Intro

I'm age 43 living in So Cal and 10 months ago my prostate inflamed/enlarged/burning and started having to urinate every 5 minutes of the day, waking up 2 or 3 times a night to go as well. Uncomfortable at work to sit in chair, lower back tension/pain.

Went to Uro he did all the usual test mri, urine samples, prostate massage once, psa tests and can't find anything wrong except prostate is enlarged. Tried to bladder muscle relaxer drug that didn't help.

He put me on Cipro antibiotics and told me that it would normally flame out over time. Here we are 9 months later and every time I try to get off antibiotics the symptoms come back even stronger. I realize that I need to get off the Cipro or bigger problems will present themselves so I'm at a turning point.

I work out 3 times a week, I'm burning the candle at both ends with work/family schedule and not really doing any diets yet and still drinking coffee.

Just started taking prostate optimizer, pumpkin seed oil and nettle.

Questions--I read headache in the pelvis but before I spend the 4k trip to Sonoma, wanted to know if there was any other supplements you guys have found helpful or what are these push down pelvis exercises/pelvis relaxing stretching methods you talk about, or any diets helpful????

Out of ideas

Thx

I'm just another sufferer here - but I'd suggest:
Cut the intensity level of your workouts in half (atleast).
Put out one end of the candle...very important.
Begin to take a relaxed long hot bath everyday...if you have access to a hot tub use that instead.
Definitely drop coffee - including all caff & carbonated beverages.
No alcohol for now.
Drink more water (early in the day).
Read the section in HITP regarding RSA breathing and practice it.
Start the Brocolli Broth therapy and follow it exactly. https://ucpps.men
See how you feel after a few weeks of this.
Good luck my friend.

Hi Rellis

Firstly coffee - bad bad bad!!! Will increase the frequency. Anything with caffeine in it, cut it out. As for your daily routine, try not to burn the candle at both ends, you need more YOU time, time to relax and chill. A long soak in a bath is good after work, try laying on a bed with headphones on and listening to relaxing music for half an hour while deeply breathing to relax the muscles and nerves. Avoid any fizzy drinks, beer etc. I found a glass of red wine very useful after work to help reduce the frequency as it relaxed me, some find it useful, some dont but try it and see.

Try taking 2 Prelief tablets with your food, and 2 before bed. These tablets take the acid out the food, acid which may irritate your bladder. Avoid spicy foods and acidic foods like citrus fruits. See if this has any impact on the frequency. Can you ignore the frequency feeling? I sometimes get frequency, which comes 5-10 mins after going, then annoys me for the next hour, but if I ignore it and not go to toilet, it passes and I can go for hours without going again.

Some believe the frequency is caused by trigger points and muscles, others believe its caused by the nerves, I guess there is no definitive answer, but relaxing should help, also i found some massage in the abs also helped me reduce my frequency. I would get a mains powered handheld massage tool (for your back) and press it into my abs, working them with it on vibrate for half an hour, and doing this every day for a few days I noticed the frequency reduce somewhat.

As for any accredited quercetin product I can't really comment. I tried it but it upset my stomach and gave me the runs so I can't take it, though I can happily take Quercetin on its own. Others hear have tried any accredited quercetin product and find it very useful so give it a go. I believe you can get a free sample by following a link on this site.
Age: 33 | Onset Age: 32 Initial Symptoms: Frequent urination Current Symptoms: The odd feeling of frequency but not much else Helped By: Not thinking about it, hot bath, red wine, light exercise, Bowen technique seems to help, getting on with my life Worsened By: catastrophic thinking, worrying things will get worse, feeling depressed, reading websites too often! Work! Sitting in work all day isn't good!! Current Progress : Since 1st Sept 08, no pain!!! :)

I am not a medical doctor. Please fill out your signature (click here) ☼ ☼ My Starter List for new members
I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

Just to clarify the broccoli therapy suggestion. Highly concentrated ACTIVE Quercetin enzymes live in that plant and it will not cause stomach upset - https://ucpps.men
It also has many other healthy benefits for males.
Hope you're feeling a bit better.

rellis update

Post by rellis »

Just wanted to check in/progress report with you guys and thank you for all the help and directing me towards a local PT.

I've been off AB for 60 days now , seeing Chrissy Morgan PT in San Clemente once a week (Calguy referral). Doing internal trigger point therapy each visit and doing 6 or 7 external stretches to strengthen and stretch certain pelvis and hip muscles . Has me doing these stretches at home every other day. PT said my hips muscles were really tight too. Initial internal work was painful but the last 4 visits are getting less painful.

I just got back from Mammoth Mountain (6 hour drive) and was able to only stop twice to piss and the golf ball perineum thing is 80% better. Snowboarding didn't aggravate anything either.

Two months ago I couldn't sit down in a chair for longer than 10 minutes and I had to piss every 10 minutes (mentally every 5 ). Today, I'm waking up once a night to piss, in the day time going going every hour or two and the golf ball feeling has improved about 80%. Golf ball feeling worsening after about 7 days and then internal work relieves tension again.

