Does Quercetin prolong the recover from viral infects?

Post by consuli »

I am taking quercetin for one year now. It is exactly as garyholc says. 500 mg work for 1 - 2 hours only. So I am taking 8x 500mg + 8x 200mg (stomach acid resistant) bromelain (enzyme from pineapple) per day. It works pretty well for prostatitis. And it is still effective for me.

First I did not recognize it, but I get much more easily colds and other viruses now! I just got the hand-foot-mouth disease, which is quite a weak virus, so that usually only small children get it. When I stopped taking quercetin, it went off within 2 days.

So I am coming to conclusion, that it may be better, to stop quercetin during viral effects. I think, it is anti inflammatory and so partly suppresses the immune system.

Bye

Unfortunately, while bioflavonoids like quercetin are remarkably good for you at low doses, they are not necessarily so at massive doses. As the ancients advised, moderation in all things. I would not take that much quercetin myself.
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

It would be helpful, if someone brought retarded quercetin onto the market. With a stabilized drug level one would need much less. From my point of view the fast clearance is the biggest problem in the professional pharma use of quercetin.

I believe 500mg is around the same amount as that in a any accredited quercetin product capsule, and you take 2-3 of them a day. So far I am finding 1 tablet enough for me a day, if I had to take more, I would not go above 1500mg dose a day (3 tablets). 8 tablets seems too excessive and may lead to future complications.

So you can be glad.

I wouldn't take 8 per day, if got along with three. They work only for maximal 2 hours.

It sounds to me like quercetin is helping your symptoms but maybe not solving the underlying condition. Especially if you've already been on it for a year and taking that massive dose and haven't seen any solid improvement. Maybe it would be worthwhile looking into other treatment options?

Another thing you might try is cutting each pill up, and taking less at one time. In other words, maybe you don't need 500mg at once to work, but can take 250mg (half a pill) every two hours.

So far, the underlying condition of prostitis is not known, respectively just in a very rough sense. So your thesis cannot be backtestet at all.

But it is true. Quercetin is no final solution. Nevertheless probably one of the best treatments we have got so far to make symptons bearable.
