Hello all! I'm new!
Hello all! I'm new!
Hi Everybody! My name is Ryan...31 yrs old. This is my first post here. I am new here and am hoping to learn from all of you. I have been diagnosed with prostatitis for 2 months now and am very frustrated! My original symptoms were pain in testicles, perineum, anus and lower back. I was on Cipro for 10 days and side effects were too much to bear. It has been 3 weeks since and I still have ringing in my ears...Anyway, my symptoms now are just perineum pain, anus on occasion and a pretty strong pain after ejaculation (the biggest depressor). ....however testicle and lower back pain are now gone. The urologist has not detected bacteria. I have had prostate massage, and 2 DRE's. Prostate is "sensitive" and "tender". Not really enlarged. I have not had any major urinary issues (unlike many blogs I have read), therefore, it didn't start as a bacterial urinary tract infection and has not manifested into one either. I have some frequency, but not any more than I used to. The more I think about it, over the past 2 years, I have had more trouble at the end of my urinations finishing (I drip and tend to shake a lot). 2 months ago when I came down with prostatitis, I was just getting over the most anxious time in my life. I had just gotten back from Vegas....drinking for 5 days with my high school and college buddies...I had 2 panic attacks there due to side effects from Prilosec causing major chest pains and muscle spasms (I know weird huh?). When I came home, I was in and out of the ER, Cardiologist, Gastrointernist, and general practitioners offices. Of course, everything ended up checking out fine with my chest...they said it was the side effects from the prilosec. Therefore, with this being said, I think I have just 'flared up' a prostatitis from stress, anxiety, and drinking I have had for a while...Again, only speculation. I just don't think it is bacterial. I am currently in physical therapy with a chiropractor, and doing a lot of breathing exercises and meditation. I'm basically just trying to chill my mind and body out.... I'm currently taking zinc, garlic and cranberry supplements. I am considering ordering Quercetin. My intuition is telling me I have some nerve issues in my pelvic floor. The urologists are telling me to just take hot baths and wait it out......Thoughts on helping me on my track to recovery? Any response would be greatly appreciated. I am highly energetic, motivated and driven to beat this thing as I really would like to get my sex life back with my girlfriend. Its really taking a toll on me. Lastly, my symptoms seem a bit mild compared to most on here.....Is it safe to assume milder cases of prostatitis are easier to treat if one is willing to put in the effort? I have quit drinking alcohol, caffeine, spicy foods, sugar.
Age:31 | Onset Age: 31 | Symptoms: minor lower back pain, perineum pain, rectum, testicular....I have to shake and push a lot at the end of urination, but have had to for years. My initial onset was April 3rd 2011. I had major testicle and lower back pain. It has subsided to minor. My biggest problem is pain for days after sex. | Helped By: Eating healthy, hot baths, external PT, therapy, not thinking about it..Any other suggestions? I'm a bit hesitant to do internal PT.... | Worsened By: sex, alcohol, salt intake, stress/anxiety, sitting....biggest flares come on weekends after sex/alcohol and eating wrong....I am now cured as of May 20th or so from relaxation, healthy lifestyle, no stress/anxiety, eating properly, prosta Q, fish oil, external myofascial trigger point massage and TIME. Time heals everybody....Good luck and thank you all!
Re: Hello all! I'm new!
Ultimately you have to break the anxiety cycle. Need to stop dwelling on it and move on. I know easier said than done. I struggle each and every day. You probably wound yourself up in stress and it manifested in your pelvic floor. Stretching spas light exercise. Get your natural endorphins moving. Occupy your mind with something else. Hard to do but worth the effort. The more you think and obsess the worse you will be. And that is a guarantee. I've been to so many docs and ER visits I feel like a nutcase. Each one checks out fine. Ultimately we wind ourselves up being hypervigilant and we end up paying the consequences.
Good to go!

Is it ok to drink alcohol? I just want a couple drinks.....I just don't want to make it worse....what about Quercetin??

I went on the same stuff as you did, but found the cranberry pills made the pain worse! I'd order the any accredited quercetin product right away, try it, it may help you!!! I quit drinking , smoking, caffine, sex for 3 months, not as bad as it sounds, the urge left anyway!

Re: Hello all! I'm new!
I'm still in recovery. For me it all started July 04/10, that's when the pain started, it then got worse over the next 3-4 months. I stopped making any future plans, the pain was that bad. I then found this site and started on my own healing plan as the doctors here had no idea what I had. They kept giving me pills, that didn't help. I then ordered Posta-q and started on other herbal stuff I found here on this site. It gradually got better but the that time was very trying for me. I think I was on any accredited quercetin product 3 months, then started on Elavil and flexeril, that's when I finally found some relief. The pain moved and changed a lot, I had almost every issue at one time or another, pain, bladder, golf ball, tingling. I then went on any accredited quercetin product next for 2 months, plus doing PT internal work. I've also done acupuncture all the way through for bladder issues and relaxation issues.
It's been almost a year now and I'm still healing, the main thing is never give up hope, you can heal too, just look on the site and learn what you have and how to fix it. I still have an off day, but the good days are more then the bad ones. Keep a pain log with dates and drugs your on, this will tell you if your getting better. I also found hot baths helped and stretches that I did daily to loosen the pelvic floor.
Be aware it's a slow process, it doesn't happen over night. I still use a heating pad at night. I'd say I'm 80-90 percent back, but I'm still trying new stuff to heal fully. Keep an open mind, stay off the internet, it's got bad info on it. I use this site lots. I now have no pain after sex, which is great, but I went awhile with little to no urge as the pain was just too bad for me. Remain positive!!!! It's tough but do able!!