Here's what I've eliminated so far:
  • staying tuned into the market all day and night sitting in my office chair
  • diet cokes - this was more difficult than the coffee
  • coffee
  • sodas
  • motocross racing
  • I'm experimenting with exercise (gym) right now but I'm trying to stay away from heavy lifting and the bike
  • marital problems- I'm either gonna do therapy and try to make it right or move on.

My immune system was so weak after being on Ciphro for 10 months that I caught that headcold/bronchitis shit and had it for a month- I've been hibernating sick seems like forever so getting sick was prolly a blessing and helped me change some things.

These are helping me: thx Calguy and Carl
  • eating better
  • meditation 20 min am and 20 min pm
  • jacuzzi's whever the golf ball pain tightness starts up
  • Staying sort of detached to my work trying to remind myself to relax more throughout day.
I haven't rode motocross in 7 weeks and planning on going out this weekend to practice and experiment to see if anything flairs up. I realize the racing part adds anxiety/fear to my life so I'm gonna see if the riding/practice can be done w/o the extra anxiety from race mode.

What a self awareness journey this last year has been. I know a lot you guys suffered longer than a year before finding this site or anything that helped reduce the pain so I feel grateful to be on track/improving after a year of suffering.

Thx Randy

Way to go Randy and glad you are improving. Stick with the program and try not to get depressed if you have little set backs. Glad Chrissy could help, we are lucky to have PT so close who understands this condition. I would say give motorcross a try but my buds who ride say it beats your body up pretty bad so take it easy. You are still on road to recovery so maybe giving yourself some more time before you go all out again would be wise. I just started running gain for the first time in over a year and a half and I feel pretty good. I am experimenting with Elavil so will keep you posted how it works. Take it easy and glad you are improving. :-D
Age 32, onset 32 Onset Aug 07- frequency was main problem in the beginning-really bad. Now 1 to 2x per night when frequency flairs up. Sore and tight lower abdominal muscles. Occasional burning after bowel movement and full feeling. What helps: Healthy diet(this is huge for me) Started drinking super greens supplament and almost going totally vegetarian to get body more alkaline, starting Prosta-Q, quercetin/zinc tablet in morning helped frequency problem I believe. Massaging abs and doing stretches helps calm down frequency when it is acting up. Wine or vodka after long day. Flexeral and melatonin at night. Swimming and light weights. .5 of Elavil every other day helps with frequency and healing process. Trying to stay positive and not stressing over this!

Glad to hear your feeling better.

I just wanted to add that quitting coffee was killer for me. I was a coffee whore. I still went to the gym, but only walked the treadmill for a few weeks. A major buzzkill... it worked for my recovery though. I also went easy on the hot sauce while I ate.

I still drink a lot of alcohol and that hasn't changed. I'm not thinking alcohol is trigger for me.
Age: 31 Onset Age: 30 Symptoms: Dull pain in what I think is the prostate. Tingling in the perineum. Mild shooting pains in the penis. Burning/itching feeling in/around anus. Penis sometimes is very cold. Burning urination along with some drip issues. Mild pain in lower abdomen and back. Feet also tingle and/or have pain. Diagnosis: GP and Uro chronic prostatitis; 2nd Uro says Pudendal Neuralgia Helped By: hot baths, exercise, ejaculation, Preparation-H Worsened By: riding a bike, sitting, tobacco, and maybe spicy food?

Alcohol is one of those things that differs from one sufferer to the next. It's a natural muscle relaxant, so it helps some guys. Others find that it causes irritation/frequency.

Everything in moderation, I suppose.
I am not a physician. This is not medical advice. Consult your doctor!

Age: 26 Onset Age: 17 Symptoms: Shooting, nerve-like pains throughout the penis, which abruptly hit and leave. Testicular pain, perineum pain, burning/irritative urination, extended pain after ejaculation. Occasionally, some allodynia or ache in the coccyx/sacrum/thigh/buttocks/legs. Diagnosis: Pelvic floor dysfunction, degenerated lumbar disk, and mildly herniated lumbar disk. Helped By: Physical therapy, pain management doctor, hot baths, therapy pool, stretching regimen, breathing exercises, relaxation, distraction. Worsened By: Arousal/ejaculation (worst), constipation, panicking/obsessing, other triggers depend upon current symptoms. Tests/Prior Treatments: Too many antibiotics to count, multiple urine tests (all normal), testicular ultrasound (normal), bladder and renal ultrasound (normal), lumbar and pelvic MRI with and w/o contrast (revealed disk problems), Elavil 25mg (caused retention), Flomax 0.4mg.

Yeah Jay, I'm not much for moderating always full throttle. I need to learn to go easy

Housemzk-I noticed your handel! Are you a house head? LOL -You still mixing?

I still have about 10 crates of 12 inch house music from DJing - 1995 to 2000.

I went a little deep into the underground afterhours Hollywood scene mixing that house music. So Alcohol and drugs are off limits for me. I still listen to the mixes though.

Hey Rellis,
I wish you luck riding again.
I've been afraid to ride ever since I've had this.
No snowmobiling, no cross country skiing - none of that.
If you do well - you'll give me hope.
I am/was a big part of the underground music scene here in Chicago.
I'm noticing a pattern of Musical, Artistic, Thrillseekers on the board.
That is so interesting.
Take care...
