Do bowel movements affect prostatitis?

Post by faceinthecrowd »

When I eat certain foods, I feel horribly gassy and bloated. I have noticed that with this feeling comes more tension, more pressure in the genital region. Usually however, when I have a bowel movement, I feel relief from this pressure. Also, it seems that when I have this bloated, gassy feeling, my urine stream becomes weaker. I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this, and if there's any medical basis for what I've observed. Maybe the problems in the gastro-intestinal areas somehow exert pressure on the bladder? I'm honestly not familiar enough with the anatomy to say what might be going on, but I'd appreciate any thoughts. Thanks.

I experience similar (bloating etc). Bowel movements also mess around with my urination too. I guess the muscles are all interconnected.

These are typical symptoms of food intolerance and/or allergy. I have managed to control these symptoms with Allegra and Zantac.
Good News! The great ProstaQ is BACK at last! You must try it.

I've kind of been blaming it on Elavil making my bowel sluggish...

Richard, I'm pretty sure one of the side effects of Elavil is that it somewhat dehydrates the intestinal tract. I've found that taking the stool softener 'lactulose solution' along with drinking plenty of fluids markedly helps this. You can get it over the counter at any pharmacy.

Age:39. Age at onset:31. Symptoms prior to treatment: Golf ball in rectum, severe urinary frequency (2-3x/hr; 5-10x/night); weak stream; painful ejaculation; coccygeal pain; tip of penis pain; general pelvic pain on left; testicular pain; supra-pubic pain. Current | Symptoms: Urinary frequency 1x every 2-3 hrs and 1-2 x a night; mild pelvic pain on left hand side (all symptoms still improving!)
Helped by: Trigger point release; avoiding exercise; pelvic floor relaxation; Neurontin decreased bladder sensitivity somewhat. Worsened by: Exercise; frequent ejaculation; ibuprofen irritates bladder. Made no difference: Diet; biofeedback; quercetin; Steroid anti-inflammatories; Elavil.

Hi Al. Hope you had a good holiday :-D

Absolutely - I know Elavil is an anticholinergic, but I think I read somewhere that quite apart from dehydrating stools it also has a tensing action on the bowel mechanism. I could be wrong.

I already take Fybogel for this. Is Lactolose better?

Also looking at Zispin as an alternative to Elavil.

I've noticed some sort of tie-in with bowel movements as well.

It does seem to have the effect of relaxing the entire area which in turn temporarily eases other symptoms.

I do find more discomfort when my bowels are full. Before going to the doctor, I was not sure if the problem was my Prostate, or my rectal/colon area.
I find I have a great deal more flatulence now, than before. Is this common?

IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) is very common with CPPS.

I never knew that, thanks Richard. This could explain why I am still having some minor problems in that area, even after getting myofascial release.

Sorry - I don't know. Lactulose just worked for me so I stuck with it.
