Amazon Store for recommended products/books etc

Post by webslave »

Edit 2019: Amazon closed all stores in 2017. Sorry

I have set up an Amazon store to collect together some of the items recommended in this forum over the years.

Please add your suggestions for book or CD or massage implement or whatever to this thread. Thanks!

Please note: from 2014 I closed this site's Amazon account (to simplify tax reporting requirements) and no further revenue is derived from our Amazon Store. We have left it up there purely to aid our members.

Do we need to put a hyperlink to the product or simply list what it is?

Also - upon your review, will you add appropriate products to the Amazon store?

P.S. I think this is a great idea!!

Simply list it, and yes, I shall add it to the store if it's helpful.

I am considering the purchase of the "Cush Tush" from the Amazon Store. Has anyone out there purchased one of these cushions and which one would you recommend for a 200 lb man?

Thanks

Hi 2Travelers,

In the product description on Amazon, the manufacturer itself suggests the Firm TushCush for men who weigh 200lbs+. Hope this helps!

Thanks Jay

Before I buy the Tush Cush, my wife has a 2"x18"x14" hard foam splash board that she uses in the pool. She suggested I cut out a portion for my perineum and see if that works. If it works I won't have to buy the Tush Cush. I'm a little skeptical, but hey, if it works.....will let you know

Thanks again

Hi Jay

Just wanted you to know the "splash board" worked perfectly. I cut out a portion similar to what Webslave illustrated in his post. And the price was right.

I've just started reading this book, and it seems like it might be valuable for people dealing with CPPS:

"Living Beyond Your Pain: Using Acceptance & Commitment Therapy to Ease Chronic Pain"
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/157224 ... ag=cp58-20

So far I'm taking it with a grain of salt (the authors seem to be rather down on standard medical interventions like drugs, which is not a position I agree with), but I do like the distinction they make between pain and suffering, and, as the authors state, the book addresses "the suffering caused by your pain, not the pain itself."

I purchased 3 books on Amazon today, mainly aimed at honing my self-treatment skills:

-the latest version of AHIP since my copy is version 2 and I am looking forward to the new additions and diagrams of trigger points.
Based on the summary, the updates should be worth the double investment. Fingers crossed.
-The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook: Your Self-Treatment for Pain Relief (Trigger Point Therapy Workbook: Your Self-Treatment Guide for Pain Relief) by Clair Davies - this one is on the recommended list
-Trigger Point Self-care Manual: For Pain-free Movement by Donna Finando. This one apparently isn't on the list.
One user had this say: ''Good diagrams to indicate painful areas and the correcting muscles and page numbers at the end of the book. I also have the Trigger point therapy work book by Claire Davies. This book by Donna Finando is not only clearer BUT gives clear instruction (with diagrams) on how to locate the muscles and then how to stretch the muscles. This is very important in my view, if the muscle has been in spasm for a period, it needs to be stretched. Just working on the trigger points is not enough. "

I will let you guys know after I've read through them.

I bought the book : Heal Pelvic Pain by Amy Stein.

Does somebody knows this book? Is it good compared to A Headache in the Pelvis ?

I have a copy. Not very helpful and if I remember correctly, more biased towards female. Does not compare to A HEADACHE IN THE PELVIS.

Thanks,

Ok thank you Atma... Yes its seems to be more for females, but I had pain reduction with the stretches in this book.

I ordered A HEADACHE IN THE PELVIS.. I can't wait to read it.

The Amy Stein is good. I don't think this is ALL TP's that is way too simple. She has very good discussions in that book. Yes huge chunks are more for women but so is A HEADACHE IN THE PELVIS! Don't miss out both are on kindle and can be read in a weekend.

I'm wondering how well the photos of the exercises in Amy's book translate to Kindle. I have the paperback and I like that there are photos of models doing the stretches. Very Helpful!!

They are good enough on kindle. The iPad kindle app version is much better than the paperback you can zoom in. The kindle is not as good as paper IMO but it is perfectly visible on the reader I have. The newer kindles I would assume are even better. That is what A HEADACHE IN THE PELVIS misses sketches don't cut it in 2012. I don't have the latest edition so correct me if they have added photograph now. Combine both you have a number of good stretches. But really just google stretching and you will end up seeing them all on sports and fitness sites in even better and full HD video quality. Just have your books ready and compare. I bet most people are botching at least a few of them if just seeing them in a book!

Example on why video is better both books touch on skin rolling and make a total hash of it because it simply does not translate well into words. If you see it done you think oh is that all that is...I use skin rolling I am huge fan of that but I had to see a PT do it to grasp it.

One of us should do stretches properly and upload it to you tube. ;)
