Hi
I'm new to this so excuse anything I do wrong!!
Been diagnosed by Urologsit as have Prostatitis and been suffering for about 6 months in total now, less timethan most on this forum so guess I have a lot more to come. I'm currently on my 2nd course of anti-biotics, 4 week dose of Doxy which I'm halfway through and will finish even though no change, previously had 4 weeks of Cypro which reduced pain initially but I think that was mainly due to me doing absolutly no exercise. Urologist gave me a DRE which wasn't painful and he said all normal. Main pain is above pelvis and in testicles, also my perineum is tender. No urinary issues, urgency/frequency normal. Pain not too bad at the moment but if I do any exercise, even just a 30min walk it makes it worse. Have been trying Sitz baths for the last couple of days so will continue with this.
I've read a lot of posts on here and find the physio/trigger point therapy interesting. I've ordered a copy of HITP and intend to read that before my next Uro appointment at end of June. I dont intend to take any more anti-biotics after the present course after reading the comments on here
I see there are a few UK suffers on this forum, would be especially interested in hearing from them about their fun and games with the NHS and Physio regimes we have this side of the pond. I read that there may be only 1 physio who treats this, Bill Taylor up in Scotland, I'm based in Coventry so not exactly close but would travel up there if needed.
Keep on posting - this forum has been a godsend so far, lots of info and ideas

Welcome,
Your way ahead of the game as far as I can see. You can quickly take advantage of the protocols here and recover well. You can read my starter list to sort a few things out. I think you will do just fine...

I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

Hi Nick,
I'm from the UK too (London). I didn't have physical therapy (although I did use a prostate massager internally to begin with that my or may not have helped with any trigger points). My main source of recovery has been Elavil (or amitriptyline as we call it in the UK), stretches, not holding my bladder for too long and a much more relaxed outlook on life.
Hope you find your path to recovery soon. This place is a great starting point.

Hello
I am in Yorkshire. Went to see Bill Taylor for the first time this month and now have a diagnosis (after 3 years of having the problem) that sounds similar to yours - my pudendal nerve - perineal branch - is under pressure from misalighed muscles in the pelvic floor which causes pain just above the perineum. Treatment was painful. Bill was good. I thought it was effective to start with but I am not so sure now. However Bill says it will take quite a few sessions.

Age:33 | Onset Age:19 | Symptoms:burning urethra, deep sore stinging around the perineum, dribbling | Helped By:when flare starts deep relaxing over a toilet to let out dribbling urine, hot bath, rubbing a heat cream on the perineum, Tens with a pad on the perineum, running, medication (solpadol) for pain. Current treatment: PT. | Worsened By:sitting, stressing over it, ejaculation, sometimes alcohol but I risk it. Been feeling a lot better last 6 months about 85% with a few flares lasting about 5 days. No longer having PT. Stretching every other night and I believe time is also a big factor for me

Hello Graeme
seems like you have been posting for a while but are close to being better. I have some questions for you:
Would you say Bill made a big difference to you? How many times did you go see him? How far apart was each appointment.
What stretches do you do - as per HITP?

Re: New UK Midlands sufferer
Hi I seen bill 5 times once a month first 3 times I came out in increased pain as expected the 4 th time he actually turned my worst trigger point off there and then working on it big time I left the office the best I had been for along time, I went once more and was given a program of stretches to do etc. I've had a few flare up since my last visit which was 10 months ago. Would of gone back but £££
I realise that bill can rid of my trigger points short term but bigger issues relaxing and dropping that pelvic floor are my goals now for a more permanent result. If I got in real bad pain again then I would go back for relief.
