The redness and irritation is a good indicator of an allergy or food intolerance. I have the same thing Burning anus after a bowel movement and passing urine during this time after I have eaten certain foods like spicy foods and mucus/congestion in my nose after I eat lots of pasta and so forth. So I think your on to something here. Also remember that the nerves are all connected down there and everything is so close that I think in my case, I can at times get this discomfort after a bowel and passing urine as well and certain foods causing the redness in my anus...How do I know it's red....My wonderful Wife will spread the old cheeks and take a look down there for me...( True love here)
I went ahead and bought the book Mark suggested...I have always believed there is a food connection with my case and when I did my wheat and gluten cut down, I experienced great improvement in symptoms and slowly brought back wheat and noticed more irritative days...We talked about this on the phone a few months ago bro....and I think Mark is spot on with CP/CPPS and an allergy connection.

Got my results today and the doc found a parasite.

Two confirmed blood test should reveal a third. In all probability got them while in India. Testicle pain started in 11/05 butt burn in 5/06 at the end of my trip. If it's chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome could be a matter of the butt burn just starting 6 months later or the two are not related at all... I find out Monday or Tuesday what the story is.

I've seen 4 surgeons.
2 could not find anything.
1 who specializes in hernias told me that I have a bilateral reducible inguinal hernia.
The problem is I went to see her while she was in the USA for a conference from Germany.
Her name is Dr. Ulrike Muschawek. I originally saw her under the premise that I may have a sports hernia, a.k.a., athletic pubalgia as she's the worlds foremost expert.
Well, she didn't find a sports hernia but found the bilateral reducible inguinal hernia.
I don't know how difficult it is for a general surgeon to detect a bilateral reducible inguinal hernia but I find it strange how two out of 4 doctors couldn't find anything and she could.
I am also leary, despite her credentials, to become part of the medical tourist trade as, from what I understand, if one were to have a procedure done outside the USA a doctor would not treat a person further. I could be wrong but in my search for others who have had chronic groin pain I found a website called letsrun.com where men who have had sports hernias and treated with surgery have found total relief.
Again, I picked up my wife in 11/05 felt a sharp pain in my lower left abdomen and several days later pain in the balls; First left for a few days then right. Pain has since subsided dramatically over the past couple of months but still bad enough to put a damper on my day.
The final surgeon I saw attended some of Dr. Mushawecks lectures here in the USA. Upon examination he said he saw "something' on the ultrasound of my lower left abdomen but nothing conclusive but willing to open me up and see what the problem is.
So between the urologists, general surgeons, infectious disease doctors, PT, Chiro, Accupuncturist and the various diagnosis of epididimytis, prostatitis, a possible elusive hernia and now parasites, well I just don't know what to do, where to go and how to get better...
All I know is I have burning after I defecate and during the course of the day the burning drops to a low level. The balls just ache but the ache comes and goes. Sometims I feel normal but those moments are brief. When I do manage to go out and try to live a normal life I'm distracted from the pain but still very much drained from dealing with perpetual discomfort during the majority of my waking hours. The pain typically is worse when I sit so I try to stand as much as I can at work.
I'm doing the best I can to try to keep it mentally together but it's not easy after having been in pain for so long. Back in the early days when the nutt pain was horrific, and I mean mind bendingly horrific, I had a more positive outlook as I believe "this too shall pass" but it hasn't despite the many modalities I've tried.
I'd like to think that I have this double reducible inguinal hernia and then contracted parasites that have been causing a good degree of irritation in my butt. That would be ideal and in theory curable.
Anyway this is where I'm at-short version of course so if anyone has any insight, it is always always appreciated.
I guess the bottom line is that there are all sorts of reasons why someone can have GU pain.

I was convinced I had a hernia too and nearly talked a surgeon into operating. He finally refused and said "Mark, keep away from surgeons." I think there's something in that for all of us.

I would normally agree but again, my groin pain all started after picking up my wife.
It was sudden and sharp and the pain soon after traveled from the lower abdomen to the groin.
I'm just trying to piece the puzzle together.
How dangerous would it be for a surgeon to open me up and check out my abdominals for tears and possibly this reducible inguinal hernia?

