quercetin giving me a flare up?

Post by TJ88 »

I am not certain this is the case, but it seems to be correlating to giving me frequency again. Has anyone experienced adverse reactions like this? (same thing happend when i took fish oil), its confusing ot me because people with IC also take quercetin and get relief.

Quercetin can cause what seems to be a flare when it allows ducts to open and release irritating trapped secretions full of pus cells into the urethra. It's usually temporary (1-2 weeks). If it continues, change to a brand that contains only quercetin and nothing else, since you may be reacting to one of the other products in the formulation.

Ok. It's interesting that you say that because it seems better and worse at the same time. It's hard to put my finger on. It's basically just Quercetin with bromelain, 400mg quercetin, 100mg bromelain per day. I'll try using it for another week or so to at least see if it benefits me.

Would love to hear an update here if you have one. Am also thinking about going on any accredited quercetin product after taking a fluoroquinolone antibiotic.

I feel EXACTLY the same way. I feel both better and worse at the same time after being on any accredited quercetin product for a few days.

Hmm, so I have been on any accredited quercetin product for nearly 10 days now and my pain has only gotten worse. I will likely be stopping any accredited quercetin product tomorrow and starting up with pure quercetin. I think I am reacting adversely to one of the ingredients in Quercetin.

I have had the same issue with Quercetin. When I take a quercetin supplement I am fine, but when I tried any accredited quercetin product it brought back pain and frequency. Very weird.

You could be sensitive to one of the other ingredients. Rare, but it happens.

jahblessbc,

Do you notice any difference w/ the pure Quercetin?

Critthinker,

I do notice a big difference between the effects of any accredited quercetin product and pure Quercetin. It was very weird to me the effect that any accredited quercetin product had on me because I have been taking all of the supplements in the any accredited quercetin product mixture just on their own as opposed to in the any accredited quercetin product cocktail and never had any negative symptoms. I was taking a Saw Palmetto complex as well as a Quercetin supplement and noticed that they had positive effects on my stream as well as frequency. When I tried any accredited quercetin product my frequency was insane and I was having way more muscle spasms then normal. I tried it for about a week and had enough. Went back on my original supplements and the symptoms quieted down almost in 24 hours.

I tried this quite a while ago, in September I think.

Recently, I have been off my supplements because my prostatitis had flared up real bad again and my specialist believed that the supplements would have no effect until the inflammation is brought down and then the supplements will be re-introduced to maintain prostate health. I have been using naturopathic tinctures recently. One is designed to boost my immune system and the other is to clean out the prostate. The prostate formula consists of Pan D'arco, wild indigo, echinecia, and usnea. This has helped me tremendously. Within days my energy levels were up big time and my urinary symptoms were slowly improving.

jahblessbc,

Don't know about you, but it's when the prostate starts to swell up -- that's the worst moment for me. I can deal with the muscle spasm/tightness much better. I become totally dysfunctional, lose all energy, etc. with the inflammation. How about you? Thankfully, I've never had to deal with urinary symptoms, just pelvic pain (mostly suprapubic). I have found it SO helpful to use a tennis ball to do trigger point release on myself. It's ridiculously painful, but quite helpful.

Would love to hear about your exp. w/ prostatic massage. Am considering asking my uro to do one. Basically I had acute bacterial prostatitis a few months ago and am not sure whether the bacteria is still in the pockets of my prostate or not.

Critthinker,
Good to hear from you.

I agree about the inflammation. When there's no inflammation it is tolerable, but as soon as it becomes inflamed boom the symptoms come back full force. Recently I've been taking Melloxicam one daily which is an anti-inflammatory mainly used for joints and muscle tension I think and it has greatly reduced my inflammation. According to my urologist my prostate is back to its normal size and feels normal in all aspects which is a huge positive for me as it was diagnosed as being boggy and swollen on the left side about 3 weeks ago which was the same diagnosis as when I first became ill last year. I think being off the medication for a while, and stress made my condition come back in its original state.

When I am inflamed I am debilitated to say the least. Emotionally and physically.

I have yet to do trigger point release as I am not sure yet whether my case is Chronic Bacterial or strictly CPPS. I am leaning more towards the bacterial side.

In regards to prostate massage. I am not getting strictly just the massage. Recently I have been getting it done about every 10 days as I am undergoing a new experimental type of treatment and the urologist is checking my prostatic fluid on every visit so to do that he massages it. I don't really notice any decrease in symptoms from the massage in itself. It is rather painful actually but since undergoing this treatment every time it has hurt less which is a good sign. Also my prostatic fluid was packed with white blood cells upon the first massage and now on my third, due to the treatment I am undertaking there are no more WBC's and no mucus. Everything looks normal.

I think the massage has its benefits but by no means will it diminish your symptoms for longer than a few hours. Either way, it is worth a shot. It is not going to do you any harm. Just make sure your uro is gentle :)

Thanks for the info Webslave. Unfortunately I do still believe my condition is bacterial, as I have non gonnococal urethritis as well which was found to be due to being infected from my ex-girlfriends bacterial vaginosis infection. Having this has made the prostatitis a lot worse because for a while I assumed that all the pain was strictly from that as the NGU was undetected by my former urologist. Either way I should have answers soon.
