Could it be this easy?

Post by jl1 »

Hey Guys,

I have been a member for a few months now but this is my first post. I wanted to take a minute to thank all of you for the information you have provided as it has been invaluable. I am hoping that something I figured out may help someone also. I stumbled across something fairly simple but tremendously effective for the pain I have in the perineum area. Maybe this has already been posted but I didn't see anything on it.

Driving for me, as most of you I am sure, is a dreadful thing. I noticed several months ago while walking that if I put some gentle pressure on my perineum while walking, it seemed to marginally relieve some pain. In any event, a few weeks ago while driving in pain I looked through my center console for something to apply pressure on my perineum. (I have been making okay progress and have been seeing a wonderful therapist that does my trigger points etc. but seeing her once a week wasn't enough to keep me out of pain while driving) I found a floatable key chain where I keep my boat keys on and took the keys off and shoved it under my perineum on its side (it fit perfectly and put a little pressure on the muscles). It was very painful at first but within minutes I could feel huge trigger points releasing...even after 20 minutes I still had trigger points releasing. After several days of this (I did it on the way to work) I was virtually pain free in the perineum area. I am very careful to keep it centered as moving it to the side can flare up my pudendal nerve. I finally saw my therapist today (she was on vacation the last two weeks) and told her about it. She said she saw now downside to it as long as I stayed away from the sides and to continue doing it. She also said she couldn't believe how much things had loosened up since the last time she saw me.

Now don't get me wrong, I am not saying this a cure by any means as I still had some trigger points in the front and since I had my tailbone removed I always have them in the back...But I can sit and walk with only minor irritation now :-D

I am very curious to see if this works for anyone else. If you try it, be patient..one day I drove for 20 minutes before I had a huge release. I find a lot of times the pain will increase slightly right before a release.

Good luck.
Jason.

This falls in the line of sitting on a tennis ball and releasing the tight muscles in the perineum. This relief does not surprise me at all. Well done!!!

Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

This is interesting! I have done the sitting on tennis ball as have most of you. However I flared something 6-7 weeks ago when I slided my perineum around on the tennis ball (got testicular pain from it , and redness of ball sack, took 3 weeks for it to calm down). Might it be that I hit the pudendal nerve? Where does the pudendal nerve run in the perineum?
Age: 41 Onset Age: 27 (dec 2006)Symptoms: Urethral burning, muscular pain and soreness around the base of my penis, perineum and muscles around my sitbones. Frequency, urgency, dribbling, general discomfort in the pelvis, decreased libido, tight levator ani (according to PT) and occasional levator- and sphincter spasms. Sometimes ache in penis, especially when erected. Latest addition is testicular pain (and epididymis). Also excretions of clear (prostatic?) fluid throughout the day as well as secretion in my urine. Varying power of urine stream. Redness on tip of penis and ballsack.Helped By: Positive thinking and controlling anxiety Worsened By: Stress, lack of sleep, heavy training (especially abs and legs), catastrophizing over this condition

Tennis balls gave me the WORST flare ups. Too hard and too wide and according to my PT the area I was hitting with it was the P-nerve. The other thing I noticed is that the Floatable key chain on its side can be put right over the rectum (or even further back without irritating the Pudendal nerve). Can't believe how many trigger points I had there and the relief I got. I just got to work now and I watched the clock carefully on my way in. Even after 26 minutes of driving I was still getting trigger releases. They seem to happen in small amounts although I have huge releases also. I think time is very important and to many of us stop after 5 minutes etc. or apply to much pressure. On more thing to point out that I think helps (and might be very useful for those who can't take baths often) is that I heat up an elastogel (elastogel.com) and sit on it for 5 minutes before I put the key chain under. The elastogel is also awesome for work. It conforms very nicely if you sit on it and pull the end (I use the neck one) up underneath your testicles. Feels great. I sometimes get some releases just from the nice intense heat.

Age:33 | Onset Age:19 | Symptoms:burning urethra, deep sore stinging around the perineum, dribbling | Helped By:when flare starts deep relaxing over a toilet to let out dribbling urine, hot bath, rubbing a heat cream on the perineum, Tens with a pad on the perineum, running, medication (solpadol) for pain. Current treatment: PT. | Worsened By:sitting, stressing over it, ejaculation, sometimes alcohol but I risk it. Been feeling a lot better last 6 months about 85% with a few flares lasting about 5 days. No longer having PT. Stretching every other night and I believe time is also a big factor for me

It measures 3.5 inches long, 1/25 inches high if it is on its side and it is 3/4 inches thick. Fits perfectly for me.
