I have not seen anything on this website regarding Dr. Berceli and TRE. I hope this is the right forum to post it.
I have suffered chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome symptoms for many years. I went to see Dr. Wise in 2007 and it was helpful but only in terms of managing pain. Since then I have studied hundreds of treatments on the topic and tried many. Last November I went to see Dr. Berceli. I predicted his protocol could help me based on my history and self diagnosis.
I have been on the protocol over twice as long as he suggested and I am now seeing some slow but consistent improvement. Previously I was seeing a worsening of the condition.
Has anyone else tried the Berceli protocol for CPPS? Has anyone researched chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome as a disorder of post-trauma?

Re: Berceli Protocol - Trauma Releasing Exercises (Tremors)
Psychological trauma is one of the ways you can develop chronic stress disorders; that's well known and it's in Wise's book. It's also been linked to pelvic pain in a few studies, mainly with females.
I see that Berceli's method involves "shaking". http://traumaprevention.com/2009/12/31/what-is-tre/
Can you explain the method?

Re: Berceli Protocol - Trauma Releasing Exercises (Tremors)
This does seem promising and it does tie in with the 'reseting the nervous system' that might prevent the bladder wall breaking down and causing continued IC symptoms. I would like to look into this but it does seem very 'secretive' in that the only way to learn how to provoke these muscle tremors is to attend one of the workshops. Hopefully soon there will be some info or a video on youtube showing how to achieve these trauma and tension releasing tremors.
Age: 25 Onset: 23. | Symptoms: Burning in urethra, urinary frequency/urgency, 'golf ball' in butt syndrome, muscle tension form pelvis to calves, constipation, IBS, testicular pain/inflam, bladder pain when nearly full, difficulty relaxing muscles (coccygeal, levator ani etc.), pain and muscles tension in anus/perineum. Helped by: quercetin, relaxation, baths, heat packs applied to perineum. Worsened by: Stress, driving, sitting, jogging, caffeine etc.
Re: Berceli Protocol - Trauma Releasing Exercises (Tremors)
The shaking is nothing more than a neurogenic tremor. There are many of ways I am sure to induce a neurogenic tremor. They can be witnessed in many species of animals.

It's really about fatiguing the psoas muscle. Interesting study in itself. Personally, I would just buy the book on Berceli's website....all the excerises are in there. You will develop your own custom protocol anyway once you start.
All the best with your search.

Re: Berceli Protocol - Trauma Releasing Exercises (Tremors)
Thanks,
I really feel this would benefit so much people not only on this site and suffering with chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome but others with other conditions. I can induce certain tremors by sitting with small balls under my hamstrings loosening the trigger points - couldn't believe it - it actually gets the pelvic floor spasming violently at the beginning so I would imagine it released tension to some degree and for me it showed me how tension in certain areas, namely in the legs, had a direct effect on the tension in the pelvic basin. I sit with these balls under me all the time now and I move them around searching for tense spots. Nearly everyday at some time I will induce tremors by doing this. I hope that eventually this will help lessen the overall tension in my body. My psaos was and is still a major factor in this condition of mine. 5 trigger points were found in it at my 1st PT session. I use the Theracane to get in at it now and keep on top of it.

A moderator removed the "Neurogenic tremors" from wikidoc.org. Perhaps it wasn't the best term to define it. I am researching the freeze-flight response and procedural memory.

Re: Berceli Protocol - Trauma Releasing Exercises (Tremors)
I have been doing the Berceli protocol for 6 months now and I can say that it is making a significant difference in my daily pain and tension. I also use the Wise-Anderson protocol, as I was in California in 2007. I think the Wise-Anderson protocol has increased the effectiveness of the TRE. Considering I have suffered for 17 years, 6 months is a short period of time.
Re: Berceli Protocol - Trauma Releasing Exercises (Tremors)
Could you elaborate on this protocol? It definitely sounds worthwhile and I would be very interested in finding out more about it.
How do you go about starting these powerful tremors?

It is not too difficult. They are easier shown than explained. I think you can order a booklet from Berceli for $10.
Re: Berceli Protocol - Trauma Releasing Exercises (Tremors)
After many more hours of research, it seems very plausible that this "trauma" diagnosis is correct in my case. My intention in posting is to guide those who are researching this. Apparently, traumatic coupling is quite common in sexual arousal and panic. This is explained in Dr. Levine's book "Waking the Tiger". The symptoms are triggered by arousal which is coupled with a fight or flight response and panic. One primary reaction is vaso-constriction. I am using a type of "somatic experiencing" technique that is helping to control this autonomic response.
