I think I did something stupid. Need advice.

Post by strobers »

I have been doing fairlywell the last few weeks with the only real symptom my urgency/frequency (I don't have to run to the bathroom, but I almost always feel like going)

I have been using a CES device as an adjunctive to my meditation that I'm doing. A CES device is like a TENS, but not nearly as powerful.

I read on the IC site people using TENS as a way of decreasing the symptoms I have. My unit comes with both clips for the ears (for when I use the unit for relaxation) and another two wires where you can attach electrodes.

Last night I put one one each side of my body right above the ankle, which I understand is the bladder meridian. I left it for 45 minutes; 0.5-2Hz. When I finished I had a strong urge to use the restroom, much stronger than what I have experienced since I have been sick. I'm petrified that I did something to my electrical system because now the feeling of having to go is overwhelming, much stronger than before. I got up two times, which is something I NEVER do. I always sleep straight through the night no matter how bad I'm feeling. I'm trying not to panic, but this is so uncomfortable. Has anybody had this happen? Any suggestions? Do you think I did something permenent? Has anybone used a CES? Did I place something wrong?

I'm seeing my doctor tonight, but I'm in such a bad state right now I had to post and get some feedback.

Thank you.

Where on the ankle?

You probably overstimulated nerves and by getting stressed over it, you are generating more nerv stimulation and causing more sensations of having to urinate...I seriously doubt you did anything to damage your self...Your having a flair up. That's all...Be as calm as you can..It will pass...

I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

Hi,

While it's good that you're going to the doctor, I concur with Carl about the odds of having done yourself any serious harm. You applied a device weaker than TENS, which many people use on a daily basis to help with various conditions. I've even had rectal e-stim, which is in much closer proximity to the pelvic floor and associated bodies.

Take a deep breath and try to remain calm. You're just flared up, and even that may be simple coincidence. With our condition, flares are inevitable, and so we just have to push through them. Learning to not panic on occasions where my symptoms worsened, having realized that it's just a part of my life now, helped me a great deal.
I am not a physician. This is not medical advice. Consult your doctor!

Age: 26 Onset Age: 17 Symptoms: Shooting, nerve-like pains throughout the penis, which abruptly hit and leave. Testicular pain, perineum pain, burning/irritative urination, extended pain after ejaculation. Occasionally, some allodynia or ache in the coccyx/sacrum/thigh/buttocks/legs. Diagnosis: Pelvic floor dysfunction, degenerated lumbar disk, and mildly herniated lumbar disk. Helped By: Physical therapy, pain management doctor, hot baths, therapy pool, stretching regimen, breathing exercises, relaxation, distraction. Worsened By: Arousal/ejaculation (worst), constipation, panicking/obsessing, other triggers depend upon current symptoms. Tests/Prior Treatments: Too many antibiotics to count, multiple urine tests (all normal), testicular ultrasound (normal), bladder and renal ultrasound (normal), lumbar and pelvic MRI with and w/o contrast (revealed disk problems), Elavil 25mg (caused retention), Flomax 0.4mg.

If you put your finger on your ankle bone and then move down you will get a ridge. Slide your finger up your leg about 2 inches and that is the spot.

What I was trying to replicate was this. It is a treatment that has helped al lot of people with urgency and frequency issues.

I took a valium so I feel a little better, but I still have that infernal feeling of having to use the rest room. I spoke with a doctor from an alternative clinic and he said that the CES unit is way too low on power to cause any irreparable harm. He thinks I had the unit on too long and that I should have used it only for about 10 minutes, not 45. That's why I'm flaring big time.
