biofeedback - reducing sphincter pressure

Post by ramana »

So my PT added biofeedback since TrP release is not helping. The instrument measures me at 10 microvolt. With some active relaxation and imagery I can bring it down to 8 microvolt. If she asks me to squeeze and then release, I get down to 6 microvolt. Normal people are at 2 microvolt. I have tried this a few times and every time I can get to 6 but not much beyond. I practice relaxing the perineum and rectal area throughout the day and of course Dr Wise tapes etc. Are there any methods to specifically relax the sphincter for example. Even if it does not help in pain, I am keen on getting normal reading for sphincter. At the very least PT will be less painful

You can try doing the Valsalva maneuver (i.e. pretend you're trying to "go"). That will reduce sphincter pressure momentarily. Then, try to stay at that level.
Started: Spring 2003; high urinary frequency and pain associated with bladder filling; urinary hesitancy; pubic/prostate/perineal discomfort; Helped by: trigger point therapy, Afrin nasal spray, Cymbalta, hydrocodone (small doses), distraction. Makes worse: sex.

Not medical advice. Consult your doctor.

This was the first thing administered on me. It wasn't helpful, as Dr Wise has stated, usually the sphincter is tight from Trps deep in the tissue. Actually the first time I did this with a PT it helped, but once I started doing it at home it made it worse.....you don't want to be tensing already chronically shortened and tense muscles......

I did this treatment for 6 months with some success. I have added it to my tools for a specific symptom. How long you been doing this? Do you do kegels regularly? I did some diaphragm breathing that is designed to stretch and relax the pelvis. Stretches help you get into more of a relaxed state.
Age: 26 | Onset Age: 20 | Symptoms: Used to be pain around the base of the penis, now I have golf ball in rectum feeling that can be very painful. | Helped By: kegal exercise/biofeedback (fixed ejaculation pain), antiinflamatory drugs, warm baths (intermediate term relief), hamstring stretching (very short term relief), the biggest being stress management | Worsened By: Stress, Standing for long periods, ejaculating used to make it worse, but not anymore
