Power Yoga...

Post by carld »

Hello every one...

I can't really explain how helpful power yoga has been in my over all recovery both mentally and physically. I have done power yoga on and off for 15 years and this past month...I dedicated my self to stay consistent with it. I find it ironic, that I have always said to charge hard in a relaxed way. That's exactly what power yoga is. I'm grateful... :-D

Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

I can only gauge my experience with how power yoga has helped me...Pelvic myoneuropathy would seem to be greatly helped by the mental and physical benefit from yoga.

I remember at my worst in the summer of 2006 with my perineum on fire 24/7...There were multiple times that I did power yoga (Bryan Kest) and I had no symptoms during my work out. I couldn't figure this out and this was before I heard of this site and learned about pelvic myoneuropathy and SP. Now it makes perfect sense why I benefit from the intense stretching, holding the poses and breathing freely through my nose and doing it calmly. I was and still believe I was releasing TP's and easing the anxiety and breaking the cycle of pain and tension. I wish I stuck it out back then.

Now that I'm back in full throttle...There have been days I come home with a slight pinch in the perineum and as I do the power yoga...The symptom melts away.

I have a belief that my condition comes from anxiety, stress ( clenching the pelvic muscles for years, masturbating looking at those free big tit websites  ) ,eating wheat and gluten every day my whole life.

The yoga addresses those muscles that are injured from all of that and the relaxation and calmness I get from it is also working at addressing the tight muscles. It's really a perfect match for me. I encourage any man that's walked down my dark path to give it a try.

It's no coincidence that every suffering poster here has at one time or another stated that they in general feel better on vacation and holidays...Connect the dots...

There you have it...my opinion...Now do some power yoga and enjoy life to the fullest...

I've been doing yoga fairly regularly for a while now. Power yoga (are you talking about Vinyasa?) is hard on me and gives me back pain similar to what I've heard Sciatica is like. However, I am EXTREMELY inflexible and a lot of it is very difficult for me. Did you have an increase in pain or a different kind of pain at first? I am just wondering if I should keep going and that this pain is actually necessary at first to heal.

Thanks for your input!

I modify my poses to my degree...That's the key to it. I avoid most bending back poses. I modify the "cobra" pose to my degree to stretch the abs...A huge benefit to my CP/CPPS is to get those abs stretched.

I at this point have not had any pelvic pain from power yoga.

I also want to second the yoga option. It doesn't seem to aggravate my symptoms, though I seem to be a bit different than most in that nothing in particular seems to aggravate them (tried elimination diets, change in behaviors, etc). In my case they just stay come rain or shine. I took almost 4 months off doing anything, and nothing really changed. Two of three of my PTs (Tim Sawyer being one of the two) and three of my docs (all major folks in chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome - rather not name names, but they're all on many of the articles published about this disease) said that as long as it doesn't aggravate your symptoms, its better to do something like yoga to keep your mood up, your stress down, and you blood flowing. So go for it folks, and see what happens - worst thing is you stop and go back to not doing it.

After hearing that yoga was the cureall for IBS as well as other chronic conditions and has helped a lot of posters here, I decided to give it a try. I began a 30 day Moksha yoga challenge. After day 22 I had to throw in the towel; while I felt good immediately after, my IBS symptoms went through the roof and I was completely unable to defecate. While SP theory and my own physiology (abdominals riddled with TP's) suggest I should be stretching my abs, the cobra pose in particular has always exacerbated my symptoms. How exactly did you modify it?

I thought the hot yoga would help me to loosen the trigger points and stretch but things only got worse. Also there was far too much core work which perhaps I should have avoided but is hard to do when you are in an instructor led class.

Popburner-

I'm like you in that I've never been able to exactly figure out what causes the problem. Stress, heavy exercise like running, and long periods of sitting/standing make things worse for sure, but as far as more subtle things.....I have no idea. Thus, if makes it difficult to figure out what's okay and what's not.
