Gay men with CPPS (Popburner's Case)

Post by popburner »

So I'm wondering if there are other gay men out there suffering with CPPS, and how you find receptive anal sex, as I'm not sure whether it will help or hurt and don't want to injure myself further (have abstained since the start of symptoms 3 months ago). thoughts? experiences?

Thanks!
p.s. is the Stanford/Wise-Anderson Protocol "gay friendly" - I don't want to be worried about asking ALL the questions while I'm there next month.

Gay Friendly

Post by mach5 »

Hi,

I am a straight guy, but I have had anal sex (giving) in a straight relationship. With condom and without. And also receiving anal penetration. I found the penetration at times to be ok, and at other times to be painful because of my condition. My rectal muscles can be quite tight sometimes. I always have pain about 5 mins after ejaculation no matter what.

I was recently at the stanford clinic, and while the topic of gay sex never came up, I dont think it would have been a problem at all. If you are still a little shy about it after the first day or so, you can always talk to Dr. Wise or Tim the physio guy privately no problem. The whole group was pretty open about talking about anything, and really there was no judgement about anything. But it was on our own accord during the breaks only when we felt like it.

At no time during the whole week will you be put on the spot to talk about your symtoms or sexual preferences. Another person there might ask, but you could just answer anything you want. Ie, there is no group sharing time of sorts. All your physio happens privately and most people dont talk about it too much other than to ask how each other are after. There really is a lot of bonding between everyone because it is a big experience, and everyone is extremely caring.

Your best bet would be to contact Dr. Wise, explain your situation, and see if he can give you Tims email address. He would be the most knowledgeable person about this in the world.

I ( and others I talked to), found being there very enlightening and it felt great to be able to talk about our problems 100% openly with other people without worries. I am sure you will find the same thing.

If you have any more questions about the clinic, you can PM me, or even better, call Dr. Wise and let him know your concerns. Just talking to Dr. Wise puts most peoples mind at ease. Plus Tim is an amazing guy himself. You will be in good hands.

Good luck,

PPS, if you havent booked a place yet, PM me, and I can give you some tips as well... I was just there in Sept myself

thank you for your thoughts!

Thanks for your thoughts and support - I've started the stretching protocol from "Headache in the Pelvis," and have a reservation with SP for the Oct seminar. I think that I am going to call Tim Sawyer the pt from the protocol to discuss with him some of my questions about sports, bicycling, and weight training - as well as the questions about sex. From past experience, I know it takes a lot of relaxation to have anal sex pleasurably, so I'm not worried about the actual moment, just the repercussions. I don't know if the relaxation of the muscles would help, or if they would perhaps seize up tighter afterwards. If there are any PTs on this site or folks with personal/second hand experience, I would appreciate any thoughts!

symptom question

Post by popburner »

Ok - so I'm a little worried I've made the wrong diagnosis of chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome (been to SP already). I experience the urinary frequency and ejaculate decrease - but my major symptoms are hypersensativity/burning on the underside of the the tip of the penis and burning at the rectal opening. I'm also experiencing burning hands/feet (seems to get worse as burning in rectum gets worse) that and sometimes legs and face. I don't have perineal burning - the rectal burning is more of a feeling of extremely dry/burning skin at the sphincter level. I also get hypersensativity around the pelvic region - making my hair feel like it's scratchy and uncomfortable.

When people are talking about rectal pain - what does it feel like? Is mine similar to yours? I'm debating seeing a neurologist, but don't think they'll understand the tp protocol - and will diagnosis me with some nerve entrapment. At the same time, I'm worried the pelvic symptoms are secondary to something else. Hmmmm....any thoughts would be very helpful!!!

I would definitely see a neurologist about this. It really sounds like you've got something else going on. As for your concerns that he'll misdiagnose your pelvic symptoms: have you been diagnosed with pelvic floor dysfunction by a physical therapist? If so, you can explain that part to him. Plus, he'll understand if you say stress makes your symptoms worse.

Burning feet and ankles I've heard of in quite a few men, but not burning hands, unless you do a lot of computer work and have a carpal tunnel thing happening.

Penis head (glans) is so sensitive it hurts

Post by popburner »

Does anyone else have this symptom? Is it TP related? It's unbearable! It feels like I'm constantly chaffing my genital's head. I also get a weird sensation on the underside of the penis where the shaft meets the glans. Anyone else with this symptom? My PT says this is related to the pudendal nerve's irritation. Thoughts? Thanks guys

Recently I had a doctor say I had meatal stenosis. I had already been through a guantlet of doctors and PT and everything. No one had said anything. I still havn't gotten a second oppinion, but maybe you should make sure they are looking at your urethra opening and making sure it is large enough (This is usually only a problem with circumcised men). I am no doctor but would think pain at the head of the penis would have to do with problem near the tip of the penis.
Age: 26 | Onset Age: 20 | Symptoms: Used to be pain around the base of the penis, now I have golf ball in rectum feeling that can be very painful. | Helped By: kegal exercise/biofeedback (fixed ejaculation pain), antiinflamatory drugs, warm baths (intermediate term relief), hamstring stretching (very short term relief), the biggest being stress management | Worsened By: Stress, Standing for long periods, ejaculating used to make it worse, but not anymore

Re: penis head is so sensative it hurts

I have the same symptom. I've been diagnosed with CPPS, I've been to Dr Wise's course, and I've had every drug known to humankind. For me, relaxation is definitely the key. Tension (I assume in my pelvis) is related as when I'm very relaxed and happy (as I was at the sebastapol program) it wasn't even noticeable. My advice is to relax as best you can (easy said, I know). the other option is small doses of Endep (amitriptyline) . It's a tricyclic that somewhat numbs the area. I found it really helpful in small doses (around 5-10mg). It reduced the sensitivity of the area and that helped me to stop tensing in response.

Good luck.

Paying for treatment - any luck with insurance (Blue Cross)?

Post by popburner »

Hey folks - my chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome treatment is putting me in the poor house (literally!). I pay $200 a week for PT, plus $150 for dry needling of trigger points, plus I paid for the SP clinic and I'm dying between the pain and the dried up savings! Has anyone had luck convincing Blue Cross of California to pay for their PT even though it's out of network (there are no in-network PTs that specialize in pelvic pain!)?

Any ideas would be much appreciated - having a bad few days here with the pain and no I can't give up on my PT for another 6 months at least - it's killing me financially.

Doesn't answer your question, but shows that BC do are not usually sympathetic to anything unusual. All I can say, from personal experience with the US health system, is that if you fight the HMOs with letters and phone calls, they can sometimes be made to pay. :(

I had BlueCross PPO with $2000 out of pocket maximum. So with $200 PT (that is the fee for http://www.pelvicpainrehab.com) etc, I am hoping to recover money after $2000 is expensed. (haven't filed claims as yet)
Before I knew about the $2000, I talked to them and asked them to provide me with an in-network pelvic therapist., They couldn't. The logic was then to ask them to give at least some money for the PT but then other events in my life happened and I aborted that.

This is my main symptom, I have suffered with this for over a year now. It is worse when I sit down than standing up.

I have also been told that it may be something to do with Pudendal nerve entrapment but this is quite rare and usually is linked to some sort of trauma to that area ie. surgery, accident etc

I have found a TP about 3-4 inches inside my rectum and up towards my perineum that replicates the pain.

Have you tried any internal work to locate the any TP's?