Far more likely than the 2 unlikely scenarios of a hernia and then a parasite infection would be you just have chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome symptoms. There have been so many exploring many unlikely compounding scenarios. There have been hemmorrhoidectomys, sphincterectomies, prostate removals, testicle removals, both buttocks lanced with the PNE surgery and god knows what else. Some of this is mentioned in A HEADACHE IN THE PELVIS.The urge for the magic bullet or procedure was strong in all of us, yielding, surgeons, and at the extreme Song and others.
If you have a job sitting 40 or 50+ solid hours a week, usually something staring at a CRT, combined with 10 or so hours of heavy recreational exercise, this is the pattern for most here. If you've struggled with this for about 2 years, and have only quit completely the heavy exercise for 5 months or so, you have much more relaxing and behavior modification at work etc to do. Trigger point work in the lower and transverse abs, daily for a lengthly period absent weights, biking and running and sports seems to be indicated for testicular pain. The painful ab spasm of a trigger point when lifting your wife may be indicative.
I don't know what kind of doctor you saw for the parasites, etc. I guess anything is possible with a trip to another country however the parasites usually responsible for troubles with trips to Mexico etc, are usually treatable. Strange parasites, sometimes chlamydia, candidiasis, etc are the mainstays of holistic, disreputable chiropractors and other quackish stuff.
With all the invasive procedures folks have gone thru, once you get into the hail mary stuff of having exploratory surgery looking for elusive hernias and such this is almost always the wrong road. Your symptoms are about the same as many others here. If you have to exhaust this possibility obviously get every sort of ultrasound and MRI available.
Age:43 | Onset Age:36 | Symptoms: First urinary and backside, golf ball feeling, now ok (no heavy exercise) . Major onset seemed to be with heavy coughing spell , felt "tearing" or nerve pain in rectum/prostate. | Helped By:Hot showers, sleep.Worsened By: Type A obsessiveness ... Stressing, what-if thinking, weights.
Not a doctor. -
The usual... anxiety prone programmer (my case), accountant, lawyer or self employed sitting 50 hrs/week combined with compulsively exercising on a bike, weights or running to compensate for stress. Also aka "graduate student syndrome" New email sigma556@hotmail
The foreign disease specialist I saw who suspected parasites tested me for strongyloidis and although the stool sample and mucus discharge from the anus is indicative of a parasite(s) the blood test could not confirm it.
My sister who is a vet went on a trip to mexico years ago with her fiancee.
He contracted a parasite but had to submit 7 stool samples before confirmation.
Regardless I've been put on flagyl, Cipro and a dewormer just in case...
After the script he is going to look me over and see how my bowel is.
Now getting back to the hernia problem.
I received a referral from my doc to consult a hernia specialist.
He confirmed the findings from the german doctor of a bilateral inguinal reducible hernia.
When I emailed him and asked why two other general surgeons couldn't match his and that of the german doctors findings his response was the following:
To answer your question, it is easy to tell you why the Dr. in Germany and I found the hernias. It is because they are really there, and can be identified and confirmed by experienced and trained specialists on a comprehensive examination. However, I cannot tell you why other physicians, including 2 general surgeons found nothing. Perhaps you should be asking them that question.
Thank You!
So despite the prostatitis diagnosis, the bilateral varicoceles (grade two on left and subclinical on right), epiditimytis diagnosis, hernia diagnosis it's hard for me to choose what move to make next.
I've had every scan that exist and everyone tells me the same damn thing-Nothing is found.
Not sure if the PT knew what she was doing but I had over 20 sessions and bought a wand to do the work myself and follow the instructions in HITP.
Here I am 2 years and 7 months later and despite the fact that I am better, much better I can't figure out why I'm still in pain. I mean I'm not dying like I was when the testicle pain first hit almost 3 years ago but living with constant low level pain that tends to rise and sometimes dissapear is just crazy; not knowing what my day will be like is just unfair or cruel or just plain not right.
I can't figure out after all the non surgical modalities I've tried, the phytotherapy, the antibiotics (in the beginning) and all the other stuff written in the thread, hasn't worked...
I want to be, like everyone else here, a success story to post in the forum.
My job has me sitting down a lot, which hurts and walking somewhat which is sometimes painful as the pain is exacerbated while walking after defication-not while sitting idle.
Super confused, hardly work out anymore and tired of living like a couch potatoe.
Insight is always appreciated.
Will update after the dynamic ultrasound.
Best,
Rufus
The only test I haven't had yet is a dynamic ultrasound which I'm getting at the hospital of special surgery next week. If they too say I have this hernia then I would think sugery should be a viable option

Hi Rufus,
I don't know much about hernias, but I wanted to offer my support. I hope that you can find a solution to your problems.
Personally, I would be a little wary of a doctor whose professional response is essentially "I found it because they're not as good as me." That may be true, but I'd want something more concrete before going under the knife. If the ultrasound can give you something to actually visualize the problem, then that sounds like a good move to me.
The only other thing I can think of is, have you only seen the one physical therapist? Your remark about 'not sure if she knows what she's doing' makes me think you're not entirely confident in her abilities. Maybe you could consider traveling to see one of the specialists, if you haven't already. They have a way of finding things other people miss.
Just some thoughts! Don't worry, I'm sure you'll get to post your success story one day, as will I!
I am not a physician. This is not medical advice. Consult your doctor!
