My doctor says that much of prostatitis is nerve pain and suggested b vitamin complex. I find that my prostate get really irritated
from the b50 mg . The doc says that as the nerves heal I will find it less painful. Anyone have any experience with B vitamins.

Re: b complex vitamins
I'm very interested in responses to this - I have heard that the B-Vitamins are very very good.
Does this mean a MULTI-VITAMIN would work or do you need specifically to get B's??

I wonder about this, too. I take B 12 sometimes, but it's hard to tell if it works. I haven't taken a multivitamin since I started having symptoms because i'm concerned about the acid content.
Age: 28 | Onset Age: 26 Symptoms: Started out with moderate pain on left side and tip of penis, plus urgency/frequency issues. These symptoms went away by 75% with time and PT. Current symptoms are pain in glutes, abdomen, and the area where the thigh meets the buttocks (?) Also, fatigue. Helped By: Lots of water, Prelief with acidic foods, hot baths, Naproxen or Ibuprofen, Elavil 25mg daily, Diazepam 2mg as needed, PT (weekly), Crystal Wand use on external TP's, stretching, walking backwards on treadmill. Worsened By: Pressure on abdomen - I unbuckle my belt a lot, which helps when sitting and driving. Sitting and driving, physical labor, caffiene.

I am still finding the b complex to be very irritating and have not noticed an improvement in pain levels. A multivitamin
has never really irritated my prostate.

Ianlib-
Could you elaborate a little more on what your doctor suggested regarding B vitamins? Possibly amount to take and what type?
Thanks!

Re: b complex vitamins
Vitamin B-6 is also known as pyridoxine, and is a problematic vitamin supplement for IC patients. Pyridoxine is notorious among IC suffers for causing bladder symptom flares.
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

Best suggestion here is to go get your blood tested by your doc. Ask for a "vitamin panel" including all of the B's, C, Folic Acid, D. Throw in A and E if you can.
Anything in the 25% quartile of normal (low-end) is suspect per Dr Travell's books on Myofascial pain.
For me, my B7 was non-existent, B12 was low-normal, B5 was low. This despite taking a One-A-Day for Men for years. Turns out that any pill that is labeled as "time-delay action" or is hard (like concrete) is worthless. Your body doesn't dissolve them so they pass out in your waste. Find vitamins that are "vegetable capsule" based from a very reputable manufacturer (talk to your doc). But don't experiment, go get tested.
Once I started on a good quality multi-vitamin, that included B-7, within 4 weeks my hair color started to come back (brown). I had gone prematurely gray about 15 years ago. Wife freaked, so did my hairstylist. Gray hair can be caused by lack of B-7 (biotin).
If you are low, it can take 4-6 mos for levels to build up with some of the vitamins like B-12.
