Are the pains it causes(into abs, penis tip, etc) typical pain for you when you're symptomatic? If not, you're probably pressing a nerve. If you can feel the tissue physically loosen and relax w/ constant light but consistent pressure, it's probably muscle, if it just hurts, probably not.

Re: Why gluten now?

Post by chrisjiujitsu »

you guys are killing my diet here. I bought 40 boxes of oatmeal because it was half price. Now what am I supposed to do? I have been eating oatmeal for years for breakfast. I was recently diagnosed with IC, I did not see gluten mentioned to be eliminated. How do I know if I am sensitive to it? It is hard to have a consistent environment to perform tests. How long after you eat it does it cause a flare? If I were to eliminate gluten entirely, how long before I notice a change if I were sensitive?
Age: 26 | Onset Age: 20 | Symptoms: Used to be pain around the base of the penis, now I have golf ball in rectum feeling that can be very painful. | Helped By: kegal exercise/biofeedback (fixed ejaculation pain), antiinflamatory drugs, warm baths (intermediate term relief), hamstring stretching (very short term relief), the biggest being stress management | Worsened By: Stress, Standing for long periods, ejaculating used to make it worse, but not anymore

Do you have any sort of reaction to wheat, such as diarrhoea, headache, runny nose, hiccups, stomach pain, feeling low, phlegmy throat after eating etc? Any one of those reactions would make me suspicious.

Ok funny you mention runny nose there. I have given up wheat and gluten for the past 2 weeks. I have noticed during this week in particular my nose is always runny. Now I thought I may have a reaction if I was eating something I was allergic to, but what about when you are coming off a product? Is it known to cause similar effects?

Hmmm maybe but runny nose is my only symptom. Am not full up, or sneezing, nothing, just my nose and only the past week. Wondered if it may have been like a withdrawl symptom of stopping gluten and wheat in diet, because I did eat a lot of the stuff every day. Have to say, I am amazed how many foods have gluten and wheat in them, and I am missing my bread!!!

Don't stop eating wheat unless you are pretty sure you have a reaction to it.

So there is no reason to believe that gluten is bad for those with IC or CPP? It is really hard at times to try and narrow down a trigger to what is causing a flare. I dont have any of those symptoms listed above, so does that mean I am safe to eat gluten? I am only worried about it being a potential trigger for pelvic pain, and I dont have much reason to think it is other than what I have read here.

Listen to your body! Take note of what affects you, foodwise, emotionally, tensionwise.

Some guys get horrible flares from drinking sodas with benzoate preservatives in them. Be alert.

I thought Wheat though was a potential trigger for pain? The reason I stopped it was because before my big flare on Monday two weeks ago, I had been eat Wheat cereal for the past five mornings, which I dont normally do...

Time Frames

Post by neue01 »

How often are you guys doing your own internal TP massage? How many times a week or during the day do you each perform manual self massage? I have been attempting to release a few stubborn TPs once in the morning and once in the evening. It seems to aggravate my symptoms during the week but I want to get rid of these TPs badly. Any suggestions or thoughts on this subject?

I never do two days in a row. I aim for around 3 times a week. This is about once a day, every other day.

Sometimes it really feels great the next day or afterward, other times, it actually feels like it tightens up MORE the next few days. But I'm just sticking with it. I've had it nearly 10 years (the golf ball in the bum feeling) and so I'm giving myself a good solid year of this PT on myself to see how it does.

If I'm feeling really bad I'll do it once a day for like 3 or 4 days. Then it will ease up a bit and I won't do it for 3 or 4 days. It depends on how I'm feeling. I find stretching, internal PT and then relaxation all right in a row can really turn down a bad flare up.
Age: 28 | Onset Age:25 | Symptoms: Burning during urination (every so often), pain in tip of penis (not as much anymore), pain in perineum (ditto..not as bad as before), pain in anus, butt pain | Helped By: TP therapy, stretching, relaxation, good diet | Worsened By: sex, stress, sitting for long periods

Muscle or not?

Post by neue01 »

Has anybody noticed 2 very tight thin bands running along both sides just above the levator ani muscle internally? I push on these thin bands thinking they might be tight muscles but I do not get any pain reference and they do not feel like muscles really. They seem to be of a different type of a band than typical muscle tissue which seems thicker. These are almost like a single stiff fiber running on left and right sides like a tight thread as apposed to a tight small band of rope like other muscles. Has anybody got any clues?
