Email Virus Warning...

Post by MS »

To all list members:

Please be advised that I received an email from "wszebor" / "[email protected]" and I noticed several email addresses from members of this forum were also sent this message in the "to:" section.

The file is NOT associated with the CP/CPPS/IC forum.

The email contained the virus (worm) W32.Gibe@mm.

This does not mean that "wszebor" intentionally sent the virus, but DO NOT OPEN IT -- JUST DELETE IT! Cipro won't help!

If you received the same message and need help cleaning it, contact me offline. [email protected]

W32.Gibe@mm is a worm that uses Microsoft Outlook. This worm arrives in an email message--which is disguised as a Microsoft Internet Security Update--as the attachment Q216309.exe.

I received it as a "zip" attachment. Inside the zip file was a PIF file, which accesses DOS and does bad things.

Code: Select all

PIF = Program InFormation file, a type of file that holds information about how Windows should run a non-Windows application. For example, a PIF file can contain instructions for executing a DOS application in the Windows environment. These instructions can include the amount of memory to use, the path to the executable file, and what type of window to use. PIF files have a .pif extension .
This virus is all over the internet at the moment.
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

I received it, but being a Mac user I just laughed as I trashed it!
