I clearly remember how I used to start the week feeling ok, but by Friday I was really struggling. It got worse as the week progressed.

Sneezing

Post by BrettP »

Does anyone have tip of the penis pain when they sneeze? I have noticed that I have this each time I sneeze, I feel the pain in the left tip(good thing I dont have allergies!!!) :-D . Strange that its also moved from the right to the left tip. This perplexes me. Anyone have any insight into this?

That's pretty bizarre. I hope you don't plan to work at a pepper factory anytime soon. :P

I wish I could offer some insight, but unfortunately I can only offer some humor....

I've had an occasional sharp pain in my perineum when sneezing over the years, which just goes to show that my muscles down there are not 100%, even though I am overall symptom-free.

When sneezing your upper diaphram (under lungs) and lower diaphram (pelvic floor muscles) and abs involuntary contract and spasm. In the lower case it is in response to pressure and to close the sphincters and retain fluids etc.
Women with weakness and retention problems will leak and have accidents and men with tension problems may have their symptoms temporarily show up.

I FULLY agree with this post. I am someone diagnosed with an extremely tight upper diaphragm and when its tight so is the PF. And when I sneeze I used to get a small spasm in the PF.

Rectal Discomfort

Post by BrettP »

I had a question, I seem to be having some rectal pain. When I have to take a crap, i can feel pain in my anus area the pressure seems to start it, i never had this before, I did have some bleeding in the past, but not so much anything related to pain. Then it kind of lingers on through out the day. The last few days I have felt this pain in my rectum and it is bothering me. I seem to be getting a lot better as time goes by with my other symptoms, but I notice new things coming and going. Is this a common problem? I have read some posts that would confirm this, but, I just need some reassurance. I was thinking about going to the doctor and having them investigate it, as I havent had any scopes of that area done to rule out anything bad in my rectal area like hemmeroids etc or even someting more serious. This seems to have come up over the last few days and does not seem to be going away. Its almost like my anus area is sore. Any advice you guys have to get it to go away would be appreciated as well.

My theories are that it is a side effect of PT, or there is just some muscle tightness in that area that could be causing it. Dont know what to think, but will probably see a doctor to be safe, although i think rectal problems like cancer are rare for 24 yr olds. In any event, your suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

Yes PT or muscle tightness. But good to see a doctor to rule out any other problems
although i think rectal problems like cancer are rare for 24 yr olds.
Discard the thought (at best it is a very remote possibility).

I became very sore in the rectal area when I was having internal PT work done. I had to cancel a couple of appointments because the area had become too irritated. From what I have read, the added muscle tension from chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome restricts blood flow to the tissue of the rectal area. This area also heals very slowly in general without muscle constriction. It takes 6 months for the skin at the opening of your anus to heal 50%.

After about 6 months in I realized stress as a major trigger. Work was my main source of stress. I have a much better job now but it still is a slight trigger sometimes. I started in horrible pain all the time though so that’s why it took me 6 months to figure it out. I also found out long periods of standing was a trigger for me. If you are playing with other variables like medications then it is hard to figure out what is causing it. I believe I was taking a lot of Soma (carisoprodol) and stopped taking it, and out of coincidence started working more hours around the same time. I thought I should get back on Soma but in hindsight it had nothing to do with that.

Totally agree. Quitting a bad job was one of the best things I've ever done for my chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome ( viewtopic.php?f=37&t=5626 ), and I quit it about two years late. Lesson learned (for me, at least): Things are not going to magically get better at work by just soldiering on. If the job is wrecking you, get out ASAP. Just my opinion of course, and maybe a little reckless in the current economic environment, but so be it. I don't ever plan to take on as stressful a job again, and better yet, I plan to do enough work on myself in terms of how I process stress that work or other stressors won't be so much of a problem for me in the future.

On a related note, I find both standing very still OR sitting for long periods to be problematic. Sadly, many jobs involve one or the other- it's hard to find a gig with a happy balance of tasks and a good degree of freedom of movement. But our bodies were made to move. How much time do you think cavemen spent sitting at a desk or standing immobile behind a cash register?

Anyway, yes, I firmly believe work can be the cause of tremendous mental and physical stress, and that ain't good- for us, or anybody!
Age: 36 | Onset Age: 29 (Summer 2005) Main Symptoms (all intermittent): penile/anal/rectal/perineum pain/numbness/tingling/coldness, LUTS, ED | Helped By: duloxetine (Cymbalta), topical benzocaine, occasional benzodiazepines, hot weather, hot baths, understanding friends & family, pushing myself to be more sociable and active, psychotherapy (mostly CBT), diaphragmatic breathing, relaxation, meditation (concentration and mindfulness), adequate sleep | Worsened By: cold weather, stress, inadequate sleep, prolonged sitting or standing in place, walking uphill, heavy exercise, erection/ejaculation (sometimes)
Last But Not Least: I am not a medical/health professional of any kind. This is not medical advice.

I've been finding the same. I have been keeping a diary since starting my new job a month ago. On the day I started I had so much pain, which lasted for 2-3 days, looking back, due to being anxious. As I settled in the pain went, and since then I have been mostly pain free. On days I feel depressed (due to recent relationship) or down I notice my symptoms increase. Its quite amazing to see how the body reacts this way. On good days I feel totally normal, apart from the ED....
Age: 33 | Onset Age: 32 Initial Symptoms: Frequent urination Current Symptoms: The odd feeling of frequency but not much else Helped By: Not thinking about it, hot bath, red wine, light exercise, Bowen technique seems to help, getting on with my life Worsened By: catastrophic thinking, worrying things will get worse, feeling depressed, reading websites too often! Work! Sitting in work all day isn't good!! Current Progress : Since 1st Sept 08, no pain!!! :)

I had a second job tutoring to bring home some extra cash. I started getting pushed to take on more kids and do more testing by my boss, who wouldn't listen that I didn't want any more stress or responsibility, so I quit.

I'd rather be short on cash than be stressed and unhappy.

My philososophy has been that when something isn't fun, enjoyable or fullfilling any more I'm not going to do it, or at the minimum expose myself to it as little as possible. That's not possible in every circumstance, but I'm finding out more and more that in situations I have been pushed into, coerced into, manipulated into, the end result is that I'm unhappy and I flare.
I've really been asserting myself at work lately and refusing to do things that are out of my classification or just ethically wrong or dangerous.

Personally, I'm tired of having my flight and fight response on all the time. So, I am no longer going to do this. Nobody care about me, like I should care about me. That's the bottom line.
