Ultrasound Therapy

Post by PagesOfTime »

So it's been a while since I've made a post here... I've mainly been dealing with my symptoms and trying to get on with my life, but every now and then, I'll try something new.

A couple of weeks ago, I read up on Ultrasound therapy and it's use in physical therapy and release of muscle spasm. I ordered a small 1mhz ultrasound kit for about $100 and got it last week. I don't want to sound like I'm trying to sell something here, but the thing is a freaking miracle worker!! I did a search on this forum and couldn't find anything about it. Sorry if it's been discussed, but if not, it needs to be. It's amazingly effective on my abs, perineum, and even up around my rear (without actually putting it inside, don't know if that would really be safe). A 1mhz machine will penetrate up to 5cm beneath the skin.

In two uses, it's been able to do more for me than two years of standard PT. Again, not trying to sell anything here and I'm not a doctor so this is not medical advise, blah blah blah.... :-D But if it's helped me that much, I must make people aware.

I'm sure my PT has some Ultrasound machines... Next time I'm in I'll ask her about it and see if we can try it out during the session.

I got mine off of ebay. And as webslave linked to, you can get them on Amazon too. That basically looks like mine except it looks like it has more options, which is probably why the higher price. I think they have some as low as $80 if you do some searching. I just sort of got excited and bought the first one I found.

They sell 1mhz and 3 mhz personal units. The lower the mhz, the deeper it penetrates. I think the 3 mhz only goes 1cm, where the 1 mhz goes 5 cm.

And yah, there are lots of physical therapists/chiropractors who use them so if you have one who can let you try one out, definitely take advantage of it.

I will get one for sure but perhaps this one would be a better choice since it has both 1mhz and 3 mhz and several other functions:

thoughts?

A 1MHz ultrasound will penetrate about 4" below the skin whereas a 2MHz ultrasound unit will only penetrate about 2".

Looks like a good choice to me. It's closer to what I paid but has lots more features. They should all do basically the same so as long as it has 1mhz as a setting, you should be good to go. Let me know how it works out for you.

Interesting read on trigger points

http://www.ultralieve.com/index.php?app ... Point+Pain

Pagesoftime how long does relief last after a session :?:
Age:33 | Onset Age:19 | Symptoms:burning urethra, deep sore stinging around the perineum, dribbling | Helped By:when flare starts deep relaxing over a toilet to let out dribbling urine, hot bath, rubbing a heat cream on the perineum, Tens with a pad on the perineum, running, medication (solpadol) for pain. Current treatment: PT. | Worsened By:sitting, stressing over it, ejaculation, sometimes alcohol but I risk it. Been feeling a lot better last 6 months about 85% with a few flares lasting about 5 days. No longer having PT. Stretching every other night and I believe time is also a big factor for me

It's weird. From what I've experienced, typically from the minute I finish, for a few days, rock solid muscles that felt extremely tight, feel like jello and feel like it's getting proper circulation. After that, I do think it tightens back up to a degree because that's what it's used to but I treated some areas a few weeks ago and haven't touched them again and even though they've tightened back up some, I think they're still softer and more loose than they were before that one use.
