Hello,
I have not posted here for years, but my battle with chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome has been an extremely difficult and protracted one.
After 18 years battling with this and exploring every conceivable treatment*, I have FINALLY had a massive breakthrough.
After excluding all soy from my diet for six weeks, my pain is at about 5-10% of what it had been.
I also excluded this Australian margarine : http://www.nuttelex.com.au/
I am actually getting erections again, and my ejaculation is amazingly improved. For the first time since I was 15 I have a libido instead of a dead feeling, and am experiencing nocturnal erections. My IBS has virtually gone and my body feels more virilised.
I began a very high soy diet at about 13, and soy, especially soy milk, has just been an assumed part of my family's diet since about then, as has the margarine.
I thought I had ruled out soy as a culprit years ago, but I now realise that it is a hidden ingredient in so many things. Also, I had never held out for longer than two weeks.
My breakthrough is a little confusing, because the margarine may also have been the culprit.
I don't want to test to find out, but one way or another, the physical change has been astonishing. I no longer feel constantly bloated and the relief from testicular pain is a true blessing.
I now completely believe what they say about phytoestrogens and soy products for men. I even had a weird 'detox' with little pimples appearing on my wrists, ankles and nipples (!).
This website may seem a little militant, but it sums up what I absolutely believe happened to me: http://www.soyonlineservice.co.nz/
It is not at all overstating things to say that the crippling pain I have lived in has ruined my life and my emotional world. I have seen so many specialists, and desperately tried to sort this out for 18 years.
This has been a major breakthrough.
I know that soy has become a major part of the western diet over the past 50 years, often as a hidden ingredient. It is in most breads, so I wonder if what some people have perceived as a confusing/variable gluten sensitivity could in fact be soy related (which is not at all to discount many people's gluten sensitivity).
I suppose it all seems obvious in hindsight, which makes me angry at myself. But remember, soy is promoted as a health food! Ridiculously, as a teenager, I ate MORE of it hoping to get healthier and recover from whatever was making me impotent.
I could go in to detail about my family's vegan/vegetarian food politics at the time, but I am still working through my anger at this situation.
I now believe in whole, non processed foods, RED MEAT!, avoidance of all soy, and avoidance of trans fats.
Our grandmothers generation were right!
*needless varicocele surgery at 18, surgery to repair a resulting hydrocele, a needless inguinal hernia surgery, the Wise/Anderson clinic in California, every diet/exclusion diet (I had thought) imaginable, acupuncture, naturopathy, Elavil, psychotherapy, endocrinology, the list actually goes on...)

Thanks for this report, Danno. To support your findings, it is known that some people tend to get CPPS-like symptoms by taking anti-androgens such as finasteride. Search this forum for finasteride to read some of the stories.

I am so happy for you. I did years of the RPAH elimination diet thinking my problem was salicylates. It appears to be mainly muscular. Now I just stick to whole foods. Sugar, alcohol and too much fruit make my symptoms worse. I hope you continue to improve after such an awful time. Are you in Australia because Nuttex is one of the products recommended on the RPAH elimination diet?
CPP since 2005. Prior to CPP always overly fit and active. I am female. Had two natural births: singleton 1998 and twins 2000. 2002 emergency back surgery - L5S1 herniation. Then recurring UTIs. Usual antibiotic overload. Then constant debilitating burning bladder and reaction to many foods. Australian Pain Clinic 2007. Turning point was Dec 2009 Attended Wise Clinic in Santa Rosa USA.
Was helped by strict diet but now eating normally after years of restricted diet - wonderful. Helped by: stretching, relaxation, yoga, trigger point, warm baths. Worsened by: stress, sitting, abdominal or glute exercises and salicylates
Medication: Now off all pain clinic meds no more Endone or Elavil only Lyrica 50 mg as Dec 2010 just reherniated L5S1disc and had discectomy. Its taken years but I feel I am over it.

Re: Amazing breakthrough removing soy and margarine from die
I had great success when I removed margarine from my diet and switched to a LCHF diet. I can’t imagine how anyone can eat Margarine at all. This is some of ingredients and products that are used in the production chain of margarine; extraction gasoline (hexane), phosphoric acid, lye, bleach, nickel catalyst (for hardening), sodium (for re-esterification processes), solvents from the fractionation. Margarine (Omega-6) is a very inflammatory product. Omega-3 on the other hand is anti-inflammatory.
At last I just want to post some lines from the year 1997 published "The margarine hoax - Margarine, Fatty Acids and Your Health"
"To maintain good health it is important that we have the correct intake of omega fatty acids in our diets. Hydrogenated fats like margarine are non-foods with toxic effects and should be avoided at any cost."
Hydrogenation became popular in the US because this type of oil doesn't spoil or become rancid as readily as regular oil and therefore has a longer shelf life. You can leave a cube of margarine sitting out for years and moulds, insects or rodents will not touch it. Margarine is a non-food! It would appear that only humans are foolish enough to eat it! Because the fats in margarine are partially hydrogenated (i.e., not fully saturated), the manufacturers can claim it is "polyunsaturated" and market it to us as a healthy food."

Many margarines contain no trans fats. Read the labels.
