I was reading 'how to get at latent anxiety' in the 'best posts' section and it made a lot of sense to me. I find I suppress a lot of my feelings due to not wanting to appear 'irrational'. In this post, the author recommends allowing yourself to experience this anxiety and let you body go through the normal physical symptoms of it (heavy breathing etc.). I'm a little confused, however, because I also have read and feel it makes sense that we must learn to 'relax' - as in, not get stressed out by as many things.
I guess my question is: how do you allow your body to react normally to situations that create anxiety, yet attempt to suppress this anxiety in order to relax? It seems as though both of these methods are at odds with one another, yet make a lot of sense. Can anyone shed some light on these two methods and how one might be able to implement both? Thanks in advance!

Question about best post 'how to get at latent anxiety'
Onset Age: 13 Current Age: 21 History: Must of started as a urinary tract infection. My left testicle was hurting, and I waited about 2-3 years before mentioning it to the doctor. I was then put on antibiotics, which did not help. I saw 3-4 different urologists over the years. I was diagnosed with chronic epididymitis. About 2 years ago, the pain in my epididymis subsided, but I still have pain in the rectum/perineum/prostate areas. I have tried courses of antibiotics, ibuprofen, Prosta-Q, saw palmetto, cranberry juice, and many other natural remedies. This problem gets worse following defecation, or jogging/running. I definitely feel tightness in the pelvic floor, but I don't know how to relax it without concentrating on it (and thinking about this issue makes it much worse for me). I found over the years that my mind tends to focus on the pain, and if I'm distracted, it tends to get better. I read headache in the pelvis and feel that their interpretation of the problem is correct. I have recently started doing relaxation techniques and taking warm baths.

From what I understand, it is important to feel your feelings, meaning not to suppress them. When you observe children, this is easy to see as they cry, scream etc for whatever reason. This behaviour is actually healthy as it allows them to blow off some steam and clear out their negative emotions. Of course, as adults, we can`t do that, at least not in public. I believe a good way of dealing with this is to spend some time every day meditating. Be still and just observe your thoughts and feelings as they pass by in you mind. Over time, this practice will let you not get so attached to your thoughts anymore. It`s quite easy to become a victim of your own negative inner voice. You would be surprised to know how many people actually struggle with that. Meditation has been the answer for many people, so I would suggest you give it a try!

Age:33 | Onset Age:19 | Symptoms:burning urethra, deep sore stinging around the perineum, dribbling | Helped By:when flare starts deep relaxing over a toilet to let out dribbling urine, hot bath, rubbing a heat cream on the perineum, Tens with a pad on the perineum, running, medication (solpadol) for pain. Current treatment: PT. | Worsened By:sitting, stressing over it, ejaculation, sometimes alcohol but I risk it. Been feeling a lot better last 6 months about 85% with a few flares lasting about 5 days. No longer having PT. Stretching every other night and I believe time is also a big factor for me

Right - next time in work I get stressed or something bad happens or goes wrong i'm gonna cry like a baby for half hour, let out all the stress and emotion locked inside lol :)
How funny would that be though! Makes me think of these tv programs you sometimes watch where people stand in forests in a circle and just shout and scream at each other. At one point I would watch this and think "nutters", but hmmmm, maybe they have point!!!
