Here is what I'm experiencing... please tell me what u think
Hi everyone,
I'm a new user of this forum. I'm from Quebec city in Canada. I'm 25 and I work as an electronic technician.
Here are my symptoms:
-Post ejaculation pain in the urethra and in the penis in general
-Discomfort or pain in the genitals
-Reduced libido due to pain in the genitals
-Reduced urinary stream
-Sense of incomplete urination (sometimes)
-Hesitancy before urination
I've seen 3 urologists and only one told me maybe I have CPPS. The two other never heard of that.
I've had the "camera tests" into my urethra and the uro told me everything was fine. I had STD tests and everything was fine. I took antibiotics 2 or 3 times and it didn't solve my problems.
It looks like everytime I read about CPPS, one of the principal symptoms is bladder and bowel pain or problem but I don't have those problems....
I'm reading the famous book A Headache In the Pelvis and I ordered a Theracane. Do you think I'll get good result?
I do feel that I often contract the muscles in the pelvic area for no reason...
Do you think I may suffer from chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome ??
Please tell me what you think!! thanks a lot.

You came to the right place, check out the starter list viewtopic.php?f=34&t=6475&p=36256#p36256
There is no doubt from your description you have CPPS.
I think you'll realize that no one has the exact same symptoms as you, I however, also do not have bowel movement and bladder pain and have had or still have all the symptoms you mentioned.
Just ordering HITP and poking yourself with the Theracane is not going to work, you need to learn the methods and protocol in the book. It would be very helpful to get in touch with a PT in your location (there is a list on this board), to show you how Trigger Point therapy is performed and you can use trial and error to mimic it.
Have you tried any meds? I would suggest nortriptyline over amitriptyline (Elavil), it has helped some men.
When my flow was really weak, alpha blockers (Flomax, uraxatrol) did help especially to empty my bladder.

Re: Here is what I'm experiencing... please tell me what u t
Thanks gmccormack for your quick answer!
I did read this starting list already and I found it useful. That's why I ordered A HEADACHE IN THE PELVIS and the Theracane.
My urologist gave me a list of PTs in my region that will be able to help me (I hope). I'm just waiting to receive my Theracane by mail to call them and get a rendezvous.
I tried amitriptyline (Elavil) for 10days (at 10mg) and I found that I was really tired all day long. I was taking the pill at 9pm and I usually go to sleep at 10h30-11h00. I stopped because I was too tired. Also I've heard theses drug can cause problem with getting an erection.. is that right?
I have a friend of mine that is in the pharmacy business and she told me that amitriptyline will have effect after 3weeks of taking the pills.. So told me I must take it for that long before to see any results.. Do you think I should take them again? make if I cut the pill in half?
Also, will this drug help me to calm down the nerves or will it simply calm the symptoms? Do you know what I mean? I what to solve the problem, not only to hide the problem.
Sorry for my English guys, and thanks for answers!

Bonjour bigboy, ca va bien? I'm from Montreal but my French is not that good:P Although my symptoms (mainly burning, aching in the penis shaft) are a little different from yours, I pretty much went down the same path. 3 uros, meds etc. I've been pretty much doing everything the fine people of this board here has told me and have been getting better slowly, so you are in good hands. Just wanted to say hi to a local and if you need help with translation let me know. I'm not the best in French but I understand it pretty.
33 M. Healthy Diagnosed Jan 11, 2010. 28 Days Cipro. Main prob was 24/4 Penis burn on right side of shaft and some pain between scrotum and anus. Peeing like an old man. Did a week of Broccoli treatment, and Aleve (naproxen) and now started as of Feb 18, 2010 Prosta-Q, D-Mannose and waiting for my Swedish flower pollen.

I mentioned NORtriptyline because it causes less drowsiness than amitriptyline. Your friend is right in some cases it can take up to 3 weeks to start working. It is calm the nerves which in turn eases some of the symptoms, it is NOT a cure, merely makes things easier while you heal. I don't know about it causing ED issues, never heard of that.
Good that your uro was keen on PT and gave you a list, most men have to dig around quite a bit to find someone that has a clue.
Keeping the pelvis relaxed is very important, I notice that I have flares when I work my pelvis too much, there is a link.

What do you mean by flares?? I don't know that word sorry.. and google translation won't give me something intelligent.
I've call two PT places that my uro recommended to me. The first place know about chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome and they say they treat this problem often but there is no place for a rendezvous before the summer :S
The second place, they have place right now they say, but the girl a the reception don't know if the PT can solve chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome problems. They are supposed to call me tomorrow.
I'm very exited ! I really hope they can help me.. I had those symptoms for mainly all my life and its getting worse and worse.
I'll talk to her about amitriptyline and NORtriptyline... maybe I can change my prescription. For the ED, I thought anti depressent could cause ED.... amatriptyline is an antidepressant.. so.. Does the 10mg is too small to cause ED?
Thanks for you help

Big boy, I think in french the best way to describe "flare" it would be: quand to experience des symptôme.

Bigboy,
SSRI anti depressants can cause ED, tricyclics like the 2 we are discussing don't have that side effect that I'm aware of, in addition it has been shown that tricyclics are better on pain than SSRI's but SSRI's are better on depression. chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome patients may have situational depression, so if we can ease the pain the depression also subsides.
The meds are all trial and error and they are all going to be off label (not for use specifically for CPPS)
I would suggest you really try to get a physical therapist that has worked with this condition before, hopefully you can get to see them before summer?!?! that's a long wait....

I've been on amitriptyline for two days now, and I feel that I dont need to think about being relax in the pelvis region. I'm just more relax naturally.
The day before I began amitriptyline, my pelvic muscles were always contracted for no reason.

I must say that I felt better for while with amitriptyline.. My pelvis is more relax and my penis burning (after relation) is almost gone.
Also I received my Theracane and its really a good device for relaxing my back!
