Post by papichullini »

Anyone knows What is Adollynia Hyperalgesia? That is treated by Neuromodulation? Occording to the diagram seen in a post before... :alert:
Age:24 | Onset Age:20 | Symptoms: Urgency, Pelvic tension, Prostate enlargement, burning feeling, etc. . . | Helped By: Antibiotic (I suppose), resting, cranberry juice (maybe), stretching, reading about the problem, supplements, D-mannose (i think..) | Worsened By: anxiety, alcohol, salt (maybe), cigarettes, dry masturbation and something I don't know. . .

Hi,

You're asking about two different sensory problems that commonly occur with chronic pain.

Allodynia: This means that something which is normally not painful now feels painful to you. A relevant example would be guys (and ladies!) who can't tolerate underwear because it feels like sandpaper against their genitals. Underwear should not be painful, yet it feels that way. This is allodynia.

Hyperalgesia: This means that something which is normally a bit painful now feels far more painful than it should. For example, a pinprick which normally feels 3/10 painful now feels 6/10. This is an increased response to a pain stimulus, so it can often be avoided (unlike allodynia), but that can be very difficult to do.

Most people here have allodynia, since we generally feel pain with things that are not usually painful.

Age: 26 Onset Age: 17 Symptoms: Shooting, nerve-like pains throughout the penis, which abruptly hit and leave. Testicular pain, perineum pain, burning/irritative urination, extended pain after ejaculation. Occasionally, some allodynia or ache in the coccyx/sacrum/thigh/buttocks/legs. Diagnosis: Pelvic floor dysfunction, degenerated lumbar disk, and mildly herniated lumbar disk. Helped By: Physical therapy, pain management doctor, hot baths, therapy pool, stretching regimen, breathing exercises, relaxation, distraction. Worsened By: Arousal/ejaculation (worst), constipation, panicking/obsessing, other triggers depend upon current symptoms. Tests/Prior Treatments: Too many antibiotics to count, multiple urine tests (all normal), testicular ultrasound (normal), bladder and renal ultrasound (normal), lumbar and pelvic MRI with and w/o contrast (revealed disk problems), Elavil 25mg (caused retention), Flomax 0.4mg.

Hi there,

Neuromodulation is the relief of pain through electrical stimulation. There are several forms of this, such as TENS machines or spinal cord stimulator implants. The idea is that the electrical current confuses the nerve and "scrambles" the pain signals being sent along it.

It doesn't work for everyone, but I've heard good things about TENS from some folks.

So this kind of treatment is basicly just to relief the pain. Is not a treatment for our condition it-self.

And do you know what "CNS sensitization" means? :?:

thanks :)
