This is my first time posting on here when I haven't been in pain. I've been dealing with this for about 1.5 years now and have noticed that after the 12 month mark the pain started to get a little bit better. The main thing that I've learned is the practice of moment to moment relaxation - that's just bringing down the pelvis to a normal relaxed state. For a while I did this just in reaction to pain, but lately I've tried to make it part of my everyday life. By doing this, I've also noticed that this has enabled me to relax overall. My issues in life are still exactly the same and the stresses I face with work are actually much worse than what they were 6 months ago, but I've learned to deal with them differently. I've noticed that when I got to bed I'm starting to have dreams again and I'm doing all of this without any pharmaceutical treatment. Basically I am not taking life as seriously but I'm still living it and succeeding. I truly believe that this issue is brought on by the combination of stress + an outside issue like an infection. When whatever the outside issue is goes away, the stress keeps the pain present. It seems like it's just a matter of breaking the pain cycle to start walking down the recovery path.
Another point is that I've been starting to exercise regularly again - it kills stress. I'm not lifting super heavy weight, but I'm doing a normal weight workout and some jogging. I used to do this constantly before I had symptoms. When my symptoms originally started I decided to stop working out to try to relax my muscles. In reality, I stopped doing what I loved and this just made things worse I believe. I started working out again a few months ago and noticed a significant improvement.
About 3 weeks ago I had a flare up - normally that would mean going home and not participating in life - or getting really drunk to try to forget about it. This time I decided to live life like normal. If I was in horrible pain, I wanted to be in horrible pain while having fun. Just like so many people say, it's just a matter of accepting it and stop trying to undo it - I don't think it's possible to succeed this way. The flare lasted a few days and it worked itself out.
I thought I'd share that since I'm on the longest run of no pain. Finally, this isn't a celebration because I know the pain will come back again - and I'm fine with it. My goal is to slowly get rid of this thing by just being positive and living my life w/ pain. Eventually I think I'll be 100%.
Thanks,
Chris

I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

Re: Thoughts
Great post.
I havent posted on here for a few weeks now, mostly because I have felt completely back to normal. I had a bit of pain for 2 days a few weeks ago when I started my new job, but after a bit of stretching it went. I've been totally forgetting about this condition, am no longer afraid of the pain when I get it and have been enjoying myself, even had a few dates lately. For me, firstly, seeing a PT (Bill Taylor) did me the world of good, it showed me that this thing is muscular and that it can be treated. That did so much for my stress levels and anxiety. Secondly, reading about this research and potential treatments in the future has also helped me. Weird I know, but I feel better knowing what I have, and how it can be treated.
My new job has also been going well and I feel happier going there. Sitting all day now causes no pain, and a night on the town, or a day on my motorbike no longer leaves me with symptoms the next day. Of course, I could just be having a lull in my symptoms, but i'm enjoying life again now anyway. The only problem I still have is ED but I am hoping this will also resolve in time. I am going back up to see Bill next month anyway just to see if there is any difference with regards my muscles and trigger points, but I feel really good at the moment and dare I say, before, I was reading this site too much, reading into things too much, and focusing on the condition too much, to a point, that you dont think of anything else... this no doubt is what made my symptoms much worse.

Re: Thoughts
Glad to see people getting better!!!!
My cock pain flare seems to have passed to about 90%, still some post ejaculatory pain, but I too am feeling successful, at least for the moment! :)
I have also been doing moment to moment and just punked my work into getting me a nice mesh Herman Miller chair so my ass doesnt feel like its been pounded with a sledgehammer! -- GET A DOCTOR'S NOTE PEOPLE, IT HELPS!!!
To all you newer people than I, relaxation is the absolute key! As you can read from the successful posts here, you can get better, you just need to relax and stop worrying about this BS! YOU WILL SEE IMPROVEMENTS! I have been here less than a week, and within this week, I have seen pain come and go, and come and go, gradually getting better each wave.
Congrats and thanks to everyone who has been positive on here, you're helping a lot of people, so lets all continue to keep positive!

Re: Thoughts
I have been feeling pretty good to guys, my frequency calmed down after I did some work on my abs and just relaxed my body after pushing it too hard. I agree over focusing on this BS makes it worse and I have been doing better since I am not so afraid anymore and I feel like I have some control over it and can calm down flares with PT and relaxation. I have to admit there is still some fear that it will come on strong all of sudden and get worse but if that does happen there is noting I can do but enjoy the good days I am having now. How many guys have really improved then had it come back worse??? Been 9 months and have been steadily getting better and I'm hoping after another year I should be feeling pretty normal. I havent found food or drink gives me flare, except mabe coffee. I can say that healthy diet makes me feel much better though. I have found that over doing sex will cause me to flare up, no pornstar thrusts!
I still can't run or play sports like I used to which is depressing and I feel I may have to give those things up for good but I can live with that I guess. Glad to hear a lot of you guys are improving and I guess all we can do is just wait and see what happens next and continue following protocal.
Age 32, onset 32 Onset Aug 07- frequency was main problem in the beginning-really bad. Now 1 to 2x per night when frequency flairs up. Sore and tight lower abdominal muscles. Occasional burning after bowel movement and full feeling. What helps: Healthy diet(this is huge for me) Started drinking super greens supplament and almost going totally vegetarian to get body more alkaline, starting Prosta-Q, quercetin/zinc tablet in morning helped frequency problem I believe. Massaging abs and doing stretches helps calm down frequency when it is acting up. Wine or vodka after long day. Flexeral and melatonin at night. Swimming and light weights. .5 of Elavil every other day helps with frequency and healing process. Trying to stay positive and not stressing over this!

Laws of attraction here....
The more Men stick together and really focus on the positive of CP/CPPS meaning life changing us for the better....to take care of ourselves and help others and practice what works to slowly heal and posting positive words....That translates to success and other's come here and read and that positive energy gives us hope. When you have hope....the healing really can start. So lets keep it flowing and when your down....don't fret, the flare will pass and remember the days that you feel good while in a flare and encourage other's.
We will all recover over our lifetime and life is good....
Cheers, Carld....
