Re: Having bad anxiety today
Very sorry to read about the passing of your Mother. Life is heavy, my thoughts are with you and your family at this very difficult time. This explains a lot in regards to increase in symptoms and anxiety. Hang in there.
I wouldn't be concerned about retention at 10 mg with Elavil. I never ever felt retention from the Elavil. I would pass urine anytime I felt the need to empty my bladder. You have done over active bladder meds, so you know that retention feeling just like I do when I tried those meds.
Best regards, Carld....

I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

Re: Having bad anxiety today
The passing of a significant person in your life is HUGE. Of course you are going to relapse. It's impossible to not feel stressed/tense/anxious. Give yourself time, lots of time, to go through the grieving process. Feeling what your feeling is perfectly normal and to be expected. I'm really sorry to hear about the passing of your mom. The relationship between a son and a mother is a very special thing. Give yourself plenty of time to emotionally and spiritually heal.

Re: Having bad anxiety today
Sorry to hear about the passing of your mum. When I went to see Bill Taylor last month, he said that he see's a large number of men with symptoms which have started to appear particularly after a death in the family. It would not be unreasonable given the current circumstances to seek some medication to help you cope with the loss and the sadness you must be feeling right now. It will take time, but you will start to get over this, and your symptoms will once again start to resolve, but for now, you must go through the natural process that everyone follows in such a sad situation, and to help you get through it, seek comfort from family and friends, your partner, and a little tablet will help you along the way.... best wishes, Gary.
Age: 33 | Onset Age: 32 Initial Symptoms: Frequent urination Current Symptoms: The odd feeling of frequency but not much else Helped By: Not thinking about it, hot bath, red wine, light exercise, Bowen technique seems to help, getting on with my life Worsened By: catastrophic thinking, worrying things will get worse, feeling depressed, reading websites too often! Work! Sitting in work all day isn't good!! Current Progress : Since 1st Sept 08, no pain!!! :)

Re: Having bad anxiety today
Thanks for all the words of support guys! I have been preparing for my mom to pass for some time now as she was battling breast cancer so I thought I had made my peace with it and thought I was handling fairly well...... just happy she is not suffering anymore. I could have some underlying anxiety that I am not aware of, definitely been on my mind and just adding to already tough anxious week. I will try the Elavil tonight and try and calm things down. Already feel better after PT today. Thanks again Guys!
Age 32, onset 32 Onset Aug 07- frequency was main problem in the beginning-really bad. Now 1 to 2x per night when frequency flairs up. Sore and tight lower abdominal muscles. Occasional burning after bowel movement and full feeling. What helps: Healthy diet(this is huge for me) Started drinking super greens supplament and almost going totally vegetarian to get body more alkaline, starting Prosta-Q, quercetin/zinc tablet in morning helped frequency problem I believe. Massaging abs and doing stretches helps calm down frequency when it is acting up. Wine or vodka after long day. Flexeral and melatonin at night. Swimming and light weights. .5 of Elavil every other day helps with frequency and healing process. Trying to stay positive and not stressing over this!

How many guys diagnosed with Cystoscopy.
I was reading some of my old posts and came across the one thing that always concerned me. When I was dianosed with prostatitis my uro did cystoscope and said he saw red bumps on my prostate. Another guy that used to post on this site, MikeCA had the same experience. I remember Webslave saying that they were Hunners ulcers or glomerulations (pinpoint submucosal hemorrhages). This got me to thinking that if they really are then I need to have them removed right? I think I am going to go back to uro and have him explain himself in further detail and maybe refer me to someone else....maybe IC specialist who might have heard of this before. I have been searching the internet for any info on this and can't seem to find any place where other uros have found similiar things and doesnt seem like a normal way they diagnose prostatitis. I havent heard from MikeCa and the last I heard from him he was going to Dr. Bahn for injections I believe so no update on how he is doing. There have been some new guys posting and wondering if they have ever heard of a uro finding similiar thing.

Re: How many guys diagnosed with Cystoscopy.
This is interesting.
My understanding is a cystoscopy can only see the ducts to see if they are wide open or not and the prostatic urethra. Did your uro say these ulcers were inside the prostate? I can understand if the Uro said the prostatic urethra was red or inflamed etc...I would call and ask your uro to further explain his diagnosis or if He video taped it to get a copy so you can have a different Uro view it.
Also keep in mind that any surgical operation is of very last resort here. This is a drastic suggestion to think that cutting away is going to heal you. I say this with lots of caution.

Re: How many guys diagnosed with Cystoscopy.
Hunner's ulcers occur on the bladder wall, not the prostatic urethra.

