How do you lift your pelvic floor ?

Post by graeme »

In words how would you tell somebody or describe the way to do it !

I thought it was clenching your Butt; this I found hard to do yesterday while being examined dropping it easy but lifting it when told not so easy. Maybe it was because my muscles are so crap !
Age:33 | Onset Age:19 | Symptoms:burning urethra, deep sore stinging around the perineum, dribbling | Helped By:when flare starts deep relaxing over a toilet to let out dribbling urine, hot bath, rubbing a heat cream on the perineum, Tens with a pad on the perineum, running, medication (solpadol) for pain. Current treatment: PT. | Worsened By:sitting, stressing over it, ejaculation, sometimes alcohol but I risk it. Been feeling a lot better last 6 months about 85% with a few flares lasting about 5 days. No longer having PT. Stretching every other night and I believe time is also a big factor for me

go take a Piss, now stop in mid stream, that contraction you need to do is lifting up the pelvic floor, unfortunately for me and many of us that contracted state is how our pelvis gets stuck. I know mine was and very tightly so, now I can get it down, but after all day it goes back up, then I release it, but mine continues to get better.

Good Luck

I've got a big issue with not dropping my pelvic floor - it's always tensed up there and I'm working hard at the moment to moment relaxation to try and calm it down. I can see it taking a long time though to retrain the muscles to be switched off as their natural state.
Not medical advice: Read my progress to date : Read about my W-A clinic visit

Age: 54 CPPS: 20 Yrs Recovery Status: 95% Symptoms: Pain around perineum Makes Worse: Tension, sitting Makes Better: Stretching, triggerpoint therapy, relaxation

You got that right, tough work, and really requires moment to moment. What I've found is that once the trigger points become active again, you can do moment to moment until you are blue in the face, but it won't properly drop. Maybe this isn't the case for everyone, but it certainly is for me.

Luckily, I found a few new trigger points that seem to once deactivated drop the pelvic floor fairly easy. But, its painful going and recreating some inflammation that I had finally resolved. But, its always 2 steps back 3 steps forward when new active areas are found.

Good Luck to you,

Those same muscles that can stop your stream are the same muscles that contract in an orgasm. The PC muscle. I would always contract that muscle all the time prior to onset when I would see a hot chic walk by. Kinda like screwing her right then and there with out screwing her you know....unfortunately all I did was screw my self...

I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

Unfortunately, controlling the pelvic floor's state of tension is one of the most tricky things to do, and may even involve something as profound as changing one's outlook on life, one's philosophy. If you are in a state of tension because:
  • you are basically a hyper-vigilant person who is constantly anticipating some attack or disaster, or
  • you have a bad marriage that irks you constantly, or
  • you have financial troubles that bother you, or
  • you hate your job, or
  • you are depressed and think that life sucks, or
  • etc
...you will find it almost impossible to have a relaxed pelvic floor. That's why, I believe, some people just cannot relax the PF and progress with treatment.

What can we do about this?
  • Change the life circumstance that is causing the psychic tension (divorce the wife, leave the crappy job, etc)
  • Adopt a new life philosophy (talking of which, there are some amazing lectures by Alan Watts on the internet. Try this 16MB torrent as an introduction)
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.
