Wish it said how or if he is still battling prostatitis :?:

i think anyone at first who gets this disease has horrfic thoughts as the months go by in stopping the pain ,i remember wondering if chopping off my dick would stop it :62_58_40: :biggrin(1):
Age:33 | Onset Age:19 | Symptoms:burning urethra, deep sore stinging around the perineum, dribbling | Helped By:when flare starts deep relaxing over a toilet to let out dribbling urine, hot bath, rubbing a heat cream on the perineum, Tens with a pad on the perineum, running, medication (solpadol) for pain. Current treatment: PT. | Worsened By:sitting, stressing over it, ejaculation, sometimes alcohol but I risk it. Been feeling a lot better last 6 months about 85% with a few flares lasting about 5 days. No longer having PT. Stretching every other night and I believe time is also a big factor for me

Yeah I thought the same, not about chopping off my dick, but if he was still suffering with it or not, and if not, would have been interesting to read how he overcome it. Bit of a crappy article actually.

Aronson had chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome for about two to three years then it faded away. It came back about a year later for a month, went and has remained gone since then.

His book "The Morning has Broken" describes this.

I think he still takes anti depressants though.
Age:37 | Onset Age: 35 | Symptoms: pain in testicles that comes and goes that also switches sides-trying to find a pattern as to "why" this happens/Rectal Burn at the 6 O'clock position at my anus which tends to flare around the periphery of my anus typically after defication but no perineum pain-no "golf ball" pain. Pain in testicles worsens as I sit but not always...Pain is not always present but depresses me. Pain used to be at a very high level but has subsided in time to a low level but has not gone away. Pain used to flare after sex but not as much as before although it still like playing russian roulette./
/Lack of SleepHelped By: I haven't found anything that has helped to my knowledge. Tried many many sessions of PT, accupuncture and chiropractic care but still have not found steady relief that takes me back to a pre CPPS state.

The point of posting the article link was to show how any chronic pain condition, when combined with depression, can lead to suicidal thoughts and indeed, suicide. This is the worst possible outcome for CPPS, and we all need to be alert to the dangers of depression, both in ourselves and other members of the forum.

That's one of the reasons I like amitriptyline (Elavil) as a treatment for our group, since it's an old fashioned but still highly effective antidepressant, as well as a lot of other things.

I agree. This is a testament to the fact that with any chronic condition depression can kick in. When this happens many men may see no way out except death and kill themselves after a while when, sadly, it is often the case that chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome gets better with time and can largely or completely fade out after a few years.

That's why boards like this and books like Aronson's are important: They show that there is light at the end of the tunnel and sometimes you just have to grit your teeth and hang on. I remember about four months into my condition when I still didn't really know what the hell was going on (this was before my diagnosis of functional obstruction) lying in the bath and thinking it would be easier just to slip under the water and ease out of life. I'm glad I didn't.

I remember the worst days when my symptoms first showed. My life went into the dump so fast and hard that very bad thought went through my mind. Although the internet helped, especially this website, some of the awful stories that I read on IC site did the opposite.

Many people around me know about the problem yet few know how bad it got for a brief time a month into my chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome onset...

Oh good news, I just started doing weight training again, nothing like Scobbysnack level, just 10-20 minutes every other day but it sure feels great.
Age: 38 Onset: April 2006 Current | Symptoms: Update, doctor found no hemorroid but pruritus ani. Was doing very good for a while but lately are having more flares. | Symptoms: raw, irrated feeling, spams in balls and bladder area. Drugs: Omega 3 oil only and just started Prosta-Q in Feb 2008, currently not taking Prosta-Q. Treatment: relaxation, AHIP stretches, the book EVERYDAY ZEN, Worsened by: Coffee (not 100% sure)

Very small tasks seem monumental when the chronic pain won't go away. Guys need to hear that it will get better from those of you who are doing better than you were in the past. When I suffered from chronic prostatitis / chronic pelvic pain syndrome the first time I recall the first couple of years being the worst. Then for many years, it cycled from bad to not so bad. I guess, over time, the bad spells did not last as long, and the not so bad spells got longer. Then - four years with no pain. Now its back, and I'm really having a hard time convincing myself that it will get better again. Thanks to those of you who offer encouraging words - they are needed.
Age: 43 Onset Age: 27 Symptoms: significant perineum pain, soreness & burning in pelvic area, shivers. Helped By: Internal PT & stretching Worsened By: overfull bladder.