Re: How many guys diagnosed with Cystoscopy.
Carld not thinking of cutting anything away.
I was just always confused that I was diagnosed that way as it doesn't seem like that is typical way to be diagnosed. After reading past post and webslave stating they could be Hunner's ulcers it got me thinking. So you can see inflammation on the ducts so maybe that is what he was getting at? Like I said I am going back to chat with him and maybe get referral to another urologist who may specializes in IC. I was thinking about this because of my anxiety about having IC and I think I should go get a work up and then I can finally put my mind at ease and get rid of that anxiety. Plus if you do have IC then the earlier you catch it the better. Like I said been doing some research and can't find any info on uro seeing inflammation with scope. Well I am going to pursue this further. Oya MikeInCA was diagnosed with TRUS and that is how the uro saw red bumps, sorry went back and reread posts.

Re: Tight in abs and around bladder
moment to moment relaxation of the abs has helped a lot for me in managing this: try and take stock, as much as possible during the day (especially when you are engaged in activities) how you are carrying your abs. Are you sucking them in? Are you clenching them? What about when your urinate or defecate?
Also, get a Theracane and work them hard- I found it took a few weeks or working on them to break through the thick outer layer and get into to some trigger points that started referring pain all over.
A heating pad might also help (I've even found resting my laptop on my lower stomach-- because of the heat generated by the motherboard-- helps, ha)

Burning down legs
The burning sensation down my legs has been bothering me and I can't seem to break the flair up. I have been doing some reading and it looks like a lot of people have had this at one time or the other. Anyone know how long this lasts for them or what they did to improve there symptoms. One post stated it could be a sign of another problem like fibromyalgia or something. The burning actually feels better when I am walking around and got the blood flowing. Symptoms just changing and just telling myself this will be temporary too so I just figure I may have to just give it some time.

Re: Tight in abs and around bladder
I had really tight ads and starting doing a lot of yoga stretching. My hip abductors seemed to be causing tightness in my lower abs, so I would try and loosen them up. My PT taught me this, and then I learned some more stretches for this area from a yoga instructor. Self massage of the ab muscles is one of the easier areas to get at. It helps to use a tool like a Theracane or a massage knobber.

Re: Burning down legs
Burning down the legs, especially into the thighs, is a very common symptom, and is well explained by the nature of nerves, such as cross-talk and the intercommunication among nerve plexuses.

Re: Burning down legs
If you are doing significant exercise, elliptical, weightlifting, jogging, soccer, tennis etc ... a break from them may give the area a rest. Even if exercise seems to help the symptoms temporarily it may contribute to flares hours or days down the road.
Age:43 | Onset Age:36 | Symptoms: First urinary and backside, golf ball feeling, now ok (no heavy exercise) . Major onset seemed to be with heavy coughing spell , felt "tearing" or nerve pain in rectum/prostate. | Helped By:Hot showers, sleep.Worsened By: Type A obsessiveness ... Stressing, what-if thinking, weights.

Re: Burning down legs
I have this symptom on my left leg. The pain radiates from my calf to the middle of my butt. It's more of a stabbing pain however. The way I've been dealing with it is to stay active and distracted. Active at this point for me is walking and stretching. Since giving up racquetball I have been feeling much, much better. I have episodic episodes of pain, but only if I'm in certain positions.
I also went to see my PT yesterday who found that the muscle on the left side of my anus (don't know the name) was very, very stiff. She pushed on it and it was pretty painful, but at the same time it felt good too. I'm going to be seeing her a couple times per week for four weeks. Thank God for insurance.
The other thing I'm doing is doing my stretches in the tub while I'm showering. I find that in the morning I'm too stiff to do stretches properly, but in the shower I'm much more limber. There are quite a few things you can do in the tub that you can't do in a regular stretching routine, because there isn't the support to hang on to or lean against. It's a great way to start the morning.

Re: Burning down legs
calguy - do you do Yoga? Do you "overstretch"?....for the last few months my main problem has been really annoying butt pain and pain down the legs kind of like you describe. My Dad suggested that maybe Yoga was doing it. I didn't consider that, I figured Yoga was 100% good for me. So, I took a couple weeks off from Yoga and the pain subsided.
When I think about it, for 28 years I had been a very inflexible person, then chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome came on and I started Yoga...I got into it pretty good....I think that I was "overstretching" though. I shouldn't have expected my body to adapt to all that stretching so quickly after 28 years! I'm going to start going back, but I'm going to take it A LOT easier now.
Anyway.....maybe you are stretching too much or stretching too hard?
