Karl,

In a different thread under FAQ and general news, you say you are a therapist in this place...is that my understanding? The reason why I'm saying this is I don't want people in this forum including myself to view this as a conflict of interest if you have any financial gain from this clinic...I just want to be on the up and up here as a moderator, it is my responsibility to ask these type of questions...The facility looks great!!! I believe your intention is in the right place...I just want some more information and clarification on your roll in all of this...

Thanks for your response and I fully appreciate your concerns. I am the head therapist and co-owner of The Bodyworks Practice and I do offer treatments for chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome and Prostatitis, however the Support Groups are purely non profit making (i don't even charge for attendees to come) and I do not use it as a marketing tool for my treatments, that is against my principals and ethics when it comes to supporting sufferers. The aim of the Support Group is to gain a greater understanding into the condition, create a network for sufferers to call upon when they need the support outside of the group meetings, discuss individual concerns and offer advice based upon my own experience. I hope this answers your question, please feel free to come back to me.

Warmest Regards

Thank you Karl,

I do have more questions...

1. What type of PT do you offer our sub-group? As you know, pelvic floor dysfunction requires skilled knowledge of internal trigger point therapy...as well as external trigger point therapy.

2. Do you practice any of the methods in the book "A Headache in the Pelvis"? and are you familiar with Dr. Wise and the protocol?

No problems.

My background is in Deep Tissue Massage, Sports Therapy, Stress Management and Craniosacral Therapy (I have been qualified for 10 years this Spring). I treat chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome using a highly specialised form of abdominal and pelvic massage called Arvigo Massage, which is an external therapy massage, no internal trigger points are used, although I do use external points. I have studied Arvigo in the UK, Belize and Portland OR, you can find more info on Arvigo Massage on my website http://www.thebodyworkspractice.co.uk/a ... ssage.html In addition I have also studied 3 further abdominal and pelvis massage courses here in the UK. You can read a little more about me at http://www.thebodyworkspractice.co.uk/karl_monahan.html

I have a copy of A HEADACHE IN THE PELVIS and am very interested in the approach by Dr. Wise. I did contact him last year to see if I could learn more about his practices and study with him to further my knowledge base in treating CPPS, unfortunately all my correspondance's were never replied to. I do find the approach very interesting and use stretching and mobility therapy in my practice, as Dr Wise does.

I combine Arvigo Massage with stress reduction tools, lifestlye changes including diet and nutrition (my partner is a Nutritionist, Colonic Therapist and Iridologist), exercise advice, stretch and mobility therapy and sitz baths to name some of the modalities, I tailor each treatment in accordance with each individual and their presenting case.
I hope this helps, as before please do come back to me if I can help any further.

Warmest Regards

Karl

Again, thank you Karl for your efforts in helping our sub-group. If I can... I would also recommend Dr. Wises' latest book on Paradoxical relaxation, because as you know, anxiety plays a major role for our group.https://www.amazon.com/dp/0972775587. It reads very easily, although I find paradoxical relaxation to be very difficult for me, so I do something called autogenic relaxation http://www.stress-relief-tools.com/auto ... ation.html. Non the less I think this book gives great insight to anxiety and how it plays a major role in pelvic pain. Unfortunately...internal trigger point pelvic floor therapy is also an important part for recovery for people who suffer from pelvic pain...There is no way around it in my experience and the hundreds of men I have spoken to in regards to this condition since August of 2006...

At this point, I support your efforts and you have answered all my questions.

I'm surprised that you did not get any correspondence back from Dr. Wise...This is not like him to do so...??? because if you want to successfully treat our sub-group, you will need his guidance, wisdom and support...

Dr Wise gets a lot of emails and phone calls. I suspect he protects himself by ignoring requests for his time when he can.
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

Karl,

After reviewing your website and your listed links, you may not have the proper training to treat Men and Woman with pelvic pain syndromes with out the proper education of our syndrome....Your questionnaire is fine for gathering information on symptoms, but we have found that the best overall approach is to learn internal pelvic floor treatment through Dr. Wise's protocol...His therapist Tim Sawyer is one of the best at treating internal trigger points that are linked to pelvic pain. You can do a search here in this forum to learn about him. His # is 408 237 7365...Not sure if this # is still active, but you can certainly try it and see if you can contact him and discuss your options for properly treating our patient group...He is very busy I'm sure, so contacting him could be difficult. I wish you well and the UK needs good PT's who are knowledgeable in treating external and internal TP's associated with pelvic pain syndromes...Now in saying this, your experience in over all therapy and your work in relaxation is impressive, but our complex syndrome is baffling to say the least and so hard to treat...It's daunting for sufferers to imagine having to have "internal work" and it must also be daunting for a PT to embark on this journey as well. Please keep us posted on your work.

Respect

I e-mailed Dr Wise's office on three occassions and had several therapist friends of mine in the states contact his office on my behalf with no success.
I have been carrying out a mini study on the benefits of Arvigo Massage in treating chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome (also at my own expense) since last Summer, which will be presented to The Prostate Centre London, where I have been working as a therapist for since 2006, and at The Arvigo Annual Convention in March. I would be more than happy to post the findings and outcomes on here for your reference.

Thanks for your support and encouragement. I was just wondering if either of you have ever seen Dr Wise or had any of the Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol treatments?

Hi Karl,

I have never been to the clinic...I live in Los Angeles and I saw Bonnie Cardenas whom Dr. Wise said he had heard of her...She has a vast knowledge of internal pelvic floor therapy...So going to see her for a few months early in my onset and learning the protocols from Dr. Wise's book was helpful...

I have been to the WA clinic . In my view a viable treatment is only good if it can be replicated by others, for example, the Manilla protocol is not good because only one dr claims success in performing it, while others do not. I think that other physical therapist/massage therapists have the ability to perform the WA protocol in a meaninful way without speaking to Dr Wise or Tim Sawyer and we should not pass judgement until proven otherwise.

I see a great one and have for 2 years, just as good as Tim, he has treated other patients from WA protocol before and still does. He has spoken with Tim once briefly and never with Dr Wise. In this one conversation I doubt he was able to be trained on all the spefics of what Tim does.

It could be this approach is wrong and Tim just has more experience, but he had to get that experience somewhere (travell), it is important to get others trained and gain experience or this WA protocol will never take off on a mass scale. Surely not everyone with chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome can go to Cali for 4 G's and fit into the max 16 person groups each month. I also think that there is bound to be criticisms of any therapist including Sawyer, I have a number of emails of people in my group complaining that the protocol doesn;t work. Bill Taylor, highly regarded on this site has been subject to a number of legitimate and wacky criticisms.

I know that some psychologists and other mental health workers can be trained or licensed in a specific protocol or specialty like dreaming, hypnosis, etc. Maybe one of these therapists who we know to be legitimate steps up and offers this training, a whole business plan could be created. I doubt that some have the time or want to spend it showing others their skills.

gmccormack,

Actually, no judgment at all being done...There is nothing in my post judging him...Karl clearly states he has never attempted internal trigger point release...All I'm doing is suggesting to contact an expert in this field...My PT has never trained or been connected to WA clinic either and effectively treated me...so my point is that if he wants to successfully treat people with pelvic pain, Karl would need to be trained in internal work...No one and I mean no one is going to fully recover or recover from pelvic floor dysfunction with out having this type of work done unfortunately...I think you will agree...

I also want to make it clear that I support Karl and his company...It looks like a fine establishment for all around body health and I feel that he is going to be of good value and if i can help with my own experience and the hundreds of men I have spoken to in 5 years...I will pass it along to him because I believe his intention is for real...Hope that clears things up....
