Internal PT
I'm trying to ween off my dependency on my PT---who's great but expensive here in NY---but I have a hard time doing the internal work on my own. Any suggestions? My fingers can't move very much and I don't seem to find more than one or two trigger points. Would using a dilator or a pencil (not the sharp end!
) in a lubricated glove be more beneficial?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Internal PT
If you want to do it on your own, get one of the tools others have recommended.
Note: first enrol at Stanford if you can afford it. They teach you how to do this without injuring yourself.

Re: Internal PT
Hi,
My PT gave me some spare vaginal dilators, which she normally has for her female PFD patients. They are about the width of her finger but offer more length and leverage. You might try asking your PT if she has any to spare, or for tools she might suggest. There are also some available in the site's Amazon store.
I would advise caution when using a tool. You don't have the same tactile awareness and need to monitor where and how much you apply pressure. Don't want to injure yourself. :) As Webslave says, getting lessons (from your PT or Stanford) would be a wise start.

Re: Internal PT
Thanks for the quick feedback.
I, of course, am very careful when dealing with the internal PT. How could I possibly injure myself? I'd hate to do more harm than good. Anything specifically to be careful of?
Thanks!

Re: Internal PT
YIKES! None of that sounds good. As I said, I'm certainly very careful and still not really thrilled about having to do this kind of PT (whether it's me trying at home or my physical therapist). I'm sure it will become less of a big deal and I'll get over it soon enough.
Has anyone on the forum injured themselves attempting internal PT? Is it safe to say that if I'm not "vigorous" as the article put it that I'll probably be okay?
I do NOT want to do more harm than good, especially since, as I said, the internal work is still very unpleasant.

Re: Internal PT
AFAIK, nobody has actually injured themselves, that they have admitted here anyway. But the rectum is a delicate area. The rectal lining is only paper thin and can be perforated easily (think of the skin on a frankfurter).

Re: Internal PT
On the link webslave provided, the middle one, the slender 7 (gotta love that name), has been a lifesaver and my final piece of my puzzle. I spend many days now symptom free and no urinary symptoms to speak of. On days I overdo it in the gym, occurs often, lol, I tighten for a bit, bath, relax with some tv and I'm good again, I suspect over time this will pass too.
If it weren't for that tool I would not be where I am. After the SP I knew where the triggers were but kept using my fingers. The problem with using your own finger is that I couldnt relax while doing internal work I was always stressing so it could never relax, with this tool I know my spots, I hit them, the muscle convulses in little pulses, relaxes and I'm good, very little discomfort of pain.
A MUST have.

Age:29 | Onset Age: 25.5 | Symptoms: Initially burning in prostate/perineum, burning in urethra, uncontrollable muscle contraction before urinating, dual ache in groin, left testicle pain, feeling of golf ball in rectum, soarness in rectum, and muscle spasms, now mainly very mild urinary tract inflammation, burning mildly after ejaculation, some days after physical activity involuntary mild muscle contraction before urinating | Helped By: .5 mg of Ativan, Aleve (naproxen), quercetin, alcohol in large quantities (vodka and soda), stretching, walking, internal massage the perineum area and levators. | Worsened By: sitting, weightraining, jogging, coffee, caffeine in general, alcohol bothered me at first, overdoing sex

Re: Internal PT
I'm hesitant to purchase anything from a manufacturer with a name like "Swedish Erotica," but I'll eventually grow up.
Of course, I was hesitant to have someone stick their fingers up my butt to stretch out tightened muscles, but I eventually got over it. I'm not a homophobe or at any way uncomfortable with sexuality, but it took me a while.
Have you ever been caught with that little device? I'm curious how you would explain it.

Getting caught?? My wife said if someone finds mine that they would think it's hers...I said I can go along with that. If the slender 7 is my competition...I win!!Caiaphas wrote:

I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

Re: Internal PT
hello Guys,
While I was doing some internal massage with my fingers I found some dots/points/small balls that burn when pressed and do some kind of palpitation/pulsation. Is that what you call the trigger points? Are this points supposed to be pressed or extended?
Is there any device that you can put hot water inside, so that it helps to relax the muscles. . . I think that would be the best for us. . .
Since I'm reading this forum, when I get all the pieces of the puzzle for this disorder together, I get to the point that I believe this is a Anxiety/tension disorder that advances to an inflammation, that is in a delicate place, thats why it is so hard to get rid off. . . that is what you all also believe I suppose.
I'm planning to take a month to attack this condition with a programme where I am going to target the inflammation, muscles tension, etc. . at the same time. I really believe that is going to help me. I'm just worried that my anxiety is going to turn the healing difficult. I'm still anxious because of relationship issues. . . I hope that does not turn the healing impossible. Another thing that bothers me, is after I'm healed, if I will always have the anxiety of have a flare up, once that occurred me before. When I'm ok, I have Also the strange feeling of not having any pain, once this pain gets to a point it makes part of us. Did that happened with you before? Thanks for all the tips and support, I admire y all.
peace and hope

Re: Internal PT
Dr. Wise has developed a wand intended for internal Pt. In order to be able to acquire the wand, you need to enrol in the Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol and they need to determine that you are a candidate for their trial. I have found it to be the only device that allows me to consistently reach my internal trigger points. In fact, after a few months with the wand I think I'm much better at hitting my trigger points than any of the many physical therapists I've worked with over the years. I eventually think the wand will be part of the standard treatment for CPPS.

If you can go to the standford protocol and get your hands on the wand device developed by dr. wise, i would highly recommend it. I've tried many deviced over the years and the device he developed is much better than anything you can get on amazon or from a sex shop.Ausie wrote:So at the end of the day after viewing several devices at Amazon which shape or device is found to get the best results
