Glucosamine, MSM and Quercetin

Post by Sleeper Service »

This is doing the rounds on the IC boards just now as some sufferers have anecdotally had good results with it.

MSM = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methylsulfonylmethane

Has anyone here tried this particular combo?
Age 56: Onset 2006 and bouts on and off since then. See posts for details.

I think the above is a great combo - different supplements work differently on sufferers. I cured myself through supplements but I had to experiment - what worked and what didn't. Chrondroitin is another good one.

Well I started taking MSM. No effect so far. How much and what brand can have a big effect as far as I understand. Jamo I have looked at your postings but the quantity / brand is not clear. Can you please post.

Good to see that you have been helped by this

Take a look at this book. Amounts vary. My regime included more than MSM and a lot of it was trial and error. What works for one person may not work for another.

My understanding of this one supplement is that you need to take large amounts for certain conditions/pain levels you experience. Anything upto 2- 5 grams a day. There is also different qualities of MSM on the market and it is working out which is the better quality MSM's. I took a uk product from Holland and Barrat and it was fine and did the business.

I took 2-3 grams a day and started to feel a difference after about 4 days. I intially took MSM for my back pain and not CPPS, as i had already been pain free in that area for some time from using other supplements.

hope this helps!

Thanks jamo. Actually I was asking for the dosage not only for MSM but also for other supplements. I am already taking 2.5 g from source naturals (powder form). 3 weeks so far. No change in the level of pain

Glucosamine about 1,5 grams - quercetin about 2 grams - MSM 2.5 grams per day. The best thing I did was to change my diet and lifestyle with the supplements. I also saw a nutritionist who put me on the right track and he cleaned me out to of the junk that was inside me.

Hope this helps.

Thanks jamo. This is great. Supplements are a very tricky thing. Dosage (even time of dosage for absorption) should always be mentioned in the discussion about supplements, else the discussion loses its value IMHO.
The 'nutritonist' is another issue. I have been thinking of going to someone but no idea whom? How did you select a nutritionist.

I stumbled across him. I was doing some work for him and he could see that I was in discomfort, not just in the pelvic region but also the stomach (bowels). He did some tests which were very unique and diagnosed blocked bowels and cleaned me out. Everything slowly got better from that, but it took time. He was excellent mind! Put me on track with diet issue etc...

I think there's some evidence out there that Vit-C and/or bioflavanoids taken with MSM helps it work better. One I used to take included
Proprietary Citri-C Complex™ Blend Ascorbic acid, isoascorbic acid, citrus glycosyl flavones (cirantin, isosakuranetin- 7-beta-rutinoside, narirutin, eriocitrin, nobiletin, tangeretin, heptamethoxyflavone)
Haven't taken it in awhile(due to it being a MLM product), and couldn't tell you if it helped, as I was taken so many other things at the time. This thread has got me interested in it again though.

I guess this is part of why the other ingredients are good:
While MSM helps release toxins, vitamin C neutralizes them. While MSM helps to speed new cell formation, vitamin C is one of the primary nutrients the body looks for in making new cells.
Bioflavonoids are another part of the Cell Rejuvenator formula. They greatly enhance the absorption of vitamin C. Along with this, bioflavonoids help promote a strong immune system, improve circulation, and help maintain healthy cholesterol levels.

Cell Rejuvenator also includes zinc—one of nature's "super minerals." Zinc is responsible for accelerating healing and for the formation of DNA in our tissues. DNA is essentially the blueprint the body follows when forming and renewing itself, piece by piece, starting with each new cell.
That was from http://www.outletnutrition.com/875534000112.html

I'm looking for something like this with a good quality MSM, such as Lignisul MSM. Maybe this? http://arthritis-alternative.com/detail ... %20MSM.cfm

I should add: that last product mentioned, and maybe the others, can be found cheaper elsewhere.

The best place I've found to get supplements is i-Herb. They have a lot to choose from and their service is excellent. I get my products in two days just about every time.

I don't see that product there though. I see some of the other company's products there, so I wonder if they could get it.

They have a bunch of everything there. Do a search on anything in the subject area above and you'll find them. There is plenty to choose from and many of the supplements are reviewed too.
