Than a few days ago they prescribed me Elavil, said it would help my pain. I feel really ill and it hasn't helped my pain. My question is; should I quit smoking for a while or just smoke in moderation? I do have stomach problems and my pain is increased sometimes with a bowel movement. (I know I shouldn't smoke but I have a lot of anxiety. does anybody have any natural remedies, I'm going crazy here.

marijuana and Elavil? pain sucks!
I just wanted to see if anyone has benefited from medical marijuana. my handle is lovemaryjane because I do, and it helps me sleep, but lately I have noticed sometimes it aggravates my pain and sometimes it takes it away. It is very bothersome to have penile pain and even worse to have that increased if I smoke a joint (something that usually relaxes me)

Sounds like you are having a lot of referred pain. You need to have your pelvic floor examined. There are 3 places in s.d that do the internal work. University city physical therapy (ucpt.com) is the best. Kristina is the therapist. She is very good. Read hitp and get familiar with the pelvic diagrams before you go in. I would imagine it will get you on the road to recovery.
Discover meditation. It will change your life.
Good luck.

LMJ,
I know what you mean about the mary jane. Even before I started having pain mary jane would sometimes make me feel awesome and others kind of crummy. I still smoke b/c it does help me relax and sleep but my pain can be increased if I'm not in the right state of mind. I think meditation is a great suggestion. I believe much of this type of pain comes from years of tension and anxiety as described in the HITP book. I have a really high stress sitting (programmer) job that I can't quit or lose. Often times I think if I could quit and focus on myself things might improve, but unfortunately I can't. Read HITP and hang in there. Did you ever post your MRN? I'd be interested to see how it compares to mine.

I would stop smoking it because for men with our disposition pot can increase anxiety and panic disorder if you smoke it long enough...

I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

Re: marijuana and Elavil? pain sucks!
Yea I agree. I had the same thing happen. at smaller doses its effective, but I did a big bowl of the master kush and all the area where my bloating and pain is generally at, was increased. I was more aware of the pain, and it was like a glowing area of my body that said "MAJOR ISSUES HERE!" I think there are studies that say, too little, no reduction in pain, in the middle.. just right, too much, increase in pain. Remember MJ makes you more aware of your body, at least it does for me, and if you have an issue the mind will concentrate on it and it will show up when you smoke. the brain is a powerful thing. You need to be in the right state of mind.
I just started MMJ (~1month) as I figured I have tried everything else, why not this? So far its a mixed bag. I did way to much and frankly, last night blew my mind. I've never felt like I did. Felt like I had energy coming out of every area of my body, like pulsating out with a high frequency, and then it just started concentrating around where my issues were (lower pelvis, bladder, even some pain in my lower back by my spine, which was odd.) The internal pain was numbed out... like I knew I had to urinate, but I didn't get the crazy urge, does that make sense? But at the same time, I had that "i need to go" feeling, but it was like dulled out and radiating around the area. I don't man it was weird. Very very weird. Still not decided on this.
I have to admit it has made some good changes as far as stress reduction, but last night was the first bad xp I have had.

Is this the actual cannabis or the smoking of it? Usually us human tend to overindulge and I was leaning more smoke as a possible trigger/damage. I just want to enjoy cannabis I have PTSD, and I can't even have sex, I will try to get rid of it for 30 days and will let u know how it goes. Elavil is dangerous and I would rather not use chemicals in my body.
Any feedback would be great on any studies, and thanks to all the replies on the info. Thx guys.

There are no studies on this particular topic, but quite a few men have reported flares from cannabis use. Yes, Elavil (amitriptyline) is a chemical, but so are the cannabinoids in cannabis.

Any substance you take into your body, cannabis included, can have potentially dangerous side effects. That's just the reality of it. Having said that, Elavil is a very old and proven drug. If it were dangerous, it would've been removed from the market a long time ago.
I'm presently on four drugs, which I take at varying dosages per day as part of pain management. Still, I'm here and well. It's fine to be mindful of the potential impact medications have, but you shouldn't allow your reservations to blind you to the benefits, either.
I agree with the above posters who've said that cannabis often causes flares. Search post history on 'cannabis' and related words.

Good to know. Thanks guys for the info.
Does anyone know in conjunction with weed, can coughing worsen our symptoms? Most of the weed I smoke makes me cough somewhat and I won't lie I've been smoking almost 400 days in a row. Do u think I could of caused my pain/problems from mary jane? I'm freaking out cuz I grow it and manage a lovely legal garden and I love how it helps me sleep. Maybe I just need a break. I'm worried and I'm in so much pain right now, I can't even join my other friends who smoke cuz the pain will flare. Thanks guys ! :D

Re: marijuana and Elavil? pain sucks!
Coughing can cause an involuntary contraction of some of the muscles of the pelvic floor (some men feel a sharp pain in the lower pelvis when sneezing or couching). Coughing will not cause pelvic problems in itself, but it can give jabs of pain if there is already a problem with the pelvic floor muscles.
Once again, cannabis is a known trigger. If you suspect it may be causing you problems, stop using it.

I smoked a small nug and I don't feel any pain tonight. It's all in the amount you smoke. Your stressing is most certainly making it worse...

Thanks webslave, I'm gonna quit smoking for 90 days and just use an edible or tincture instead. I will report back how I feel, and if the cannabinoids from edible form (non-smokin) offer relief or aggravation. I myself need to take a week break off everything cuz I have been smoking 400+ days. My gut feeling tells me it's the actual
And thanks to all the replies and anyone that read this and got some good info

Experimented with the ganja again. Another terrible reaction. Now a flare up. I flushed it. It's not a solution for me. Way to many cons for me.

Re: marijuana and Elavil? pain sucks!
I haven't used mary jane much but, marijuana has caused 2 major flare ups for me. Everyone is different. I wonder if there is something in mary jane that causes flare ups. One thing for sure, mary jane would make me aroused and increase sensitivity in my pelvic region, and I might have indulged too much which might be the cause or how I tried to control ejaculation. Another factor is anxiety that sometimes came after smoking more than normal. I have come to the conclusion that as much as I liked mary jane, its not worth it anymore.
