Women's Pelvic Health Awareness

Post by atma »

I found this article on Yahoo today and it rang a bell of irony as to how most of us men never really thought about our pelvic muscles unless we were doing some squats, deadlifts, or ab exercises to build strength and endurance.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090401/hl_ ... c_health_1

The article mentions about women being proactive about their pelvic muscle health and trying to promote awareness. I wonder when mainstream Health covered by the media will direct topics like this to men. Hopefully it is not too far off in the future. I guess we need the medical industry to create a stronger push first. I know it is in motion, but it needs to be faster [, in a relaxed way :icon_smile_lachuh: thanks carld]

Just a little interesting reading.

She suggests women practice deep breathing, with the feeling of letting the pelvic floor muscles "drop away" from the body. Spend at least 5 minutes breathing this way during the day, especially when feeling stressed or tense.
This is one aspect of the article I agreed with in-terms of relating to pelvic floor relaxation that helps both men and women...But we want to stay away from strengthening...This hurts us, not helps...

I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.
