Thanks calman strobers
Let me up the vitamin D dose then. My doc does not have anything for or against increasing the dose. I have read a lot on vitamin D and chronic pain (including the book) but I was not clear on whether I can increase beyond 1000 IU. Will try that. For the record, I took carlson cod liver oil for 6 months(less vitamin A - forget the exact item name). Have stopped it because I am taking too many things(homeopathy, ayurveda etc etc).
Thanks

Re: Vitamin D deficiency
ramana,
Have you been taking 5,000 i.u. of vitamin D3? I read elsewhere on the forum that you had dental problems. That can be another indicator of D deficiency. How about trying 5,000 i.u. of D3 (make sure you don't take more than the daily requirement of vitamin A or it can block the D) for the remaining 2 months of winter and the first month of spring and see if you have any improvement?

Re: Vitamin D deficiency
I was told I was calcium and vitamin D deficient about six months ago; supplementation got the calcium up to normal range, but even though I was taking vit D at 2000iu daily, it remained deficient. I have boosted the D to 3000 iu. Don't take my word for it but I believe the FDA last week suggested MD recomended dosages for supplementation have been too low and could be boosted to 10,000iu daily. Did anyone else catch that? For what it's worth, I think I have a good D3 supplement; its certainly convenient: Ddrops. As the name implies, it is in the form of drops (1000iu per drop).

Re: Vitamin D deficiency
The American Academy of Pediatrics is recommending that the RDA of vitamin D for children be raised from 200 IU to 400 IU, which is the RDA for adults. A key researcher in the field said that adults could easily take 800-1000 IU per day.
Note: 1 IU of Vitamin D is the biological equivalent of 0.025 μg (0.025 microgram (mcg)) cholecalciferol/ergocalciferol. So the recommended doses in mcg are:
RDA = 10mcg
Maximum dose = 25mcg/day (as per leading researcher) This amount is contained in many bottled D3 supplements.

I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

Re: Vitamin D deficiency
The WHI study on vitamin D only administered 400 i.u. per day of vitamin D, not enough IMHO to do diddle.
Please see the Vitamin D Council site. There is lots of research there, and as you'll see they recommend around 5,000 iu (125mcg) daily if one usually avoids the sun. Using sunscreen blocks vitamin D.

Re: Vitamin D deficiency
Now Vit D3 shortage is linked to multiple sclerosis:

Re: Vitamin D deficiency
Just wanted to post a data point .After taking vitamin D from Nov 2009 (1000 IU until Jan 2009 and 2000 IU daily every day since then), my vit D score went from 22 to 34 in Aug 2009. However, I have not seen any correlation between pain decrease and vitamin D. The pain decrease has mostly been due to levosulpiride since if I stop it, the pain marginally increases. I am stil continuing with vitamin D hoping ot increase score to 50 just ot see if it makes a difference
