascension of the testicles) is a form of pelvic floor tension.
For myself, I was definitely able to correlate this symptom with the spasm in my rectum. I am able to decrease or stop it with relaxation.
All the best,
Dan
It's a little hard to describe, but it feels like one of my testicles (it varies, but is ususally the left) in slowly rising...like someone is slowly reeling in my epididymus. It rises a bit and then drops, rises a bit and then drops..the movement is quite slow and there is no pain associated with it. it most often happens when I am standing...(often when I am standing talking to someone ) sometimes when I"m walking and never happens when I am sitting. I have recently found that I can also make it happen sometimes by placing my hands on my hips and arching backwards and stretching out my lower stomach muscles if they feel tight.
Other Dan, sorry to hear you have the same symptom but good to know it does seem to be a possible symptom. The first urologist I went to also said testicle movement is normal..and I realize that..but this is a feeling I have never experienced and is different from the normal cold/nervous contractions of the testicles we all experience.
When I was first diagnosed with "prostatitis" in September of 2001, one of the symptoms I desribed to the urologist was that of "crawly balls". This was at a time when all my symptoms were at their peak, with pain being far and away the worst. The odd sensation in the testicles wasn't painful in my case either, simply strange feeling. I would get the feeling that one or the other of them was being "reeled in", as if on a cable. After the initial round of abx, that symptom more or less disappeared, recurring on a very infrequent basis, generally when my remaining symptoms flare up more so than usual.
After being diagnosed by the urologist, I was prescribed a month of Cipro followed by a month of Levaquin. Like many, I experienced a lessening of symptoms but not a cure. I remained on various antibiotics for the better part of a year and a half. The only one that seemed to have helped substantially was Levaquin, although the last couple of times I took it, it's effects seemed diminished.
It's one of the frustrating things about this condition; that while it has never been as painful as it was when first diagnosed, it never goes completely away. In more recent months I have discontinued abx and currently am using a combination of Vioxx, Cardura and ProstaProtek. In addition I use a special IC cushion that helps ease pressure when sitting. In the evening I relax in a hot bath while drinking a cup of Rooibos tea. The tea is supposed to be rich in antioxidants and contains quercetin. I don't know if the tea is helping my chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome symptoms or not, but between that and the bath, I have no trouble falling to sleep at night!
Hi Dan,I know exactly what you mean by moving testicles.I have had the same problem for a year now along with rectal burning and fullness and various other symptoms. When I look my balls are almost swirling around and I get the crawly sensation which is very strange. This also extends to my penis and the skin folds up feeling very unpleasant and my penis gets bigger then smaller. Its so very weird and I was scared that I was the only one experiencing this problem. My uro dissmissed this, saying everything looked fine and it is normal.I just know that what I am experiencing is not and it is so annoying to be told this by ignorant docs.I just wanted you to know you are not alone,Dan.Take care,Glenn
