Onion intolerance is quite common, see this book for a number of cases.

Re: CPPS is taking my life from me (Brett's Case)
Hi Brett,
I can attest to what Webslave says. I've been violently allergic to onions for my entire life. Rather than stomach upset, they make me vomit and give me headsplitting migraines.
It's one particular allergy that's really a pain (no pun intended), because onions are in everything. I always have to check prepared foods, inquire when eating food from restaurants, etc.

Its odd, sometimes I can have salsa, or SOME small amount of onions. A little sprinkle here and there. God damn, this is a bad, bad flare up. Had to go home from work today...

Intolerance is different to allergy. With allergy, a tiny amount of a substance can give you a huge reaction, even kill you (anaphylaxis). But with intolerance, the reaction tends to be proportional to the exposure, in other words if you eat a lot of the offending food, your reaction will be worse.

Re: CPPS is taking my life from me (Brett's Case)
Anytime I have a craving, I take a half a piece of gum (supposedly one cig is 1mg of nicotine) so I take 1mg of gum, and the craving disappears. I didn't think it would work, was skeptical. But this is good as time goes on it will be easier to actually stop. Next thing is to taper off the valium... shooting for 3 months on the cigs, and 6 months more on the benzos to taper off. And just go at this without any chemicals. I think it will be a good thing.

Re: CPPS is taking my life from me (Brett's Case)
well I have been through some crazy nicotine withdrawal symptoms. For about 3 days I thought I was going to kill someone. LOL jk. But the cravings have stopped completely. I'm sure they will be back but as far as smoking is concerned this is the best I have done. Amazing how quickly your body adjusts. I feel a lot better too.

Re: CPPS is taking my life from me (Brett's Case)
Congrats on the smoking cessation!
I know it's difficult (a lot of my friends quit in the past few years) - but it's probably the best thing you could do for your health all around...period.
My Mom had 3 Brothers and 1 Sister - they all smoked and all died of lung cancer in their late 60's/early 70's.
My Mom has never smoked - and is in her late 80's.
Thats all the proof I need to know how bad it is for you.
It's good that you're quitting young too because your lung tissue can still rebuild itself for a few more years.

Age:46 | Onset Age:42 (first occurence Age 17). | Symptoms: A belt of pain that wraps around my waist radiating down my groin & into testicles. Also: Radiating from hips down thighs, Urinary urgency even after voiding, lightning bolts of pain that shoot through my rectum, penis & perineum, muscle spasms in my bottocks, fear of sexual arousal or erection. | Helped By: Hot Water Therapy, RSA Breathing, Pacing more than sitting, Avoiding Negative People, Painting & Writing, Painkillers. | Worsened By: Wearing Pants, Anger, Panic, Depression, Stress, Vigorous Sex, Prolonged Sitting, Constipation, Abrupt Movements, Lifting/Carrying anything more than a Gallon of Milk, Forgetting to do the above things I'm helped by. *Ejaculation is a Mixed bag: It definitely relieves pressure & pain in my Abdomen (as well as a good emotional release) - But, causes bigtime burning in my penis & perineum for 10-45 minutes after.

Re: CPPS is taking my life from me (Brett's Case)
I'm having a nasty flare up. It looks like it was caused from stress. I recently moved, and had a crazy three weeks at work, and to no surprise, I'm in shambles a complete mess. All sorts of dysfunction. I havent been eating well either, so I think I have to concentrate on that and then start back at it. Was doing ok for a bit.
What a nightmare. Going on 2 years with this thing and its not getting better or worse, just kinda coming and going.
I had a question for someone on here. Here is what happens to me EVERYDAY. I wake up, generally have to have a BM. Lately I have been having the BM without many issues. Afterwards I get frequency and urgency. The only time this goes away is when I have lunch. After lunch the frequency and urgency go away. Why would this be? Its just so odd. After that, I'm generally better, until I get home. At which point I have to BM's like little rocks.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? Why would eating my first meal of the day cause my frequency and urgency to go away? I can't figure this out or how it relates to CPPS.

Any idea on why the frequency calms down when I eat? I was thinking two things, low blood sugar, or the food forces me to relax lower abs, not sure...

Re: CPPS is taking my life from me (Brett's Case)
It could be as simple as the fact that at lunch you drink a lot of liquids and therefore the bladder is flushed with fresh urine, diluting the more concentrated urine already present in the bladder (and causing pain because in contact with inflamed bladder tissue). Or it could be to do with the endogenous opioids that are released when we eat food.
