Need advice on Best seat cushions

Post by 9999maverick88 »

I've been trying to find a really good seat cushion - preferably with a depression/hole cut out near the perineum (to let it relax). I notice there are a lot of different kinds available on the web, but I am not sure which ones work the best due to a lack of 'reviews'. Has anyone purchased one, or many different ones, and which ones would you recommend?
Onset Age: 13 Current Age: 21 History: Must of started as a urinary tract infection. My left testicle was hurting, and I waited about 2-3 years before mentioning it to the doctor. I was then put on antibiotics, which did not help. I saw 3-4 different urologists over the years. I was diagnosed with chronic epididymitis. About 2 years ago, the pain in my epididymis subsided, but I still have pain in the rectum/perineum/prostate areas. I have tried courses of antibiotics, ibuprofen, prosta-q, saw palmetto, cranberry juice, and many other natural remedies. This problem gets worse following defecation, or jogging/running. I definitely feel tightness in the pelvic floor, but I don't know how to relax it without concentrating on it (and thinking about this issue makes it much worse for me). I found over the years that my mind tends to focus on the pain, and if I'm distracted, it tends to get better. I read headache in the pelvis and feel that their interpretation of the problem is correct. I have recently started doing relaxation techniques and taking warm baths.

I recommend a latex cushion, one of the ones they use for people in wheelchairs. Lasts a long time, resilient, comfortable, but a little expensive.
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

Thanks! Does anyone else have any suggestions?

I got an inflatable doughnut. It definitely helps. On a good day, I have no symptoms at all except for minor discomfort when I sit too long in a regular chair. It is a little taller than I would like, though, and not entirely stable. I've tried to find what WS is describing online without luck, so maybe he can post a link.

Oh, this isn't too original, but I also have used one of those horseshoe pillows that are really made for putting around your neck when traveling. Mine is full of buckwheat. I had already half emptied it out, because it came too fill to be comfortable for its intended use. Now it is also good for keeping the perineum elevated. For home use I still prefer the doughnut, but the other pillow will be convenient when I have to travel. It won't look unusual to carry on, and no one but the person next to me will ever possibly notice where it ends up. :)

The only thing about those latex cushions, that while they look comfortable, they do not let the perineum 'relax' like a doughnut cushion would. At least, that's the way it looks from the picture, because there is no cut-out in the middle.

That's why I recommend cutting a hole in them.

Do you put the cover back on after you cut, or could even the taut cover apply too much pressure? Even if I stick with the doughnut at home, I could see doing something like this at work. It is a lot subtler than a doughnut... with a black cover it would blend with my chair so that no one would even notice. I'm very fortunate to have a job that allows me to do the much of my work from home. Even I have to work in the office sometimes. though, and it can get uncomfortable after awhile.

Cover goes back on, pressure negligible.

2" should be adequate, right? Seems like it would be much easier to cut through than 3-4". I would only want to make sure that it didn't compress so much that 2" would put my perineum back on the seat.
