New diagnosis tool for pain:Skin biopsy

Post by Spasman »

Hi. I just want to post this from Boston. Perhaps in the future we could have skin biopsy as a diagnosis. In case it could help Dr. Dimitrakov in the development of a diagnosis for chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome I'm posting the link.

Skin biopsy for small-fiber sensory neuropathies:

It would be nice to have a tool like that to distinguish the types of pelvic pain. I would like to know if anyone have been there to evaluate their CPPS.

Small-fiber neuropathy is a peripheral nerve disease that most commonly presents in middle-aged and older people, who develop burning pain in their feet. Why would this have any relation to CPPS?

Hi Webslave. Well most of us have a burning sensation. Not in the feet but in the pelvic area. I find it interesting new diagnosis for pain. That's why I post it. We never know, it could be the way to diagnose other types of pain in the future. Again this is a new strategy against pain. I wish I could have a skin biopsy in my lower abdomen to understand if small fibers or nerves are affected. But them in Boston take it in the ankle.

A burning sensation in the skin of the feet is not quite the same as pain in the deep pelvic muscles and genitourinary tract, but I can sympathise with your desire for a quick diagnostic test (rather than diagnosis by exclusion, which is what we have at the moment).

Last year I request a pubic echography to find the source of the burning.I thought it could be easy since it is just under the skin. The radiologist said "I'll have to adjust the machine...it's just skin and then the pubic bone".

That's all he said so it might be the inside of the skin under the pubic hair then. :pensativo:

I doubt it. The source of pelvic pain is never on or near the skin, unless your case is very unusual.
