After trying celebrex for pain with no relief I asked my gp form something to suppress the pain as no anti-inflamms have helped. I am now on solpadol which in the U.S is under the brand name Kapake I think 500mg paracetamol-30mg codeine!
Now I know its not great to be on opioids but when the pains bad any side effect is a small order compared to CP pain.
I have felt a great decrease in pain about 40 mins after taking and a bit of a high feeling also (which I swear I won't get addicted to as these tablets are only coming out when I really need them).
The downside could be constipation anybody else on an opioid have any tips to counter act this naturally

Age:33 | Onset Age:19 | Symptoms:burning urethra, deep sore stinging around the perineum, dribbling | Helped By:when flare starts deep relaxing over a toilet to let out dribbling urine, hot bath, rubbing a heat cream on the perineum, Tens with a pad on the perineum, running, medication (solpadol) for pain. Current treatment: PT. | Worsened By:sitting, stressing over it, ejaculation, sometimes alcohol but I risk it. Been feeling a lot better last 6 months about 85% with a few flares lasting about 5 days. No longer having PT. Stretching every other night and I believe time is also a big factor for me
I can't take ibuprofen, aspirin, etc because of colitis, so I'm on opiods too, unfortunately.
It's hard to compare drugs, but I take 2 vicodin at a time with a total of 10mg of codeine. 30mg sounds huge. I don't get any sort of high from 10, just pain relief, and sometimes not enough. It's just my personal opinion that if I take enough to feel a high, I am vastly increasing my danger of tolerance and addiction. Nobody takes this stuff thinking they will get addicted, but it still happens.
Constipation is practically my specialty.
-drink lots water, eat lots of fresh produce for fiber
-dried prunes
-sugars help, but at a cost to health
-fiber supplements, psyllium husk
-magnesium supplements, at least 500mg/day, good for muscles too
-milk of magnesia when the above don't work
-cascara sagrada is an herbal treatment
-over the counter products made with docusate for stool softening
-over the counter products made with polyethylene glycol
That's a comprehensive article on pain, thanks.
I am not a doctor too!
Age 64, sudden onset 5/06 during bout of flu, colitis, lung and liver problems. Pain in penis, then moved to rectum. No urinary symptoms. Use Lyrica, Elavil, paxil, Xanax, morphine, vicodin, relaxation, pads for sitting, 100+ PT sessions. Sensitive to gluten, milk protein, soy. I have CFS, anxiety, GERD, Barrett's, colitis, kidney stones, one of which referred pain to penis.
Over here in the uk you can actually but codeine over the counter with 12mg per tablet.
People who use opioids for chronic pain and get pain relief are very unlikely to become addicted according to that article.
In fact Codeine is the weakest Opioid but if your pain needs dulling more it may be worth having a higher dose 30mg is for severe pain 10mg for moderate

A high fiber diet with lots of water or non-diuretic liquids is the best way I have found to curb constipation for me but I had received stomach problems (ulcers and reflux) from taking non-steroidal anti-inflammatories and if you found similar problems stay away from calcium based antacids.
Vicodin is Hydromorphone a man made morphine which is at least 7 times stronger than codeine so 2 tables equal 116% of 2 tablets with 30mgs of codeine. You are right about addiction risk being low but if you have an addictive personality you will be chasing the high not just pain relief. Remember long time use of opioids can cause physical dependency but codeine is one of the lower risk ones. By keeping your dose to just what you need for the pain it shouldn't be any problem, but if you do not take enough and soon enough you can run into problem of having to take much more pain relievers because you are just chasing the pain and not treating it properly. I speak for experience as they under treated my pain leading me to take a much larger amount of pain relievers to receive relief after 2 years of under treating my pain and my own fear of addiction at first when I was offered enough but I still just chased the pain. I hope you find a treatment or program that works well for you both and use of narcotic pain relievers is just for a short time for you both.