Wow. Thank you for the response. Looks like I'm pretty fortunate.....my pain has almost completely been unnoticeable during the day....however, simply getting aroused hurts....let alone sex or post - orgasm. I'm just going to give it another month minimum of no drinking, or sex. I will see how it goes. I just ordered my Quercetin....still taking garlic, cranberry, flax seed and zinc currently...My anxiety has done down a ton..my girlfriend and I have equally accepted that this is going to be a long recovery...and we are ok with that! Are you able to have a few occasional cocktails? That is all I want to do right now...just to relax, but i know it isn't worth it. I feel like I've come a long way in the past 2 months and don't want to ruin my momentum! What do you suggest? Should I wait until no symptoms at all prior to having sex, or a vodka cocktail? By the way, I'm really curious as to what the best alcoholic beverage is (obviously NONE is the best answer), if I was to have one or two..??

Avoid cranberry (acid, good for bacterial infections but not CPPS).

Re: Hello all! I'm new!
My advice is to take it slowly with the sex, alcohol, etc. Basically once you are pain free, try to have "conservative" sex. So don't thrust much, make sure you aren't clenching when you ejaculate, consider asking your doctor for Valium (A HEADACHE IN THE PELVIS recommends trying out 2.5 or 5 mg I think). Once you've managed to have sex with these conservative measures WITHOUT pain, then start (slowly, again) removing each of those things. The MOMENT you start feeling pain, back pedal and give your body a rest.ryanjfxx4 wrote:Should I wait until no symptoms at all prior to having sex, or a vodka cocktail? I'd use the same strategy with alcohol.

Re: Hello all! I'm new!
Guys, I have a question. My symptoms were completely under control all week last week.....I went out Friday night, had 1 vodka drink, had sex Saturday morning, ate a very salty pot roast Saturday, and Sunday. Sunday night I had major testicular and pelvic pain. Now, after 2 days of drinking plenty of fluids and back on a perfect diet low in sodium, low in fat, I am feeling 90-95% better. Is this a classic case of non-bacterial prostatitis? My body is telling me what flares it....so I feel it is not bacterial. Should the possibility of it being bacterial still haunt me? Should I get additional tests done? Or should I just keep going the route I have taken? Also, how do I input a signature so you can all understand my symptoms better?

You do not have an infection. Here is what a chronic bacterial infection of the prostate sounds like:

Re: Hello all! I'm new!
Hey thanks Webslave! I should have a signature now.....Hey, I'm reading A HEADACHE IN THE PELVIS and it is great! I'm hoping I can get better without having to do the internal trigger therapy. Question for you....I think I'm starting to realize I have only had this pain for 1½ months...I'm really glad to have you all as a support group and consider it a wealth of knowledge so early in the game....Do you think I may just have a short term bout of pelvic pain? Because I have had it for over a month doesn't actually mean it is going to be a chronic issue for many more months to come does it? I'm trying to set goals for myself and it is hard with no end in sight....All I am doing right now is a ton of stretching, meditation, breathing and anxiety release....I will tell you A HEADACHE IN THE PELVIS pinpoints the fact that the symptoms carry over long after the stress/anxiety is gone. I have felt great mentally other than my prostatitis for the past 2 weeks. I have stayed extremely positive and will continue to do so. My girlfriend has been extremely supportive, which is a very good thing. If I stick with the protocol...seeing my symptoms are pretty minor relatively speaking..do you think I can kick this before it develops into a chronic case? Or is it already there?

Re: Hello all! I'm new!
There's every chance that you can get over it quickly if you jump on it early, especially because nerves are a large factor, and nerves and nerve pathways are slow to heal or change.

Re: Hello all! I'm new!
The past few days on my new exclusion diet have been pretty consistent. I just have a lower back...almost tailbone ache...constant. Only a 2 on a pain scale. Maybe its the hard stools...maybe the lower back physical therapy this week? Webslave, do you think it is a bit early in the game for internal therapy? I am starting external trigger point pelvic pain massage therapy next week. The rest of my body feels great....I have a ton of natural energy...just a bit frustrated every day with this.....its only been a month and a half...How do people live with this annoyance for years and years? My guess is they do not seek proper therapy.
