Does this really lesson your chances of the self treatment at home being successful as there must be a lot of guys in this boat.Or are most trigger points reachable with a wand etc by yourself :?:
Age:33 | Onset Age:19 | Symptoms:burning urethra, deep sore stinging around the perineum, dribbling | Helped By:when flare starts deep relaxing over a toilet to let out dribbling urine, hot bath, rubbing a heat cream on the perineum, Tens with a pad on the perineum, running, medication (solpadol) for pain. Current treatment: PT. | Worsened By:sitting, stressing over it, ejaculation, sometimes alcohol but I risk it. Been feeling a lot better last 6 months about 85% with a few flares lasting about 5 days. No longer having PT. Stretching every other night and I believe time is also a big factor for me

I self treat. I'm a very independent person, and I told Tim I trust myself more than my wife who is untrained, if I can do this myself, please show me how. He made sure I could before I left the clinic.

If you have high points of pain (referred to as trigger points) in any direction you'll need a tool unless you have huge hands and a small pelvis. Doesn't give you the "feedback" so to speak that using a finger does. But some points are simply unreachable no matter how limber or determined you are and attacking them either by seeing a PT or using a tool is the way to go. I've found that the tool recommended in one of the threads on here words well, (not the crystal wand, it's a purple 7' curved personal "messager" and is slender and has a pointed tip with a surface area similar to a finger. ) Etching a line into the plastic where you hold it will give you tactile awareness of which way the tip is pointing and it can be very effective at locating problem areas.
