Good Results

Post by hollandmcg »

I have probably had chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome for 15 years with varying symptomatology over that course in time. Back 10 or 11 years I had an 18 month bout of what was diagnosed as "chronic prostatitis" that was very debilitating. I like many of you suffered from day to day with urinary tract complications, frequency, and at times anguishing pain. I was also in an airplane every day logging about 200,000 miles that year which just added to my condition. Eventually, everything resolved although it was an episode in life I will never forget. I was on antibiotics for months and eventually underwent TUMT all with minimal success.

Some 5 years later I had a recurrence but of shorter duration, 6-8months, without the degree of complication. This episode to eventually resolved itself although my treatment was very traditional with antibiotics and muscle relaxants.

Now on to today. Last September I took a long bike ride after several years of avoiding a bike seat. Within a week I was in immense pain with urethritis and pain and ultimately was diagnosed with a recurrence of chronic prostatitis. This problem continued to build until February/March of this year when I had a full blown attack with all of the symptoms we like to forget.

My pain was amazing along with the feeling of a golf ball in the rectum and the constant nagging pain. I could not sit, my back was always hurting and worse yet I could not think or concentrate. Sometime after my kids spring break in April I finally discovered the Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol. This information wasn't available 10 or 11 years ago when I read everything under the sun on the topic.

I started out giving myself internal trigger point release and combining it with massage therapy and stretching. I also used a breathing technique for relaxation therapy to try and capitalize on all aspects of the protocol. My initial internal trigger points were very active and at times almost knocked me over. I have very active external triggers as well including all of the gluteus muscles, adductors, periformis, hamstring, psoas and abdominal muscles. My complete pelvic floor and surrounding muscles were out of whack.

After two weeks with the protocol all of the symptoms and inflammation surrounding my prostate were gone. I received benefit almost after day one of the trigger point release. I was very aggressive and did internal release 2-3 times a day and external release 3 times a week. I stretched 2 hours a day and did relaxation twice a day. I also practiced the moment by moment relaxation as much as possible. It was a regular part time job but the results were amazing.

I am a very active person and work out daily so I have had to make changes. My muscles are still very sore so I have been swimming instead of running or using elliptical machines as they seem to aggravate my condition. Tomorrow will be the start of week 4 of the protocol and all of my internal triggers are gone. I still have external pain points but they are much better. I will meet with a trainer this week to discuss strengthening my pelvic muscles.

Since I have had chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome so long I was not afraid to jump right in and try the protocol. It is amazing that this may be a musculoskeletal problem all along and that by aggravating the levator ani muscles that the prostate becomes inflamed to the degree it does. For me the levator ani was so tight it was more like a guitar string when I started the trigger point release. Today it is difficult to palpitate.

While I understand that the actual genesis of the problem may be different in each of us and that there may be complicating factors the protocol has done wonders in assisting with alleviating my discomfort and pain. Additionally, I think my sexual health may be the best it has been in many months.

I understand that the protocol is not a replacement for medical advice and treatment so I am not encouraging people to not seek medical advice. I would, however suggest that this approach is very beneficial and I look forward to following up with the folks at Stanford to become more knowledgeable about their work.

Best,
Sam

Sam, did you attend the Stanford clinic? If not, how did you learn to locate and release your internal trigger points? What aid did you use to do this? Welcome, and thanks for sharing your story.

Hi Neis:

I have not attended the Stanford Clinic although I would like to learn more about it. I ordered the book and reviewed it and was able to do the work on my own. I have had some experience palpating the prostate so on my left side I was able to hit all of the muscles with a little effort. I did not realize there were so many spots and some were very active. My right side was a bit more difficult and actually used my left hand and a narrow anal probe. My right side had lots of very active trigger points because I had never really tried this side.

If you follow the book and go slow you can find the muscle groups with effort. Its a lot tougher for me, honestly on my right side but it seems to have worked. I purchased the anal probe at a local adult shop and they did not have anything quite like I have seen on the website but improvised based on what they had available.

Thanks,
Sam
