Hernia op, pain persists

Post by rayiovino »

hi everyone also a new guy here trying to to find a fast cure, first post hope I am doing it right, ok my problem started in oct 07, some minor burning, had it twice before once Jan 06 uro put me on Cipro for 8 weeks, went away, in Oct started the same went to uro, felt real bad gave me levaquin, had fever chills 5 days no better, called and switched to Cipro still fever sick as dog, than put me on sulfa stuff, still no good 5 days called backed with terrible headaches said I must be allergic to sulfa put me on cefotan (cephalosporin), fever when away next day, but pain and burning stayed, no sleep no relief, slow stream, painful, sit baths advil, just lousy, changed uro, did a massage and culture, nothing, cat scan showed enlargement, and slight hernia, last week pain unbearable, when to hosp, said testicle infected called first uro, said check blood and urine all fine, give me shot of some anti-inflammatory, more anti macrobid and sent me home. Pain still terrible crawl to uro next day, demand visit, refuse to leave, didn't care anymore, doc says give him 10 min, sees me does DRE, checks pain says hernia blown out need surgery fast, send me to his surgeon, next day laparoscopy repair done, been 8 days feel better, that pain but burning is still there, and some pain. Flomax seems to help, only on it 9 days, valium helps a lot, advil too.

My question is did I have a bacterial, or do I have non bacterial, also pelvis pulled up, like a drum, no sleep for weeks just starting to sleep a bit but getting up 2 times a nite.............any ideas

You can only assess your true situation a few months after surgery. Give it time and see if the pain subsides.

thanks webslave for reply and corrections, uro thinks slight hernia was causing some problem, pulling pelvis up and tightening muscle, he said give it some time, but I was so sick with with fever and don't understand what happened to me in just 2.5 months, I got the book, headache one, even called and spoke to Dr Wise, nice guy spoke for 20 mins, of course could not tell me anything that wasn't public knowledge, but I did call PT Marilyn Freedman, she is away but only 20 min away from me, also Dr Moldwin (Long Island Jewish hosp), I am very proactive, and sometimes get very down, but will do whatever I have too to beat this, or to keep it under control, like a diabetic does, or someone with other conditions, thanks again I really want to be part of this I need to talk to others, really thanks ray

You can't go wrong with Freedman if the pain persists.

Sorry, usually no fast cures. Whether the hernia was responsible or coincidental will be found out. Any pelvic floor probs from hernia or other issues can be resolved but usually nothing quick. Read thru the posts, do a search on "sleep" "hernia" and "frequency" for example. You can get a lot of insight with the experiences of some others.

Hi everyone, just got back from surgeon hernia healing but said it was a bad one. Sure take it easy for a few more weeks. A few questions maybe I can get help with, taking Flomax for 3 weeks, took it before bed last nite slept through first time it 3 months, got up to pee at 5.15 am from 11 god it was a shock, only suffering with burning when I have to pee, and after drinking half decaf and half reg in morning, than drinking decaf, go to pee at work burns like hell, take 2 advil calms down after half hour. Is decaf bad to drink too, will Prelief help?

I ordered any accredited quercetin product too, only started 90 days ago, any other ideas?

I have to wait a few weeks before starting PT, because of hernia. Oh my uro got me taking half ED med to relax area, if i could just control the burning
thanks ray

If you only have burning when you pee, and you can sleep right through, then things are improving, no? Yes, get some Prelief for this postoperative period.

Thanks for reply webslave, yes took Flomax before bed and was able to sleep through the nite, burning pain starts 5 min after peeing, taking advil, lets up in a half hour or so, I have celebrex but havent taken it yet, and am not peeing as much, but sometimes feel I only go when it starts to burn, dont feel urge like I used to, is that weird or part of the whole process. I when back to work this week, still not strong from surgery but burning makes it tough, can't take anything too strong at work, I got an easy, no stress government job I can coast, not what I want to do but for now I got to. I get about 4 hours of relief from 2 advil, 200mg each, maybe celebrex will last the day, thanks again webslave I look forward to your insight and response, I keep reading hitp book, massage book, found two real sore spots between legs hurt when massaged, are they trigger points? thanks again in a short time I have learned a lot, I miss being ok, but accept what I have to deal with, and trying not to fight the pain nor run for a valium when it hits me, a hero I aint, believe me just trying to get on with my life with least amount of help, my kitchen counter started to look like a drugstore, had to take them away, made me feel like an invalid, sometimes it really hurts and I didn't know what to take first, maybe I am getting a little better, or less stressed which is helping me cope, I read every nite and fall asleep, 3 weeks ago I needed a sleeping pill, or valium, this site has helped me, I am on it everyday, or always check, looking for any ideas, or good news that someone is getting better. I know I ramble sometimes, I write how I think, but hearing from someone helps a lot. . . . . . . . . . . . . . thanks again ray

Ray, you really need to chill until the effects of the op wear off, and that will be in about 2-3 months. Until then, your symptoms could be due to anything, and so as long as you have adequate pain relief, you'll be okay and just have to muddle through.

Hi everyone, question I would like to ask, is librium ok to take when on Flomax, I have taken valium but made me sleepy, also been on Flomax maybe 3 weeks, going less, sleeping till 3 am than 6am, less urgency, starts up around 10 am after peeing at work, started 2 Prelief before every meal, wanting for any accredited quercetin product to arrive, hope it does something, and surgeon said as webslave did give it more time for hernia to heal, still getting tingling feeling in left testicle, and some low discomfort. Got to wait a few more weeks to try PT, had appt with with M. Freedman, 2 hour session, but got to wait a few more weeks, I wish we all weren't here, but I am thankful to have a place to go, health and healing to all, only 90 days of this, god you guys are the strong ones, I am trying to find what works for me, got so much to do yet, any answers from anyone would be great............ray

Librium (Chlordiazepoxide) can, like alpha blockers such as Flomax, make you a little dizzy and disoriented, so be extra careful when driving or controlling heavy equipment, especially when taking both drugs simultaneously.

Ray,

In reading your posts, you are in a lot of ways like many of us. Anxiety type person with maybe ADHD with the all over the place remarks. CP/CPPS takes lots of time and lots of work in a calm way. Relaxation should be something to put that energy into while you heal. With out relaxation, there is no healing.

You may want to consider Elavil low dosage 10mg to calm the nerves, help reduce anxiety and slow some frequency. Instead of valium or Lithium etc...Talk to your doctor

No quick fix here, you are in this for the long haul. You have all the info here and in New York, you have the right PT to get you going once you have healed from your OP. Good luck...

I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.
