Percussion Massager

Post by prisoner »

Anyone tried one of these?

I feel as though the vibration will loosen up a flare.

For some reason, during a flare, simply punching my glutes sets my anus and perineum into a relaxed state.

Age: 31 | Onset Age: 28
Symptoms: Pain in perineum, tight sphincter muscles, referred pain at tip of penis.
Helped By: sleep, hot baths, relaxation, stretching protocol.
Worsened By: Sitting and stress. No connection with food, alcohol or caffeine.

Maybe I'm dealing with something different than most here. When I vibrate my perineum either with a massager or this, http://www.workoutideas.com/tudettvithex.html which I did at a local PT office, I feel a nerve in my perineum being shaken, and after I have full on nerve "crawling"and burning/itching in the perineuma and anus, and urethra contraction/shocks than can't be reduced by anything. This type of flare up has lasted weeks. Am I dealing wth PNE issues? Is this typical? Help out a new guy, please.

The fact that you are getting such a big reaction to massage of the pelvic area is a sure sign that you have big issues with the pelvic floor. :-D That's actually good news, because it means you can get better.

It's well documented that once you start in on these muscles, they react by flaring the pain — if the muscle fibres are knotted badly enough.

This is not a PNE issue either.

I'm not sure that "buzzing" the trigger points is the right approach though. It may give a flare without any advantage.... resolving trigger pts involves sustained pressure right onto the knotted bundle of fibres, and a re-education of the nerves into the area through conscious relaxation.

I second Webslaves response to you. Need to get inside there on the perineum side and work around the area. I actually used to be able to get the same type of band twinge feeling when applying pressure to that area. Also if I dropped my leg on a bed it felt like a rubber band was being plucked on the right side in my pelvis near the urethra. All just weird symptoms from tight pelvic muscles.....
Age:29 | Onset Age: 25.5 | Symptoms: Initially burning in prostate/perineum, burning in urethra, uncontrollable muscle contraction before urinating, dual ache in groin, left testicle pain, feeling of golf ball in rectum, soarness in rectum, and muscle spasms, now mainly very mild urinary tract inflammation, burning mildly after ejaculation, some days after physical activity involuntary mild muscle contraction before urinating | Helped By: .5 mg of Ativan, Aleve (naproxen), quercetin, alcohol in large quantities (vodka and soda), stretching, walking, internal massage the perineum area and levators. | Worsened By: sitting, weightraining, jogging, coffee, caffeine in general, alcohol bothered me at first, overdoing sex

I think that was designed for the heavy muscles of the upper back, traps, lower back or thighs etc. Using that with the more delicate tissues in your groin is like driving a small nail to hang a picture with a 5 lb sledgehammer. Its unlikely that gizmo behind your balls is helping you relax or loosen up anything. If the stress has worked its way up to your shoulders, back etc it may be of help.

I really don't believe anyone has really found a vibrator or machine of any kind to be of verified use. Most direct stimulation to the area, including internal/external trigger point therapy usually triggers or worsens flares as tightened tissue tries to retain its previous (dysfunctional) state. Pt is helpful as a longer term solution but the winners in terms of flares seems to be sleep, Xanax, Elavil, (helpful for sleep) any non prescription relaxant that helps you relax and warm baths. Also taking it easy on the exercise, light stretching etc. (if not totally eliminating it if you get weeks of flare).

These muscles compress nerves and and CPPS folks have pains, spasms, tightness and tingling down the leg insides, outsides, thighs, hamstrings, calves, Achilles tendons, heels, arches and toes. Same goes for symptoms radiating from the pubic area to the tip of the penis, rectum, glutes, sitbones and belly button. The combinations are numerous and travel about the lower half of the body over time.
