Is CPPS progressive

Post by calguy »

Is this thing progressive? If I start treatments and get ahandle on this now I this all I can expect?
Age 32, onset 32 Onset Aug 07- frequency was main problem in the beginning-really bad. Now 1 to 2x per night when frequency flairs up. Sore and tight lower abdominal muscles. Occasional burning after bowel movement and full feeling. What helps: Healthy diet(this is huge for me) Started drinking super greens supplament and almost going totally vegetarian to get body more alkaline, starting Prosta-Q, quercetin/zinc tablet in morning helped frequency problem I believe. Massaging abs and doing stretches helps calm down frequency when it is acting up. Wine or vodka after long day. Flexeral and melatonin at night. Swimming and light weights. .5 of Elavil every other day helps with frequency and healing process. Trying to stay positive and not stressing over this!

Big question to ask! To many variables involved to get a clear cut answer. Trial and error and gleaning wisdom from this website is a good place to start.

age: 38 symptoms(started in 2002-finished 2005): continual pain in prostate and surrounding area, increase of pain with sexual activity and stress: what helps? Time, natural supplements and change of diet/lifestyle. At present 100% symptom free

Did yours come on all at once or did it get worse until it got better?

When you say is that all I can expect, what symptoms are you having and how bad?

For me it started with frequent urination, then burning pain in prostate, followed by pain in rectum. Now its eased off, still get the frequent urination, sometimes get slight penile pain and aching in testicles, but its no where near the stage where I have taken pain killers. I have definately noticed a link between my moods and this thing. If I have a down day, or stressed/anxious day then I know that in a day or two the symptoms will come back.

Like you I am hoping this thing won't get any worse. I'm not taking any medication for it, just swimming more, relaxing in sauna etc. and trying my best not to think about it. Given all the symptoms, the frequent urination and lack of libido sometimes is the worst for me, though this is no where near as bad as it was when this thing flared up in the very beginning which was back in March 2007.
Age: 33 | Onset Age: 32 Initial Symptoms: Frequent urination Current Symptoms: The odd feeling of frequency but not much else Helped By: Not thinking about it, hot bath, red wine, light exercise, Bowen technique seems to help, getting on with my life Worsened By: catastrophic thinking, worrying things will get worse, feeling depressed, reading websites too often! Work! Sitting in work all day isn't good!! Current Progress : Since 1st Sept 08, no pain!!! :)

From what I've read here it seems to get better over a number of years (2 to 4 seems to be the figure quoted a lot) although it can get worse before it begins to tail off.

Of course, you can take action to control things and put it into remission as indicated on this board.

My Uro Says..

Post by mach5 »

I know listening to a uro is not a popular thing but...

For all of the cases he saw, he say...

1/2 get better and 1/2 get worse. Sometimes it just goes away for some people, but for others it just progresses.

I've met people who have had this for over 20 years. They were in pretty rough shape. From what I have heard and seen, treating it the sooner, the bettter.

Just my 2 cents

This is an impossible question to answer with any scientific verification because every Man is different and symptoms are different for all Men.

First and most importantly you have to have the mind set that you will recover and take charge of this condition which is fuelled by your thoughts any way.

That's why I find it so ironic that old school uros would say it's all in your head. They were right after all.

I would think if you jump on any ailment early, you increase your chances for recovery over a shorter period of time. If you wait and have a late start it will get worse and take longer to heal and recover. Nonetheless if you are proactive you will get better over time.

I encourage anxiety prone UCPPS people to consider L-Theanine
Age, 44 onset age 37 Feb 2006 Freq. need to urinate. Sensation of having to urinate soon after going. Perineum discomfort/burning/tightness, pubic area discomfort @ times, poor urine stream, post urine dripping/spray. All symptoms have improved with my protocol. At the worst I give it a 1 to 2 on irritation and discomfort and frequency. Helps: Elavil 5mg for anxiety and mast cell protection, (will only take it as needed) self internal PT as needed, stretching, walking, stairmaster cardio workout and light weights, reducing stress, moment to moment relaxation, deep breathing relaxation and using a Theracane. Makes worse: sitting for long periods, stress, over focusing on it. Currently 95%-98% recovered. Stay positive, relaxed and control your anxiety.

That doesn't seem to tie in with published research.

any have bladde discomfort

Post by calguy »

I have some bladder discomfort and frequent urination on and off, slight discomfort in testicles. Also a feverish feeling sometimes which I think is caused by anxiety or thinking about it too much. I am now worried that I may have IC because of the bladder discomfort??? Dont know which poison I would rather have.lol

Bunk

Post by mach5 »

My experience with the research I've read is its bunk. This was just one uros personal experience, which I thought I would pass on. If you have research you could link to, that would be nice too.

I'm sure I have read this somewhere as well when researching this condition in the past.... will try and dig it up.

For me, it has definitely gotten better over time and I am not even taking any medications currently. There were times my first year when I could not even sit through a movie without ending up in excruciating pain. Today, I planning a trip to Europe in the spring of 2008.

Overall, I probably have a 70% to 85% reduction in symptoms. I still have my flare ups now and then, but they tend to last a day or two as opposed to 2 or 3 weeks during the first year. I am confident that if I practice some relaxation techniques and make other lifstyle improvements, I could probably get up in the over 90% range as far as reduction in symptoms.

What I'm asking myself is what they understand by 1/2 gets worse.
Worse to what extent? Worse if you don't take action to address this condition? Worse no matter what? Seems very vague...
Age: 38 | Onset Age: 27 | Symptoms: scrotal pain, perineal pain, pubic pain, lower abdominal pain, sometimes urgency, | Helped By: sometimes excercising | Worsened By: found no real triggers

I suppose if intially all you get is frequent urination, then 6 months later you get extreme pain down below, then this could be classed as worse?

Technically that's correct but if you follow this route you're going to end up bedridden and disabled because "it gets worse".
Not very encouraging and realistic so it seems.

Unless what they mean is you get some initial minor complaints and if you leave those unattended it can evolve into full-blown CPPS. So anyone who comes up with a theory like that should be more specific.
