My progress (Calguy's Case)
Re: IBS and Gas
Hi,
Gas is one of the most common symptoms of IBS. Have a look at the following site for ideas on what you could do:

Of course, you should also consider consulting your GP or gastro if this is a regular problem you've yet to have diagnosed.

Now I have TMJ, all related to anxiety?
So about a month ago I developed TMJ and it has been a really bummer cause I was really turning the corner with CPPS. I have a lot of tension in my neck and shoulders and was getting tension headaches when this all started. I have pretty much got my symptoms under control with massage and PT and relaxation. I can't help but think this is anxiety related too? which is what feeds my pelvic issues. I started worrying like I have some kind of muscular disease but I really think it is all ANXIETY related.
Age 32, onset 32 Onset Aug 07- frequency was main problem in the beginning-really bad. Now 1 to 2x per night when frequency flairs up. Sore and tight lower abdominal muscles. Occasional burning after bowel movement and full feeling. What helps: Healthy diet(this is huge for me) Started drinking super greens supplament and almost going totally vegetarian to get body more alkaline, starting Prosta-Q, quercetin/zinc tablet in morning helped frequency problem I believe. Massaging abs and doing stretches helps calm down frequency when it is acting up. Wine or vodka after long day. Flexeral and melatonin at night. Swimming and light weights. .5 of Elavil every other day helps with frequency and healing process. Trying to stay positive and not stressing over this!
Re: My progress (Calguy's Case)
That is interesting... I don't think I have full-blown TMJ disorder, but I've been having atypical odontalgia (tooth/oral pain not caused by any apparent dental issue) that I'm going to see a PT for tomorrow.
But I believe that and my chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome are definitely related. The PT I see for chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome says a lot of people who have that also have jaw problems due to teeth clenching. I've worn a bite guard for over a year now, but I'm still having pain so I made an appointment with a PT who specializes in TMJ disorders and other jaw issues.
I think both my chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome and oral pain started because I was put on Adderall for ADD and took it for a year. I had so many side-effects that I quit: tooth decay, acne, hair loss. I think my chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome and odontalgia are after effects from an overwrought nervous system as a result.

Re: My progress (Calguy's Case)
Hi there,
TMJ has many potential causes, but a full body muscular disorder isn't likely to be a leading contender.
Only your dentist (and whoever else they include) can really diagnose the source. However, for a lot of people, it's bruxism. That's a fancy word for clenching your jaw and grinding your teeth, usually when you're asleep. Anxiety is often related to that problem, as well as other aspects of TMJ. Of course, it's also possible for there to be a physical issue in the area, but that would be something for your caregivers to find.
Interestingly, you can also have a myofascial pain syndrome in the surrounding muscles, complete with trigger points! It's a good thing to work with a PT on, particularly as most of them have some knowledge concerning TMJ (unlike PFD).

Re: My progress (Calguy's Case)
My PT is going to start program for TMJ and did get night guard already. I went to a specialist and he said if I do it is so slight that it is probably do to teeth grinding. Its just crazy to me, how what I believe is anxiety, can cause so many issues!
One thing I did find is that when it set in I was so concerned with the TMJ that I totally stopped worrying about pelvic problems and they weren't really an issue. Coincidence I don't know but just reminded me how much of a mental thing this is. Sucks having to treat two problems though but I am sure I can get it under control with some PT and getting my anxiety about it under control!!!!

Telling new girlfriend I take Elavil
Ok so how do I tell this great new girl I met that I take Elavil for anxiety or for this condition? I'm afraid she will think I'm nuts or something. I stayed away from drugs because of this reason but the little bit of Elavil I take does help. Anyone have any experience with this?

I'm sure if you look deeper...Your new girlfriend will also have issues...No one is perfect...Your condition is just a part of you but it's not the whole picture...calguy wrote:Ok so how do I tell this great new girl I met that I take Elavil for anxiety or for this condition? I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

Re: My progress (Calguy's Case)
I also have very recently noticed an imbalance in my jaw when eating.
I am sure it's due to clenching my teeth which I do without noticing.
As soon as I realize it I relax.

Age:27 | Onset Age:27 | Symptoms: Constant urge to pee. When I drink water I can get a quick and strong stream. Sometimes it's a hesitated and weak stram. Seldom and mild ache in perineum that might only last 10 minutes. Slightly less seldom discompfort in prostate (I think). Not too bad at all. Really, the urge to pee is the only thing I care to relieve. | Helped By: relaxation, hot baths, moral support from my wife, she's awesome!... Ativan when I had it... I will be getting on it full time soon (I hope) Not quite sure yet what else. | Worsened By: Anxiety, not sure what else yet
All of my prostatitis type symptoms were gone within 3 weeks of doing what Carld has in his list.
Drop that pelvis, relax, deep breathing, "Headache in the pelvis" book..... I'm not sure why it worked so quickly for me be but I was about as terrified as anyone here that I'd have to live with it. I really feel you don't!!!! Do the protocol. Have faith.

As we get older. . . .
Do you think things will get worse as we get older because our pelvic muscles are so weak. What about urinary issues? Just heard some older guys talking about urinary issues and going all the time. So will it be worse for us?

Re: My progress (Calguy's Case)
Dont give up it works just plug away. I am in my second month of the post Wise clinic..and am getting some real improvement. I am convinced it was all due to the exercises I did after having kids screwing up my pelvic floor with too many ab crunches. And from a womans point of view she may be understanding and get to know a whole lot more about you ....you will feel good again..just keep up the stretches and the healthy relaxation and food you will get there.
CPP since 2005. Prior to CPP always overly fit and active. I am female. Had two natural births: singleton 1998 and twins 2000. 2002 emergency back surgery - L5S1 herniation. Then recurring UTIs. Usual antibiotic overload. Then constant debilitating burning bladder and reaction to many foods. Australian Pain Clinic 2007. Turning point was Dec 2009 Attended Wise Clinic in Santa Rosa USA.
Was helped by strict diet but now eating normally after years of restricted diet - wonderful. Helped by: stretching, relaxation, yoga, trigger point, warm baths. Worsened by: stress, sitting, abdominal or glute exercises and salicylates
Medication: Now off all pain clinic meds no more Endone or Elavil only Lyrica 50 mg as Dec 2010 just reherniated L5S1disc and had discectomy. Its taken years but I feel I am over it.
