Sister has IC for and i have CP wonder what the odds are on

Post by graeme »

I wonder if its in our Genes and worry about my little son getting this
Age:33 | Onset Age:19 | Symptoms:burning urethra, deep sore stinging around the perineum, dribbling | Helped By:when flare starts deep relaxing over a toilet to let out dribbling urine, hot bath, rubbing a heat cream on the perineum, Tens with a pad on the perineum, running, medication (solpadol) for pain. Current treatment: PT. | Worsened By:sitting, stressing over it, ejaculation, sometimes alcohol but I risk it. Been feeling a lot better last 6 months about 85% with a few flares lasting about 5 days. No longer having PT. Stretching every other night and I believe time is also a big factor for me

You should contact Dr Jorda Dimitrakov; this is his area of specialty (genes and IC/CPPS)

Genetic link

Post by graeme »

Thanks I have sent him an email!

In my eyes there must be a genetic link also found out my other sister whop is older had chronic cystitis when she was 3 and had holes in her bladder wall and was on antibiotics for 12 moths to clear it !

3 of us all with probs down there my uro says coincidence I'm not so sure I wonder if there are lots of cases like this where it is passed on genetically no way of knowing unless we can all see our family medical records for the last 200 years !

Dr Jordan Dimitrakov wrote:Dear Mr. Stinson,

Thanks for your message and sorry to hear about your problems. Unfortunately, the knowledge about the genetic basis of interstitial cystitis can chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS) is just emerging. I am leading a group which is conducting a study of families with chronic pelvic pain (both IC and CP/CPPS). In our series, the condition appears to run in families in an autosomal dominant fashion and is quite common. Exact numbers are difficult to come up with, mainly because of differences in the definition of the disease (some people consider both pain AND voiding symptoms to be necessary for the diagnosis while others consider only pain as a required symptom) and a number of other epidemiologic details which we are trying to establish. I will be happy to send you a copy of our articles on the genetic basis of IC and CP/CPPS.

We would be happy if you and your sister would consider joining our study. You can read further details in the announcement I have attached to this message as well as on the following website:

http://www.cliniclatrials.gov

And enter “dimitrakov” as the search term or “chronic pelvic pain syndrome”

If you would like to discuss further details about the study or have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact me!

Sincerely,
JD

can't get the lnk to work but he has sent me an Attachment :-D

Great to see research going on, many diseases are genetic but due to years of ignoring this disease it has never been an issue
