He said my pee hole is too small and its causing prostatitis

Skip to "So here is the research" if you are not interested in background and want me to quickly get to the point. I know how that feels.

Setting the Stage
I have been on a rollecoster the last 6 months or so. I know most won't know my background but I have been through the regular guantlet of doctors: The antibiotics, alpha blockers, a bunch of other mystery pills, the PT, a kegal regimin, I saw a PT for over 6 months, and in total about 8 different doctors. I have been at it since 2002. So here is the story and dont be so quick to throw this into the success stories just yet:

I have been taking valium to sleep at night when things are not going well. I take about 15 5mgs a month for this purpose, otherwise things get out of control and I miss work the next day.

So the Stage is Set
Recently some new stresses caused me to take a lot more than that. I ran out before I could get some more. So I had a nervous breakdown and ofcourse that didn't make things any better. My whole body is spasming but only painful in the pelvic area. It is just anxiety going crazy cause I realize I am going to have to tell my boss what is wrong with me. I shoot him an email and go to try to bum some drugs off some relatives, this is about 6am cause I can't sleep and pain is worst I can remember. I end up going to urgent care to have something to show my boss. They find blood and white blood cells in my urine, and I start crying like a little school girl immediately. The guy is shocked, from my reaction you would think he just told me I was HIV positive. He starts saying well it is only traces and may not mean anything. The guy really doesnt understand why I am so upset and gets me an appointment with a urologist the same day. I was 110% sure my urine would be clean. This to me means I am never getting better and I am back to square one.

The urologist gets my background, and he is a partner of a guy I have seen the most. He first looks at my pee-hole, then the rectal exam. Then he says he found nothing in my urine but does know the cause of all my problems. He said I have a urethra opening of an 8 year old and its causing internal pressure and strain which leads to prostatitis. I am thinking well how big of an 8 year old are we talking about cause this is not going to help me with the ladies. He said he is sure I need surgery and it should fix my problem. I was skeptical ofcourse and left the office that way. The guy was really nice and gave me more pain meds and valium so I dont miss anymore work in the mean time. I told him I will do my research and let him know in 6 weeks when my insurrance changes.

So here is the Research
As it turns out this is a cause of prostatitis and I never would have thought it was mine because so many doctors have looked at my penis, they never really looked at the pee-hole diameter. I havnt had much of a problem urinating, but now that I see the symptoms online, I have had some of them. The doc says even though I dont feel I have problems with urinating, small pressure difference causes the symptoms I am experiencing.

I dont need to feel insecure about having a small pee opening. It is a complication that happens in circumcision:

Conclusion
I plan to see another doctor or two to confirm that my pee-hole is really small, then I will have it done. I expect the recovery for all my symptoms will take about a year (the doctor didn't say), but will be noticable every step of the way. I think it is muscle pain I have been feeling and all the things I have been doing on this site will help the healing process.

I am pretty happy to tackle this from a different angle. I am optimistic, but not to hopeful. Any thoughts or comments?

I have had a cystoscopy before. It was my impression that this was not what the doctor was talking about. I told him I had already been scoped by his partner. They didn't find anything, but did comment on the urethra opening. This doctor mentioned cutting the opening and sowing it back up. He said it was about half the normal size. I think he was talking about this.

There is a topic on self dilation there, I may look into that later.

I would have never thought this cause I dont rank high on the BHP think or didn't think I had much a problem urinating. I do get up once a night like clock work to pee now and I didn't before, other than that I dont see any urinary symptoms. I have a odd little symptom, sometimes the opening to my urethra burns after ejaculation. I always thought it was due to lubricant getting in there (which is water based used for sex). This would explain that if it is the case. I told the doc that my internal pain is about 7" up and I saw a chart where it looks like that is near the bladder. So does all this sound right? I would be real happy if I could just get a snip and I have my life back.

As someone who's had surgery I can say that it has improved my symptoms a lot, however it hasn't resolved them. For example, I now pee properly for the first time in... well... ever but there's still a lot of irritation to deal with. That said, it's been getting better as time goes by.

I think that if I hadn't had the obstruction removed I would never have got any better but you must be prepared for a slow healing process afterwards especially if this has been a lifetime condition. Read havefaith's success story for more details of post surgical recovery.

One word of warning though: I wouldn't recommend surgery on visual evidence alone - you should undertake a videourodynamic study to get a firm diagnosis.

thanks for your reply. I did a google on the study and I am a bit confused. Why should I get that, what will it tell me? The doc is basing all this off of visual examination of the tip of my penis. I asked him if there is anyway we can tell if this surgery will fix my problems without actually getting it done. He didn't act like there was.

I been having this problem for 5 years. So it is not life long, but I still would like a refund on those years. I dont expect a speedy recovery. If it is the cause of my problems I expect I won't be 100% for a year or so. If I feel steady progress month to month, thats all I ever hoped for.

I read the post about your surgery. I feel better that my problem is just at the tip supposedly, so I feel the surgery is not as complicated. I am glad to hear you are doing better.
