Suprax - anti-biotic

Post by SickofCP »

Hi everyone,

My uro prescribed another anti-biotic. I had been off anti-biotics for about 5 months. I know...I know...I know what you are all saying...anti-biotics are useless, etc. I agree, but I figured I would give them another shot, since in the past anti-biotics initially helped me, but eventually were not successful. Also levaquin helped my symptoms a lot, but had the usual side effects (joint pain in the knees - I think my knees are still not the same from that drug). The uro was never able to find a replacement abx that did the same trick as levaquin.

Anyways, I've been on Suprax for about 1 week now. It's 400mg once a day (I take it in the mornings). About an hour after I take it, I feel VERY good :-D . My urination feels easy with that fresh and clean feeling that every normal man out there takes for granted. I feel REALLY close to normal :-D . This lasts to about 1pm, and then the effects start to fade. I don't feel horrible in the afternoon and night, but the usual symptoms are there. This has been happening every day since I've started taking Suprax. Can anyone help me figure out what is happening here? Is the abx acting as an anti-inflammatory?

Oh, try not to give me a hard time for taking the abx. I'm a desperate man!

I didn't get any replies to this post, but just to keep you up to date, I'm 3 weeks into Suprax and I find that I'm progressively getting better. This has helped me more than anything else has. I'm still taking any accredited quercetin product and I'm still on Xatral, which have both helped too. It's possible that this is a good combination for me.

If an anti-biotic is helping me this much, does this mean that my condition is bacterial?

No, it doesn't. If there's one story we've seen hundreds of times in regard to pelvic myoneuropathy, it's this one: temporary improvement while on antibiotics. The vast majority of men who experience this improvement are not infected, but are experiencing the anti-inflammatory effects of antibiotics. Suprax is a cephalosporin, like penicillin. Cephalexin, penicillin G, chloramphenicol, streptomycin and similar antibiotics inhibit reactive oxygen species generation via their effect on polymorphonuclear leukocytes cell function directly, with resultant anti-inflammatory effects on the inflammatory processes. Read about it here

That said, you may have an infection on top of everything else. I've just read an article stating that STDs in the UK are rampant, so who knows? However, unless you've had the typical signs of an STD (pus from the penis, burning sensations during urination that may be severe), I doubt you are infected. But if you are promiscuous, it's a possibility.

I wonder if this is why the nomenclature has changed to STI - to remove the stigma of 'disease' and make it easier for people to go for help? If so I then wonder if STIs are actually 'rampant' or that more people in the UK go for help rather than suffer in silence and obscure the stats?

Where was the article incidentally Mark? I read that kind of thing in Marie-Claire or Elle about once a year but I'd be interested in a more learned source.

I'm not promiscuous (married and monogamous) and don't have symptoms like that.
